Avatar m tn m wondering how people take oral prednisone, and is that similar to oral methylprednisolone? I know of 20mg prednisone/prednisolone tablets, but I keep reading that some people opt for 1,250mg oral prednisolone per day instead of IV. Thats an extreme amount of tablets per day. Is this correct? Also I read that they take the oral pred over 3 weeks, then again I read that its taken as the IV would be taken i.e - over 3-5 days. Which is correct? Pls help, thank you.
Avatar m tn Prednisone and prednisolone are variations on a theme. The liver turns prednisone into prednisolone. Many docs figure you might as well save a step and prescribe prednisolone.
1297586 tn?1274105947 I am taking hypothyroid meds. I have consulted ENT doc and they prescribed prednisolone, methylcobalamin inj. for this. From last week, I have seen some improvement but not at all cure. I felt some inbalance while walking and still there is some ringing sounds. I want to know whether my hearing problem will be a permanent or not. I want to hear any advice regarding my problem.
Avatar f tn Hi. The difference between prednisone and prednisolone is that one is the precursor to the other. Prednisone is activated by enzymes in the liver to turn into prednisolone. They do have similar uses but prednisolone is more readily absorbed by the body. Prednisolone is usually used when there is liver toxicity or liver failure involved. There is no great difference between them, other than the above, however ...
563594 tn?1309583132 This list is not complete and there may be other drugs that can interact with methylprednisolone. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.
Avatar f tn My Orthopedic Doctor has just ordered an MRI and prescribed methylprednisolone in a 6 day back. I am actually feeling pretty good and not as sore. I'm wondering if once the medication has left my system if I will go back to the severe pain or if this has "solved" the undetectable issue of my arm pain? Anyone have any similar experiences??

635835 tn?1272539383 (9) Adult patients beginning steroid treatment for an MS relapse received either 1250 mg oral prednisone (n=8) or 1000 mg IV methylprednisolone (n=8). Serum levels of prednisolone (the active metabolite of prednisone) and methylprednisolone were measured over the subsequent 48 hours, and AUC values were calculated after adjusting for higher potency of methylprednisolone. Wide confidence intervals were noted with both routes, indicating large interpatient variability.
Avatar f tn hi would tell you to see the doctor . And take the home pregnancy test to confirm it.
197575 tn?1215532624 Is there a difference between a complex nodule and a complex cystic nodule? I know complex means both solid and cystic. My friend's ultrasound call it a complex cystic nodule. Thanks.
97654 tn?1214348650 He put me on 300 mg per day of Lyrica and suggested I have another round of Solumedrol in two weeks (he wants there to be 30 days between the first round and the next one). I have read a lot of good and a lot of bad things about Lyrica. I understand it makes you sleepy - which will be good when I take the dose at night because I am having a lot of problems sleeping. However I'm really concerned about the things I have read about weight gain and Lyrica.
1192309 tn?1264801232 Prednisone and Prednisolone are classified as corticosteroids, both are known to increase glucose levels. Prednisone is usually given to animals and Prednisolone to humans. Medrol Tablets contain methylprednisolone which is a glucocorticoid. Glucocorticoids cause profound and varied metabolic effects. In addition, they modify the body's immune responses to diverse stimuli. Finally, Prednisolone when taken over a period of time can induce non-reversible diabetes. I can attest to that fact.
Avatar m tn t identified yet. First, I had an iv of steroids and then I took the taper dose of prednisolone. I took 3 days worth and had to quit because it made my anxiety horrible. Now I have tingling in my head all the time and am going to the bathroom alot. I am drinking plenty of liquids because now I have a bladder infection. What are the symptoms of adrenal crisis?
Avatar f tn I received my weekly allergy shots today (8/12/11) and a doctor in the office prescribed me methylprednisolone tablets to clear up poison ivy. I am to start the methylprednisolone tomorrow, but wanted to know if it was ok to take with the allergy shots. The pharmacist I talked to was not very convincing when she said it "should" be alright.
Avatar m tn hello , I had an exposure 11 weeks ago and used prednisolone between weeks 8 to 11 , and after that got a negative ag/ab elisa hiv test . (11 weeks after exposure) . my question is that :as prednisone is an immunosupressant , could it hide my hiv antibodies ? if yes , how about hiv ag ? and is my hiv ag/ab test after 11 weeks (with 3 weeks use prednisolone) accurate ?
Avatar m tn Good point, Penina. I had always assumed they were equivalent, so I decided to check this out, at http://www.globalrph.com/steroid.cgi This site has a corticosteroid equivalency converter (and maybe other interesting stuff I haven't looked at yet). The results: 1000 mg of Prednisone = 800 mg of Methylprednisolone, which is IV Solumedrol. If just considering Prednisolone, it's the same dosage as Prednisone, so I guess the Methyl in the IV makes the difference.
Avatar f tn I have been taking prednisolone on off for years for sinusitis/allergies and have read some people have started taking methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Does anyone know if this would also work for chronic sinusitis conditions?
Avatar n tn A few months ago I came down with a bad cold and ended up with bronchitis. I was prescribed the methylprednisolone pack and within a few days, all PVC's stopped! This lasted for two months during which time I resumed drinking two to three cups of caffeinated coffee per day. The PVC's did restarted slowly, but are generally less noticeable. My case may be unique. I am a 48 year old male athlete. My echocardiogram was negative.
Avatar m tn its HIGH...normal PH should be between 6.5-6.8 a very small increment. 7.1 means his urine is quite alkaline...and perhaps he is experiencing crystals in his urine, which can be quite painful....did the Vet check for crystals? propofol is normally seen as a safe anesthetic medication, but all can have side effects.. I've never read that there could be a reaction between the two mentioned. how long has your kitty been on the prednisolone? long term use of that med can cause diabetes...
Avatar n tn I was put on prednisolone for 5 weeks and now my antibody level normal. I am planning to stop the steroid. Will the level get high again. Should I take any other medication to keep level low?
Avatar f tn Importantly, differences between subtype 1a and 1b (by far the most frequently encountered genotype 1 subtypes in clinical practice) include different efficacies of antiviral drugs and different resistance profiles to such drugs. Indeed, several HCV inhibitors appear to have selective activity against different HCV genotype 1 subtypes, both in vitro and in vivo....
Avatar m tn what is the difference between addiction and dependence? I was reading another post and someone mentioned that he/she thought someone was dependent not addicted.. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Avatar n tn One medication may have been developed first and others later that are somewhat similar chemically and in the same chemical family but they may be completely different medications. I take Methocarb and that is prescribed for me to control dystonic spasms. It is an anti spasmodic. Meprobamate is an anti anxiety medication. Any of these medications can be prescribed for other purposes as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist or other treating professional.
Avatar f tn I tried similac and it didnt sit well with them. I know a lot of moms who used similac and were good with it.
