diflucan and toenail fungus

What is the usual dosage for treatment of toenail fungus with Diflucan? My doctor prescribed it to me and it just seems to be different than normal. He said to take 100 mg/daily for the first 10 days of each month until it's gone. Is that a normal regimen?

Even with high chlorine levels I started seeing a slime in the water and on checking the filter it was almost stopped up with this clear slime. Was this from toenail fungus? Can the toenail fungus thrive in water temps up to 105 f?

Treat the area and all the other nails with tea tree oil every day. You can get rid of the fungus this way.

I too have toenail fungus on both big toes & for many years. Have had one of them removed just to have it grow back the same after 2 removals. From my understanding one must use both an oral med along with a topical med if it is truly toenail fungus. I suffer from multiple skin cancers & have had 6 surgeries in 6 weeks with about a year more to go as I also have RA & thus a lousy healing & immune system.

It went away on its own, but shortly after (1-2 months) he developed what we thought was fungus of some sort on the big right toenail. The nail has essentially split in half and has raised ridges and dead skin type of feel look to it. We thought this was the result of the hand food mouth disease. The dermatologist we were referred to said its not fungus or bone spur, or related to the earlier hand foot mouth he had, but he also doesn't know what it is either.

Toby, You are correct, this does sound like a toenail fungal infection. Fungus may turn a toenail yellow, brown and sometimes black. The nail may become thickened with fungal debris growing underneath. The fungus likes to grow under the nail lifting it up so yes it is common for it to detach. There are other things that may mimic a fungal infection. Trauma itself can cause toenails to have similar changes as can a yeast infection.

my big toenail on my left foot is growing inward. Really digging in my skin and becoming painful. It is not an ingrown toenail. The sides are curling inward. I have been a diabetic for 20 years. I am 41. I don't have any feet problems. My diabetes is well controled. Any suggestions?

Went to dermatologist and he said yeast infection and is treating it. It has been several weeks and not a bit better. I read that ms can be related to yeast infections. I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. They grow up to a certain point seeming healthy, then suddenly the toenail darkens and seems thicker and a new one begins to grow with it. They always grow up to the point in the photo and then the problem returns and a new healthy toenail starts growing, pushing the old one out. My dermatologist put me on anti-fungal medication, when my testing for fungus was positive, but now the tests come up as negative.

They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. It sounds like you have toenail fungus. You need to take an antifungal medicine orally (Lamisil) for 3 months and you will lose the nail(s). The natural remedies don't work to my knowledge as you have penetrate the nail and the other drugs don't do that.

I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.

I have a fungus on one toenail and did not treat it because of my liver. Those drugs are hard on the liver and kidneys. The odd thing is, since starting tx the fungus is clearing up. Who knew? Now I can't resist this one as silly as it may be--you ready? There's a fungus among us!

I also have trush and occasional toenail fungus. Could this still be hiv even though these symptoms appeared three months after a possible exposure ?

I've been battling toenail fungus for over 6 years .. any advice that actually works? I've tried everything .. vinegar, clorox, all of the Rx creams .. frustrated and tired of it, and embarrased to go barefoot or with sandals.

I still have toenail fungus, but the Andy Rooney comedy eyebrows cleared up, thankfully :o). Boy, they stuck out all over the place; looking back, I probably should have slicked them down with Dixie Peach Pomade, hahaha!
