Avatar m tn I have been taking a baby aspirin for some years and subsequently had a stroke/ruptured aneurysm and TIA recently. The doctor prescribed Aggrenox and I take it twice a day.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
1013028 tn?1250923267 Aggrenox (aspirin/extended-release dipyridamole) is indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have had transient ischemia of the brain or completed ischemic stroke due to thrombosis. Though the drugs of choice for a lupus anticoagulant are heparin and warfarin (coumadin), Plavix may be administered additionally to prevent arterial thrombotic episodes. Aggrenox has the same action as Coumadin.
Avatar f tn by Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist who experienced a stroke and documented the experience and her 8-year recovery in detail. My mother recently had a major stroke and my family has just started the book. We've already come across many passages that describe emotions and reactions our mom is having to a tee. You can see a video of Dr. Taylor talking about her experience and her book here: http://www.****.
Avatar m tn - Should this isotope testing be done after catheterization? What new infromation could be gained from that? - Since adenosine or dobutamine be used as stimulants, what kind of danger could it be? I read some articles on PubMed saying that adenosine/dobutamine can cause things from AV block to ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome. Sorry about your husband's stroke! Is he in the hospital? What would be helpful is if you knew if he had an ischemic stroke (from a blood clot) or a hemorrhagic stroke (caused by a burst or torn blood vessel). If you aren't sure which, this is a good question for his doctor. When weakness is on the right side of the body, that means the stroke occurred on the left side of the brain.
Avatar f tn Persantine is dipyridamole, but you will have to get extended release tablets as the two asprin and dipyridamole should not be taken together. Don’t change the medications without discussing with your doctor. So, consult him and then decide. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Rapid assessment of acute ischemia is critical for the management of acute stroke patiens who may benefit from thrombolytics or neuroprotective therapeutics. Differentiation of acute from chronic stroke, which may all appear hyperintense on T2- Weighted Imaging(T2WI ), is essential in determining the management of patiens.
Avatar m tn What is nonreversible apical inferior wall and what does it mean when they say no dipyridamole-induced reversible ischemia .there is mild defect in the apical inferior wall that is not reversible at rest.
Avatar n tn I had made an appointment the day before for my ENT, however upon awakening in the early morning hours, fear set in along with panic. I wanted reassurance that would allow me to be relieved enough to wait and follow through with the appointment. To no avail did I do so. Cat blood work and scan confirmed the existence of bacteria. White blood cells battling the red. Again thank you. FYI, ice on the area kept me from needing to consume narcotics.
Avatar n tn After the bleed was found, the blood thinner was halted 3 days post-stroke. He has been in acute rehab for about a week, became dehydrated, and now has developed clots in his legs. His legs are very swollen.
Avatar f tn If there was evidence of an acute stroke on the MRI, investigation for causes of stroke in a young person (of which there are many many causes including blood clots from various areas of the body including heart and legs, various clotting tendencies including the clotting tendency that occurs in all women around pregnancy but also other hereditary or non-hereditary clotting disorders, and some genetic disorders such as CADASIL and mitochondrial disorders).
Avatar n tn Mu primary physician told me the same thing which will help me in guiding my friend in her discussion with her cardiologist.
Avatar n tn I am a survivor of massive hemorrhagic stroke in 2005. There is considerable cross-over in the symptomology between TBI and Stroke. There are two main types of Aphasia: Receptive and Expressive. Receptive Aphasia is indicated by garbled in-coming messages (verbal, written, vision, tactile) that the victim receives. Expressive Aphasia affects speech, writing, etc. This is perhaps more well-known, obvious, alarming and dramatic.
Avatar m tn To confirm the diagnosis, it is necessary to perform magnetic resonance angiography in the acute stage of stroke to search for intracranial stenosis, the authors say. Thereafter, control vascular imaging is important to evaluate the reversibility of vascular abnormalities. However, when there is a doubt between stenosis and arterial artifacts, conventional angiography with 3-dimensional reconstructed images is needed to confirm diagnosis of stenosis, they add. Avatar n tn My husband had an stroke 6 years ago in his thalamus which caused him to be confused, short term memory loss, some long term memory loss, etc. The good news is that he regained almost all of his functioning, but some small short term memory issues. 3 weeks ago he worked in the yard in 100 degree temps for several hours. The next day he woke up with the same symptoms as the stroke 6 years ago and we assumed he had another stroke.
Avatar m tn Will the medicines controlling the heart rate not lower down the blood pressure, resulting in worsening of stroke? In these subset of patients(acute ischemic stroke & atrial fibrillation), what is the role of anticoagulation?
Avatar f tn anyways my question is about acute relapses i awoke at approx.
Avatar m tn My 83 year old mother-in-law had a mild stroke last Sunday (3/13/16). It was discovered her left cardioid artery is 70% blocked and the right side, which is the side of the stroke is 50% blocked. The doctors are recommending surgery on the right side first, since that is the side of the stroke. She was moved to acute rehab first to get stronger and to give a diagnosed UTI time to clear up. Is there a time frame for the most success for both cardioid surgeries.
Avatar f tn I was curious if the standard, acute treatment for a hemorrhagic stroke included an emergency vent shunt. My sixty one year old father suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke 10 months ago. He received a CT scan upon arrival at the emergency room where they determined he had a hemorrhagic stroke. At that point he was considered a 3 on the Glasgow coma scale.
Avatar f tn This began in November whilst at work, stressful morning sudden left arm pain high blood pressure, I thought heart attack ECG normal, hospital thought stroke pain in leg and arm side of face fluctuating sensations memory problems. CT scan Heart scan Mri scan head normal. Off about five months simptoms seemed to improve although still weakness left side loss of feeling in parts of body.
Avatar n tn Hi, Chronic migraine and headaches can cause hyperintensities in the brain. The possibility of stroke is also very much there since he is suffering from tingling numbness. It is difficult to comment without a good clinical exam and complete medical history. I would suggest you to seek consultation with a neurologist for your father. Let us know if you have more questions.
Avatar f tn Don't have personal experience or know any neuros in Boston, but I can tell you a couple things that may or may not be involved in this situation. Sometimes older ladies can have osteoporosis, which is a weakening of the structure of bone, and that may have been why her femur disintegrated. Now, sometimes if a big bone breaks, if it damages a nearby artery, why, that can cause issues with how much blood and thus oxygen is getting to the brain.
Avatar f tn Furthermore, psychotic episodes may be an acute change like that seen in delirium, stroke, or seizure. Depending on the complete history, including family history, associated symptoms, and clinical examination, imaging findings will likely be in different anatomical locations. As a general rule, MRI is better for looking at anatomy and for pathological conditions (e.g.
