Avatar n tn It is so ironic that you posted this question today. While waiting to see my endo today, I picked up a copy of Diabetes Health magazine. I had never seen that publication before & they had some useful articles. Their cover story & feature article was about a young man (tho' "old" in your son's eyes!) who has been a pro hockey player for many years. He's also a pumper. I visited their website, in hopes of finding that article online, but I didn't see it.
Avatar n tn Of course people with diabetes can get married. Having diabetes is not a reason to avoid marriage. People with diabetes these days are doing much better with diabetes management, and the rate of complications in people who are using these management principles are dropping drammatically. 20 years ago, this wasn't the case, so the patients that your dad sees fall into that group, where they didn't have the tools and the knowledge that we have today.

Avatar n tn medication history and be able to guide you as to dosing, etc. Some years ago, my endo suggested that I start taking folic acid supplements even tho' I'm not intending to get pregnant. There seems to be good evidence that this supplement can help our levels of "homocysteine." High levels of homocysteine can damage blood vessels and can cause birth defects (spina bifida, for example).

1074733 tn?1256235219 I traveled to China alone to get him, which started an entire plethora of health problems. Some of these were old problems that had previously gone away and some were new issues that I had never dealt with before. This past Thursday my husband rushed me to the emergency room with severe chest pain. I'm not sure who was more scared, him or me. When we got there it was packed, but they took me straight back and started hooking me up to monitors. Apparently they don't take chest pain lightly!
Avatar f tn All one had to do was turn over the cover page and look at the results--pre-diabetes. On the line between diabetes and pre-diabetes. I'll quit now. I don't have much faith in most of the doctors I've seen. The fact that I cannot be told the results of my upper GI, and receive prescriptions until I pay the specialist turns my stomach. This is not the first time it has happened either.

Avatar f tn Today I was thinking about my health and was curious to see how my blood sugar levels are. So when I was at the store I brought a device with the test strips. I probably did over 20 different samples. I ate a lot of crackers and pretzels around 130-2pm. I started testing around 5 and finished around 530 just to get a string of numbers and to get the hang of it. I’ve never been diagnosed with diabetes or have symptoms but here are my values.

Avatar n tn I hope she is seeing an endocrinologist who can guide her through this process and help her manage her diabetes. Not eating a lot of sugar is not the only factor in controlling diabetes. One has to watch all carbohydrate intake and know how their body reacts to certain foods in order to be able to control their blood sugar. You seem like a caring, concerned mother-in-law.
