Avatar f tn Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
612551 tn?1450022175 s Physician Assistant (PA) concerning my change about 3 weeks ago from 100 (or more) Metoprolol a day to taking 50 mg Metoprolol and 240 mg Diltiazem XR (Diltia XT) a day. The former is Beta Blocker (BB) and the latter a Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB). Both are long/extended/slow (whatever) release and are often prescribed for taking once every 24 hours.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have not heard back from my doctor (or his staff) yet so it seems they are not too worried about it. But then I am now on Medicare and not a big profit patient. From what I've learned here the swelling may be mostly cosmetic, it doesn't bother me, and if it were winter and I was wearing long trousers I might not even notice. I think I'll ask for a lower dose on my upcoming prescription refill and see if I can have the benefits without the swelling.
177337 tn?1310059899 I started having PVC's in January. Have always had PAC's. My cardiologist put me on metoprolol 12.5 mg 2 times a day. I had taken it before for some near fainting spells and didn't like it because it made me feel so tired. So now he's put me cardizem..but said take it every day. No taking it as needed. So after my workout today my PVC's got worse. So I took the cardizem about an hour ago. Nothing yet. Still having some chest pressure and the PVC's haven't changed.
Avatar m tn I can usually control my PACs/PVCs through diet but when I stray and they flare up, calcium channel blockers (diltiazem) work like a charm. It makes them completely go away until it wears off which is about 24 hours (extended release 240), Just curious if anyone knows why doctors do not prescribe these to more patients for PAC/PVC because they seem to work.
Avatar n tn Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me. Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well. My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.
Avatar n tn I have times where this last for months every day and It’s like sitting back waiting for the big on to happen because my doctor told me there were only 3 meds to take for this condition first was verelin pm and xanax I also carry nitro. Now I’m on diltizem cd 240 mg once at night and xanax .5 every 8 hours and it still doesn’t help some days are so bad for me and others I can just deal with. Please someone just let me know that there is something that can be done for this.
Avatar m tn Hi.... I am a 30 y/o female who was dx with psvt in july 2010. My svt was seen on a 48 hr event monitor and I had rates of 188 from simple activity such as climbing my steps. My EP/Cardio attempted an ablation on 7/15/10. They weren't able to sustain the svt long enough to ablate and discovered that my accesorry pathway is up against my SA node so I run the risk of needing a pacemaker if the svt is ablated.
Avatar m tn t take care of the high HR. I take both Metoprolol and Diltiazem, 50 mg and 240 mg respectively. They seem to work well together. Maybe you can take a lower dose of Metoprolol along with the Diltiazem, perhaps at a higher dose. Your post implies you nightmares are gone now that you are off of the BB... the CCB may also have that side effect.
Avatar m tn I had a nuclear medicine perfusion test and it showd my LVEF to be 46% but my echocardiogram showd it to be 60%. A the test time I was on 240 mg diltiazem and 40 mg Lisinopril daily. I do have a history of bad hypertension. I do suffer from occasional PVC and PAC's. Any opinion? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have been receiving treatment for arrhythmia from the VA for about 10 years now (1999). I have had the shocks, the medication Amiodarone and now a pace maker. I take 240 MG's of Diltiazem twice a day, 100 MG of Metoprolol twice a day and one table (.125) of Digoxin a day. My last visit to the Pace Maker clinic showed that in the past 90 days it had recorded 887 instances of my heart rate going over 160 bpm's.
Avatar n tn I have been on xanax xr 1 mg. my doc wants to wean me off now, its been about a year. xanax xr doesnt come in .75 so he wants to start me on xanax xr .50. Is this to fast to come off of it? Has anyone here ever weaned off of the xr before?
Avatar f tn How many people out there have had rapid atrial fib? By rapid, I mean at least 240 bpm? I will see my EP in a couple of monthes, and I'm compiling some questions! I don't seem to read alot about rapid A-Fib, only cases of tachycardia in the class of SVT, for example. Thanks!

Avatar n tn Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
Avatar n tn No significant changes were observed in any of the values in patients taking either diltiazem hydrochloride (180 mg/day) or beta-blockers (15 mg of pindolol or 60 mg of propranolol daily). The decrease in HDL-cholesterol levels and increase in triglyceride levels reported in 1978 to be associated with use of propranolol, and with the concomitant use of hydrochlorothiazide and propranolol, was not found.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn My husband has been addicted to Vicodin for many years, switching to Oxycontin a few years ago. He has been trying to cut back for years but is still taking 240 mg a day minimum. What is the likelyhood that he can actually cut back slowly. He doesn't have any will power that I can see.
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
672586 tn?1280933658 At my request, my family physician has agreed to change my medication from daily metoprolol extended release 100 mg to daily diltiazem 120 mg. Can I simply switch without fear of withdrawal symptoms from the metoprolol? His instructions were to stop taking the metoprolol when I start the new diltiazem. I was not aware that I might face withdrawal from metoprolol.
394017 tn?1255014532 do weight lifting at least once a week. I am now on Diltiazem 240 mg. The internist increased it from 120 mg, when I was having spikes of 140/90 with BP. It appears that the higher dosage is now controlling the BP (this morning it was 110/69) but not necessarily the pulse rate (was up to 99 yesterday afternoon). I am on a 30 day cardiac monitor that was started on 1/23/08. I had one ''event" of pulse of 120 that went back to high 90's after an hour.
1689583 tn?1387752394 It depends on what medication you're taking. I take diltiazem, although I take it for esophageal spasm. I don't have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar m tn The paramedics gave it to me twice (I believe 6 mg each time) and the Emergency Room doctor gave it to me two more times (I believe 6 mg and then 12 mg) -- a total of four times during one episode. Adenosine stopped my heart briefly, except for a little blip, but the rapid heart beat immediately returned. Others praise adenosine; it did no good at all for me. I am now taking Diltiazem (120 mg), and I don't think it is working.
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.
