Common Questions and Answers about Dha pregnancy depression

Avatar n tn You might want to look into a DHA/EPA supplement. Dr Fuhrman says most women that suffer from this related to pregnancy is due to low levels of DHA /EPA. Baby takes what they need and sometimes you are left depleted. A good one is Nordic Naturals marine algae EPA /DHA it is non gmo, and mercury free.hope this helps you!
Avatar m tn Taking a supplement with EPA and DHA A study of depressed older women in a nursing home setting showed that after taking high-dose omega-3 fatty acids for eight weeks (2,500 mg once daily consisting of 1,670 mg EPA and 830 mg DHA), 40.9% had a remission of depression compared to 16.7% of those taking placebo. This study also found a statistically significant improvement in the self-assessed quality of life and that the fish oil treatment was well tolerated.

Avatar f tn U can do that. Most prenatal vitamins that also have dha r two separate pills anyway. I take regular omega 3 fish oil pills from vitamin shop in conjunction with my prenatals from cvs. U may want to look into dha specifically for pregnancy, but they're also way more expensive. Also check to make sure the fish oil comes from small fish like sardines or anchovy and that it doesn't contain soy. It's a lot to look into, but I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn iam getting blues over my pregnancy..(( iam in to 6th week and rather being happy...iam scared about delivering my baby..pls somebody suggest me something...REALLY NEED HELP!!!!!
Avatar f tn So I Bought prenatal pills and they don't have dha. So when I had my 1st Dr appt at 5 weeks he said buy dha prenatal so I have been taking them. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and a few days ago I ran out so I been taking the prenatal pills without dha until I get paid. But I'm wondering is it even a big deal which pills i take since I'm out of 1st trimester?
Avatar f tn FISH OIL has both DHA plus EPA. The lattest is not good for pregnancy but the DHA is good, so don't take fish oil as they sell it, get DHA alone. All pharmacies have it.
Avatar n tn What brand of prenatal vitamins is everyone using? Im using nature made with dha. Just wondering if there is one kind of prenatals that are better than another.
Avatar f tn My midwives suggested these for my depression and its help a ton! Take a very large amount of dha fish oil. I recommend Nordic natural brand, strawberry flavor. I take 1200mg. Also, I started taking a prenatal yoga class. I suggest either that or water aerobics. Exercise will save you and the social aspect is truly important. Cut out the craps food and focus on good nutrition. Some days are still tough but its way better than it was! Hang in there. Im here for you too.
7062279 tn?1388370086 DHA is in fish oil, and it's for baby's brain development. Some women don't like fish, or won't eat it because they're afraid of the mercury content, but the DHA in capsure form is mercury free, and has a lot of really good benefits for you and baby (if you weren't getting DHA from the pills, or from eating lots of fish, baby would just take the DHA in your body and use that, but you use it too, so you'd be in short supply).
1123156 tn?1338863369 I took a pregnancy test after being a week late and turns out im pregnant! My DF picked up "NatureMade" Multi Prenatal (High folic acid, iron and zinc.) Now he also got "Expecta" Lipil ....DHA supplement for pregnant women.........anyone else take these? I just want to make sure im on the right track. I'm going to see the obgyn tomorrow..........cannot wait!!!!
Avatar f tn t expect curcumin to help, though, and it it does, expect it to take years for it to work. DHA also probably has no effect on anxiety or depression; what it mainly claimed is that it helps with maintaining a healthy brain and improving cognition, but anxiety is thought to come from the amygdyla in the primitive brain where this doesn't matter and nobody knows where depression comes from at this point.
Avatar f tn Hi there everyone =) I know that I should probably discuss this with my OB but I'm just curious on how many of you that are pregnant take fish oil supplements? I took them with my last pregnancy when I would remember and this pregnancy my OB hasn't suggested anything about it. So I was just wondering how many other pregnant women out there where told by there OB to start the supplements.
Avatar n tn Idk what is in the pills you are talking about but if it doesnt have dha/epa i would suggest going ahead and taking actual prenatal vitamins. Dha is to help with brain development.
Avatar f tn m taking the prescription vitafol-ob+dha which is $55 and I was taking bellybar before and during the earlier part of pregnancy which has almost 2x the amount of vitamins but no dha for $13 is it safe to switch back? Is there something else that I am overlooking?
Avatar f tn I'm taking DHA per my Dr bc he asked me was I going to breastfeed and I told him yes!
Avatar f tn One of my prenatal vitamins have DHA but no iron, and the other has iron but no DHA...The one with iron has a little higher percentage of vitamin C as well...which one should I take? If I take the one with no DHA is it ok to takr Advocare Omega Plex supplement on the side? Or should I take the vitamin with DHA and take iron on the side? These have me confused!
Avatar f tn You can buy Prenatal+DHA, but regular prenatal does not have DHA in it. My doctor said DHA is very important for babies development.
1492421 tn?1290300515 New studies are lacking scientific evidence for dha or fish oil in pregnancy however further studies are needed.
Avatar m tn I have long term depression dysthymia and then major depression sometimes. It REALLY makes life challenging.
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
1891853 tn?1344648442 I just ran out of my prenatals, they were called Nature Made prenatal + DHA. and I was thinking about filling the prescription my doctor gave me for prenatals. But I was wondering if there was any concern in switching brands? (since they have diff doses for everything) and would the doc prescribed ones be better? Or are they basic, like not containing DHA or something?
