Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes in women complications

diabetes

Avatar f tn I wanted to ask that if I have not developed any complications so far and stop my unhealthy eating habits, am I likely to develop complications in the near or distant future (because I have eaten junk regularly ever since my diabetes type 2 diagnosis was made). I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks, Katie This discussion is related to Losing weight to fight diabetes.
Avatar n tn I am 36 weeks pregnant and have developed retinopathy in my left eye. I would love to hear about other diabetic women and their pregnancy experiences since everyone I know has no idea what I am talking about. Please give me some advice, support, whatever I am kind of freaking out. My dr. says delivery could cause blindness.

8401343 tn?1411882745 We watch you complain about the gestational diabetes while we are here like god you are so damn lucky. There are complications that come from gestational diabetes but us women with preexisting diabetes have so much more complications and are at high risk as soon as we get the positive test (which in itself is extremely rare and hard for us). Im sorry im ranting at all of you women but y'all get the easy side of it.
Avatar m tn Some patients actually go to the doctor with symptoms resulting from the complications of diabetes, like tingling in the feet (neuropathy) or vision loss (retinopathy), without knowing they have the disease. This is why screening people at risk for diabetes is so important. The best way to avoid complications is to get blood glucose under control before symptoms arise.
Avatar n tn amydivin, I am glad to hear that you are taking the necessary steps and planning that you are already doing in order to have a successful pregnancy. Years ago the complications were much greater in women with diabetes trying to conceive. Researchers have made great strides in the past several years. Even with that in mind, there are still risks involved.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed two days ago with this and the baby can have all those issues including high risk of diabetes and obesity later in life.
Avatar f tn ADA also recommends HBA1C of 7 as acceptable for persons with diabetes, which is nearly double of non-diabetics, who will have a HBA1C in the range of 4.3- 4.6. However, with blood sugars of 180 (and if that is the average it means the person also has much higher sugars as well) it is guaranteed that there will eventually be diabetic complications.
143 tn?1375123751 Exercise is one factor in helping to lower blood sugars. In order to control and manage diabetes lifestyle changes must be made and followed; eating a proper diabetic nutrition/diet, maintaining normal body weight, daily 30-60 minutes of exercise, and having a normal lipid panel. Above all, follow doctor's instructions. Use Google search for complications of type 2 diabetes. Show them to your parents.
Avatar f tn I am at 25 year old women was born at 25 weeks premature in 1989 weighing 1 pound.
Avatar f tn No. When I went in and had my daughter I was 255 and gave birth vaginal with no complications. I am 2 weeks away from having my son and weigh more than I did with my first and my doc is confident I will have another successful vaginal birth. You have the say on whether or not you have a c section unless the baby is in distress. Tell your doc you won't consent unless baby is on distress. Too many doctors try to bully women into c sections and don't give them enough time.
Avatar m tn I would suggest you find out more of the relationship of what causes BG to rise (eating carbohydrates), self testing, drugs to lower BG and complications (retinopathy, neropathy...). Complications are NOT part of diabetes, complications are from uncontrolled diabetes. By uncontrolled I mean BG over 136, for when BG goes over 136 that is when damage to your eyes and nerves and blood vesals happens. Complications are NOT inevitable.
Avatar n tn Even though i have had my eyes lasered for diabetic retinopathy, I see better than most of my friends and I had virtually no complications in my pregnancy. I work full time and have never missed a day of work because of diabetes. If you were toask my husband what the impact of my diabetes has been on his life, he would say that.. he eats better than he would otherwise have and that occasionally I might ask him to bring me something fro a low blood sugar attack.
Avatar f tn There are many drug company sponsored web sites wanting one [and some doctors] to believe higher than normal A1c and/or glucose levels are OK when in fact it induces diabetes side effects. The higher your levels makes one require higher medication dosage and/or additional medication to help lower the levels. Bottom line results is the more meds one needs the more profit $$ for the drug companies, the higher your daily glucose levels the more pronounced diabetes side effects become.
Avatar n tn Sindjo, You've come to a good place for info. We're not physicians, but are diabetics and/or parents of diabetics with lots of experience. It is surprising to read that your hubby's doc said there's "no inheritance factors," because research tells a different story. JDRF funds much of the diabetes research worldwide and lots of it deals with trying to understand the genetics of our disease.
Avatar f tn Also Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. You can discuss about this drug with your gynecologist.
5536886 tn?1455827346 9 1/2 years later, I am still using insulin, and still well controlled, with no complications or symptoms of diabetes.
6383533 tn?1389724454 I think it really depends on underlying health conditions in the mother previous to conception & complications during the pregnancy; I have a friend being induced at 38 weeks because she is an insulin dependant diabetic and her blood pressure is all over the place.
Avatar f tn Numbness in your right toes and your right hand are Diabetes symptoms for full blown T2 called neuropathic complications. If you are not sure if you are already a T2 then, the most inexpensive and quickest way to find out if you are an T2, go buy a Diabetes self test kit called A1C NOW, made by Bayer, at Wal-mart or at Walsgreen for $29.99. Within 10 minutes after the test, you'll see the results. Or set up an appointment to see a neurologist.
Avatar f tn They do use insulin and monitor their blood sugar. Two have children that do not have diabetes and are now in late teens (so type one which is considered juvenile diabetes usually shows by now) and one does have one of her three kids also diabetic. Your girlfriend is not flawed because she has diabetes! Does she manage it? Is she a responsible person to her health? Honestly, my diabetic friends eat properly, exercise, take good care of themselves. Is it a chronic illness they must attend to?
Avatar f tn Congratulations on trying to conceive! I was being treated with Metformin for my diabetes risk and irregular cycles. For women, Metformin can also make them super fertile (odd side effect) while regulating blood sugars. I'm not familiar with men and fertility issues, so I did a quick search and found this: Male Infertility & Diabetes DCS: What about diabetes and infertility as it is related to males? Does it cause fertility issues in men, too? Dr. Falcone: Yes.
Avatar f tn women with all these complications like hypertension and gest. diabetes. I am morbidly obese and I am on my 3rd uncomplicated pregnancy. Im 36wks today. And I've only gained a total of 9lbs. My doc says that pretty darn good.
Avatar n tn This is double normal for people without diabetes. Complications are known to start with consistently raised blood sugars above normal. I would also suggest you learn more about using insulin and use your insulin to get normal blood sugar levels. Fasting < 95 (range ideally 70 - 90), post eating < 120 (ideally < 95 (ie. similar to fasting levels). Please let us know how you go and also ask questions.
