Avatar n tn I heard she can take multivitamin and dha ( omega 3 ) , cassine protine, l glutamine and l arginine?!!!
Avatar f tn s highly recommend it, there are numerous studies that talk aboutthe benefits of Omega 3 and very few that talk about risks associated with pregnancy. I am 5 months pregnant and my baby is very healthy so far. The risks associated are from fish oil that comes from contaminated fish. You should look for supplements that are "distilled" from contaminants.
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
1281900 tn?1320336402 Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly. If you take blood-thinning medication, talk to your doctor before taking fish oil.
1192727 tn?1282735542 DHA is a omega fatty acid but buy it by itself in pharmacies and NOT as FISH IOL becase fish iol has ETA as well and it may affect the baby. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is found in cold water fatty fish and fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed.
657586 tn?1224587947 I was wondering how many women are limiting or avoiding fish intake while trying to become pregnant or during pregnancy? Personally I feel the benefit outweighs the "potential" harm of eating "fish" for the brain development of babies and children. Not all "fish" are created equally so it is important to know what kinds of fish should be avoided due to possible mercury accumulation. I know this is not a professional forum.
Avatar f tn My fav is nature made liguid gels with omega threes and dha. They are highly rated and recommend. They work excellent for me I have a very sensitive stomach and they dont upset me at all!

688450 tn?1259468734 I wanted to know the same info when I was pregnant. I was taking Prenexa prenatals (which contains 250mg DHA) vitamins along with 2 fish oil pills daily. I read that the recommended daily amount is 300mgs, but that is conflicting as you mentioned. I think I was taking about 475mgs total daily...anyway, they say the asian culture eats tons of omega 3 fatty acids primarily from fresh fish and there has been no reportings of problems...other than very bright children : ) Which I hope I have!!
Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn I have been taking fish oil for about 5 years now and take approximately 2 grams with an Omega-3 total breakdown of 600 EHA and 400 DHA per day. I know I know, talk to your doctor bla bla bla (and I will to be sure) In the meantime should I trash the pills?
984847 tn?1253732146 ) Oh and my prenatal also has a DHA (omega) supplement in it.. it thins the blood as well, and has shown great benefits to help get and stay pregnant, and great for your baby to be's brain development! GOOD LUCK!
233488 tn?1310693103 This large prospective study included women without a diagnosis of AMD at baseline who completed a food frequency questionnaire and were then followed for 10 years. Women consuming the highest levels of DHA had a 38 percent reduction in risk, while high consumption of EPA carried a 34 percent risk reduction. One serving of fish per week, primarily canned tuna fish and dark-meat fishes, reduced risk by 42 percent.
Avatar f tn I specifically went to buy prenatal vitamins that included dha in them. Its omega 3 which is a fatty acid that is good for brain development and prevents neural tube defect.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
