Diltiazem maximum dose

Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem maximum dose

tiazac

Avatar f tn I can't speak for the diltiazem, but the dose of Metoprolol is on the low end of the scale. I'm currently on 75mg, and had been as high as 200mg per day. The high end dosages are 400mg. This is not to that you could be adversely affected by your dose level. The best way to take care of your SVT is to eliminate rather than try to supress it. An electrophysiologist can eliminate for good with a cardiac ablation procedure. Have you considered this?
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, not overweight, not diabetic, I've been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication.
Avatar n tn I am on another brand/generic calcium channel blocker - Diz..don't recall, but I can check. I take what I think is the maximum does and had some of the symptoms you mention, but none real bad and my body has adjusted. Swelling of ankles was the the side-effect I most noticed, as did my wife. But it was not noticeable when dressed (a man) and I didn't have trouble putting on my shoes. I discussed with my cardiologist and he recommended I give it more time.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar n tn An overdose of diltiazem can be fatal, so if you are not sure if you missed a dose, to be safe, don't take any that day. I used to get a marker and put M T W T F S S above each pill in line (they were in the foil strips). That way I could see if I had taken that days medication.
1689583 tn?1387752394 It depends on what medication you're taking. I take diltiazem, although I take it for esophageal spasm. I don't have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar m tn Although I said not to tolerate Verapamil, a doctor gave me another calcium blocker, Diltiazem, when I had atrial fibrillation. When I came home, I had to decrease the daily dose to half and then stop using it totally. Diltiazem made me weak (possibly low BP or pulse) and the rhythm became very variable. Doctors should be careful when prescribing calcium channel blockers. By the way, my pulse pressure (in sinus rhythm) can vary between 14 and 130. What does this mean? Is this normal?
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar f tn i am 24 and am now on diltiazem lowest dose. i am very symptomatic to meds. i was on metoprolol and i had bad asthma with it. so recently i was switched. well i am a nursing student ready to graduate and am pretty fond of the heart and conduction, so i am affraid of things like clot formations and the fact that the medicine isnt stopping the flutters. if i up my dose i get very dizzy and feel like i have motion sickness like the floor is moving from under me. its really odd, anywho...
177337 tn?1310059899 I just got back from my internist. She is truly a wonderful compasionate doctor that really wants to help keep me as healthy as possible. Of course all my blood tests came back perfect except that I was low in Vitamin D. I was actualy hoping something was off so that I had a reason for the increase in these damn episodic pvc's that have been lasting for hours at a time. She wants me to try a channel blocker called diltiazem on an "as needed" basis.
Avatar m tn Referred to another doctor for cardioversion. He put me on diltiazem 180mg . I told him about the problems with tiazac. He told me the lower dose and because along with rythmol would be OK. Some symptoms returned but much less. Had cardioversion May 22, 2012. A-fib returned May 25 2012.Next time hope to be off diltizem. Also I think I will try magnesium (2 gm/day) . Any suggestions etc appreciated.
Avatar f tn Dose anyone have any thoughts of meds that are better alternatives to Verapamil? Is there another therapeutic drug with fewer side effects? My loved one is on two drugs, Crestor and Verapamil...but the fatigue is almost debillatating. Help....any thoughts. Any successes out there?
Avatar n tn I am a 64 yo runner (including marathons) who started noticing racing heart rates on occasion, even while sleeping. (I was using a heart rate monitor.) My max heart rate is 163 and resting heart rate is 38. Last week I went for a run and my heart rate went up to 260. Apparently it was already 130 before I started running So I went to the dr. yesterday and was prescribed Atenolol (25mg). Is that suitable for someone who already has such a low resting heart rate?
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.
Avatar m tn They seem to work well together. Maybe you can take a lower dose of Metoprolol along with the Diltiazem, perhaps at a higher dose. Your post implies you nightmares are gone now that you are off of the BB... the CCB may also have that side effect. What I am suggesting is talk with your doctor about taking a lower dose of BB along with your CCB, they act in different ways, so they do not compete, or conflict.
537843 tn?1213664232 So your TSH was maybe 70 or 80 before you started taking Levoxyl. Were you started on a high dose? How long have you been taking 200mcg? I have been there. I have had my TSH drop 40 points in a week after getting on the right dose of meds. But I went from post RAI no meds straight to 100mcg, which is what my body wanted. Within six weeks my TSH was between 1.0 and 2.0. That's why I said you may need a dosage increase.
Avatar f tn My bp immediately went up so he had me resume full dose and instead cut cardizem in half. That was about 4 days ago. It seemed to be working ok until last night. At 8:30 p.m. bp was 108/67. I woke up around 2 a.m. with a headache on back right side of head plus shoulder pain. I have fibromyalgia so assumed it was from that. By 4 a.m when I took my dog out I decided to check bp. It was 190/106 heartrate 83. I take my meds at 5:30 a.m. so laid back down and retook bp before I took meds.
Avatar f tn Now I take Diltiazem (another CCB) without much trouble. A heart rate of 86 at night is still pretty brisk. Mine is normally 60 at rest, in the low 70's when I'm up moving around. And that was before Diltiazem. No, I'm not athletic. I'm an old pudgy lady.
Avatar n tn I can't sleep was prescribed melatonin what is the maximum dosage I can take I am 16. 8 stone 12 about 5'10.
Avatar m tn I just started taking Diltiazem for my PSVT rapid heart beat. It is a little early to know if it is doing any good, although I had an episode after starting. What has been your experience with this drug as a treatment for PSVT (my blood pressure is normal)? What other drugs worked better for you? [I am a 76 year old male in otherwise good health.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, I missed the Hashi's dx - my mistake. I don't see anything that indicates you had a thyroid ultra sound? Please don't tell me I missed that too, in spite of going back and reading again...........LOL It's possible that you have nodules that are leaking hormone independently of the thyroid gland itself. This can swing you from hypo to hyper very quickly.
612551 tn?1450022175 Perhaps I can take a lower dose...will require a new prescription as the dose is in a capsule - no breaking in half possible.
1622431 tn?1299070442 I have recently been diagnosed with pacs, and my doctor put me on diltiazem. Can any one tell me from experience how effective this treatment is?
182884 tn?1259312906 I can share my own experience with Diltiazem. Back in February I was put on Diltiazem 120 ER (extended release) and only had to take it once a day. Compared to the Verapamil (also a CCB) that I had to try years ago and I ended up in the ER, the Diltiazem was a dream to take. I had some fatigue, was a bit slow mentally. The hardest part was the nasty headaches I got during the first week or so. They would hit a couple hours after I took the pill then go away.
5617263 tn?1374501466 The third atrial fib was last Friday night. The doctor in the ER put me on Cardizem (diltiazem) and changed my simvastatin to Lipitor. They instructed me to cut back on the metropolol to 25 mg. twice daily and to quit taking it if my blood pressure dipped below systolic fell below 100 or my diastolic below 60. My question is how to I gradually stop the metaprolol? I read that I should wean myself off of it in a week or two but no one seems to know how to go about it.
Avatar f tn t doing well and you raised them on your own to see if it would help which is never a good idea? What is the dose that you are taking? What dose did you take today? I could give you some more information then. But more importantly if you are starting to feel sick then you might have taken above what is the reccomended maximum dosage and clearly you are encountering some side effects.
