Avatar f tn Im not a doctor, however i have taken Differin and i would advise taking it constantly until the prescription runs out. Once it runs out, assess your skin- do you really need to keep taking it?? If this answer is a yes, refill the prescription and keep taking the Differin(In relation to taking it "permanently", i recommend doing this self- assessment everytime you fill the prescription, no matter how long you have been using it).
Avatar f tn Ok so I have been prescribed differin gel for "acne" problems. I recently had a huge one with deep cyst (when i touch it i can feel hardness under the skin)...then it formed a white head and oozed a lot of pus (and some blood) after which it stopped being painful. My question is can I still keep on applying differin gel on top of the acne even though it's "broken" skin? The differin seems to help calm the inflammation pretty quick and dry it out...
Avatar m tn Since I turned 25, I started getting pimples here and there. The acne worsened throughout the year into cystic acne on the cheeks when I moved overseas. I lived overseas for a year, then moved back to the states, where all my acne disappeared for two months. It returned again slowly, starting out with a small rash (which went away with Desonide Cream .05%), then milia/whiteheads all over my cheeks, and then red pimples with white pus spreading from my cheeks to my chin now.
Avatar m tn Hello, Differin topical containing adapalene, is used for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. A thin film of the gel should be applied, avoiding eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. It should help you and you should use it as prescribed. Also avoid using any lotions and creams over the face for the meantime. Wash your face with a mild cleanser with moisturizing properties like Cetaphil. Pat your face dry.
Avatar f tn Accutane has many potential side effects but this must be balanced against the fact that it provides the best chance of long term remission from acne. However, as your son may outgrow his tendancy for acne as adolesence passes, I agree this should be considered only if his acne continues after other treatments have been fully explored. Which antibiotic and creams has he tried? Erythromycin has a high resistance rate and oxytetracycline is usually preferable.
Avatar n tn Steroids can actually make acne worse so if you are prone to spots talk to your doctor about a better way to maintain clear skin. As Vanessa says, oral antibiotics such as oxytetracycline can be useful. Dermatologists have found that the best prescription acne gel is Differin. Differin is especially effective when used in conjunction with oral treatment such as antibiotics or anti-androgens (for females only).
Avatar n tn I have really oily skin, lots of white and blackheads and acne scarring (dark spots) resulted from these pimples. I was prescribed the same treatment that had worked so well before (minus the Doryx) but of course it didnt work one bit this time. I was then prescribed Differin and Finacea..no results Abt two months ago, I was prescribed Solodyn, I use neutrogena creamy wash, Retin-A and some hydroquinone for the dark spots. The solodyn make me break out in a HEAP of HIVES !!
1632818 tn?1299941302 She told me to buy some cetaphil cleanser and gave me a sample, and then she prescribed me differin which she said was for my "acne". I found this strange since I only had one pimple on my chin, and that's about as bad as it ever gets (and I wasn't bothered by having a pimple). I clarified that my problem was that my skin was sensitive, sore and feels like its burning after washing, and asked if differin would dry out my skin.
Avatar m tn i also wash face with mild cleanser and apply moisturizer, after apply moisturizer on my nose still becomes more oily. I went to see the dermatologist and he given me the differin cream, differin also make my nose oily and did not stop the oil production, which is also not helping, i very hopeless right now. please help with my oily nose.
Avatar m tn If untreated, acne can cause physical and psychological scars. It should be treated quickly and robustly and not refered to as "just acne". Best Wishes, Eloise.
Avatar m tn He gave me differin and it worked ok.While i was using the differin i was working all summer long outside and usually wore a hat.Well two years later ever since my forehead is my natural skin color which is pale. The rest of my face is very red.I have very oily skin and my skin breaksout if i put lotion or toners on it usually. Is there any advise on how to get my skin to even out and get this redness to go away. Please help.
Avatar n tn Hello, Do not use any alpha hydroxy acid products (those containing glycolic or lactic acid), salicylic acid products, retinoids (Retin A, Renova, Differin and Tazorac) and other topical acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide for 72 hours after the treatment. Also any scarubbing or acne soaps should be avoided for atleast 1 week after the miscrodermabrasion procedure.
Avatar n tn s Sparkling Clean. Washing alone will not heal acne or blackheads so do ask your doctor about Differin. Females with acne or oily skin may benefit from switching to a combined or anti-androgen contraceptive pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Yasmin, Diane35) and avoiding the mini-pill. Eloise.
Avatar n tn The pimples i keep getting are cystic acne. They hurt really bad and nothing helps them go away. This is currently what i use on my face: Face wash with .5% salicylic acid and another facewash with 3.5% benzoyl peroxide. I MAKE SURE to take really good care of my skin but it dosent seem to work. Also i have a prescription face medication cream called BenzaClin which is 1% clindamycin and 5% Benzoyl peroxide.
Avatar f tn He provided me with some antibiotics and a gel called Differin.. Which is supposed to dry out your pimples and anything else concerning the " acne".. As I used the differin I did not notice any changes in the rash.. I went back after a while and my doctor decided to give me prednison for a week.. Which did ok.. the rash disappeared only to come back less than a week after finishing the prednison treatment..
Avatar f tn Multi vitamin every day and extra Zinc, Calcium, and Magnesium. Plenty of sleep. Cleanse skin at least 2x/day (sometimes I have to do 3 due to my oil production). Exfoliate regularly, but not too harshly. Change my pillow case every other night (flipping sides in between), and never use the same towel on my face without washing it. I do not touch my skin except for when my hands are clean and I am in front of a mirror, and I use no hair products, and keep it off of my face.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. Rockoff I am a 26 year old guy who has experiecned acne for half my life, probably even more. I went on accutane 3 times, ages 15, 17 and 20. After that I have tried proactiv and every medication a dermatologist could imagine. Nothing besides accutane ever worked. At this point, I don't see myself growing out of it. I went to get a facial last week and the aesthetician said that I don't have oily skin and that what I have is not acne but ingrown hairs.
1335691 tn?1275733267 Bacteria on the skin feed off this excess oil (sebum) blocking the pores and resulting in spots. The standard treatment for acne is a course of oral antibiotics such as oxytetracycline and a topical retinoid like Differin. Get a prescription for these from your doctor. Elevated androgen levels are common during adolesence and early 20s. They would exist whether or not you masturbated. Best Wishes, Eloise.
Avatar f tn I’ve been using prescription strength differin gel for acne for many years, and would like to add a retinol moisturizer to my skincare routine for anti-aging benefits. Would like to know if the combination is safe?
Avatar f tn I recently read about a genetic test called AcneDX that tests whether or not oral antibiotics will be an effective acne treatment. My teenaged daughter has moderate acne and tetracycline has been suggested. I'm concerned about giving her a medication that may have side effects and produce an antibiotic resistance later in her life, and it may not even work to clear her acne up. The test sounds like a great way to find out prior to treatment if the antibiotics will help.
Avatar n tn i want to know what effect it would have on my liver.... i also had peels done, but acne is still persisting....n i hv got acne scars also.... can u suggest a treatment for my problem.....
Avatar m tn s opinion on the effectiveness of Accutane on smaller acne heads. My acne is on my face, neck, back, and chest. There are not very many big acne heads (I have benzoyl peroxide5%, Differin 3%, and Minocyclin 100 mg twice a day). These medications play a big part in my not having many big zits. Anyways, I have lots of little acne heads all over. How effective is Accutane at getting rid of these heads and keeping them off? (from your experience or from official sources) Thanks!
