177337 tn?1310059899 I started having PVC's in January. Have always had PAC's. My cardiologist put me on metoprolol 12.5 mg 2 times a day. I had taken it before for some near fainting spells and didn't like it because it made me feel so tired. So now he's put me cardizem..but said take it every day. No taking it as needed. So after my workout today my PVC's got worse. So I took the cardizem about an hour ago. Nothing yet. Still having some chest pressure and the PVC's haven't changed.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.

Avatar m tn I just checked my prescription bottle and see the calcium channel blocker is Diltiazem 120 mg twice a day. This is a generic medication for the drug you mention, I believe. It is normal release, so I take it every 12 hours. I do believe the slow release isn't available in generic.
Avatar n tn I went to a new cardiologist today who suggested I switch to a calcium channel blocker, diltiazem, 120 mg. He said I will not have to taper the beta blocker first, just switch them out. I know he's the Dr, but he's new to me. I'm worried about just stopping one and starting another like this. Any advice from folks who've maybe made this switch before? Anyone done it without a taper?
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.
Cat Abt 2 months ago cardio doc increased diltiazem to 240mg ER from 120 mg,(for irregular heartbeat) added xarelto 15mg as I had an episode of heart arrythmmia and palpitations. I am also on pravastatin 20 mg. I find diltiazem/xarelto interaction in only one place. Abt 10 days ago, started having diarrhea or several loose bm's per day. If this continues should I call the cardio doc re this problem or go see gastro doc?. I have had pancreatitis in past so have a gastro doc.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have not heard back from my doctor (or his staff) yet so it seems they are not too worried about it. But then I am now on Medicare and not a big profit patient. From what I've learned here the swelling may be mostly cosmetic, it doesn't bother me, and if it were winter and I was wearing long trousers I might not even notice. I think I'll ask for a lower dose on my upcoming prescription refill and see if I can have the benefits without the swelling.
Avatar n tn Two weeks ago my doctor started me on Diltiazem 120 mg for racing heart. A cardiologist is doing some tests day after tomorrow. I have developed a severe rash that has now reached all of my body and itches like crazy. I am treating it with Benedry capsules and Caladryl lotion. Only tonight discovered it is a side effect of the prescription. Tomorrow I will not take the Diltiazem but meanwhile what should I do?
672586 tn?1280933658 At my request, my family physician has agreed to change my medication from daily metoprolol extended release 100 mg to daily diltiazem 120 mg. Can I simply switch without fear of withdrawal symptoms from the metoprolol? His instructions were to stop taking the metoprolol when I start the new diltiazem. I was not aware that I might face withdrawal from metoprolol.
612551 tn?1450022175 s Physician Assistant (PA) concerning my change about 3 weeks ago from 100 (or more) Metoprolol a day to taking 50 mg Metoprolol and 240 mg Diltiazem XR (Diltia XT) a day. The former is Beta Blocker (BB) and the latter a Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB). Both are long/extended/slow (whatever) release and are often prescribed for taking once every 24 hours.
671269 tn?1227747264 I have a few issues, some of which are- depression hypothyroid ADHD Desperately in search of reliable information on how to broaden my blood tests and include any other tests that would explain my resistance to Cytomel. Am currently trying 150 mcg because 100 isn't cutting it depression, weight and concentration wise. I'd like to know exactly what endocrine systems of mine are failing me and get balanced somehow.
Avatar f tn I have been on Effexor XR at 225mg. for one year and the doctor is switching me to Cymbalta. He told me that the standard dose of Cymbalta is 60mg. I don't know how that measures up to Effexor XR. Do you think it will equal the 225 mg. dose? Sorry, I'm not being much help to you, just have the same problem. How did your doctor tell you to taper off Effexor XR? Thanks.
Avatar m tn This is very interesting, because after my cardioversion 3 weeks ago, I went back on my Norpace CR and was told to stay on the 50 mg. of Atenolol I was on previously. For the last week I have been having (some major) dizzy spells and a feeling of a pause. Also felt like I might faint, short of breath. This has happened sitting, standing and lying down and scared me. I have an appt. Thursday for a follow-up on the cardioversion, so maybe I can find out what's going on.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
Avatar m tn Hi.... I am a 30 y/o female who was dx with psvt in july 2010. My svt was seen on a 48 hr event monitor and I had rates of 188 from simple activity such as climbing my steps. My EP/Cardio attempted an ablation on 7/15/10. They weren't able to sustain the svt long enough to ablate and discovered that my accesorry pathway is up against my SA node so I run the risk of needing a pacemaker if the svt is ablated.
394017 tn?1255014532 do weight lifting at least once a week. I am now on Diltiazem 240 mg. The internist increased it from 120 mg, when I was having spikes of 140/90 with BP. It appears that the higher dosage is now controlling the BP (this morning it was 110/69) but not necessarily the pulse rate (was up to 99 yesterday afternoon). I am on a 30 day cardiac monitor that was started on 1/23/08. I had one ''event" of pulse of 120 that went back to high 90's after an hour.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, not overweight, not diabetic, I've been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication.
Avatar n tn I have been on xanax xr 1 mg. my doc wants to wean me off now, its been about a year. xanax xr doesnt come in .75 so he wants to start me on xanax xr .50. Is this to fast to come off of it? Has anyone here ever weaned off of the xr before?
Avatar n tn Ahh Pristiq, The new SSNRI. Actualy just a slight tweek on Effexor XR. Interesting fact about Pristiq..... Wyeth's newest Antidepressant medication Pristiq, is actually kind of a sister drug of Effexor XR. In fact in terms of the active ingrediants molecular structure they are about 98% the same. You know why the Drug Company Wyeth would produce a drug so much like Effexor XR?
397906 tn?1208241269 i have been taking xanax xr for 6 months now. originally i started of 2 mg daily, but after a few months i started to feel better so i gradually lowered my dose to .5mg and have been on this dose for 3 months now.Is it possible that xanax xr can cause PVCs?, i seen in your earlier posts that you say xanax xr builds up rapid tolerance?well i am concerned because of these skipped heart sensations that i have been getting, i also have mitral valve prolapse since i was 16(now 22).
Avatar m tn BP is relatively normal. I take indapmide for that (From my regular doctor). In fact when my cardilolgist put me on diltiazem, he took me off indapamide. That didn't last long. The diltiazem did nothing for my BP. It went back up (Only talking +/- 140/90), so let me add bavk the indapamide. So, that is not an issue. Just the MVP/ diltazem issue. The pulse can stay n the 60's for awhile. At most during the day, in the 80's. (Of course, that is only when the rythym is normal).
182884 tn?1259312906 Back in February I was put on Diltiazem 120 ER (extended release) and only had to take it once a day. Compared to the Verapamil (also a CCB) that I had to try years ago and I ended up in the ER, the Diltiazem was a dream to take. I had some fatigue, was a bit slow mentally. The hardest part was the nasty headaches I got during the first week or so. They would hit a couple hours after I took the pill then go away. I solved that problem by taking it at bedtime.
Avatar m tn s been some time since I last posted something. I was able to get the 120 mg of Adderall xr , and I was feeling better. I wanted to give Dexedrine a chance so as to take a break from Adderall, I was given Dexedrine spansules 90 mg. It is smoother compared to the Adderall, but it doesn't last long as the 120 of Adderall. Dexedrine did bring hope to me as in being another choice other than Adderall, but the 90 mg is not doing it.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I do not take Cardiazem (CCB?) I take a generic Diltiazem 120 mg (normal release, there is a more expensive slow release) twice a day. I think it has few if any side effects in me. It help me reduce the beta blocker dose even though it is a totally different type of drug, a CCB. The Atenelol does have side effects, or it is just my age that causes fatigue - and permanent rate-controlled AFib.
Avatar m tn m off to the electrophysiologist today and am hopeful that he will find a solution for these dreadful pvcs. I am taking 25 mg of metoprolol 2 x a day and 120 mg of cardizem once a day. I have been taking these for a month now and can't really tell a difference. They might have lessened the frequency some but they seem so "pronounced" now that my heart rate is slower. I also take 75 mg of effexor xr for the anxiety they are causing me. Has anyone had good luck with these meds?
