Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar f tn i don't remember my research on this fully, but i do recall that plant derived ALA's are not biologically equivalent to marine derived DHA. i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary.
1192727 tn?1282735542 What about flaxseed oil as omega-3 fatty acid supplement? Is it better than fish oil? Or does it have the EPA prob?
Avatar m tn An analysis of eight clinical studies which investigated the effects of taking EPA and/or DHA from fish oil with various anti-depressants (including SSRI drugs such as fluoxetine and sertraline and tricyclic drugs such as amitriptyline) found that, overall, there appeared to be additive benefit, especially from EPA in doses of about 1,000 mg — 2,000 mg per day, concluding, "EPA-rich omega-3 fish oil may be recommended for the adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder.

Avatar f tn I take regular omega 3 fish oil pills from vitamin shop in conjunction with my prenatals from cvs. U may want to look into dha specifically for pregnancy, but they're also way more expensive. Also check to make sure the fish oil comes from small fish like sardines or anchovy and that it doesn't contain soy. It's a lot to look into, but I hope this helps.
518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
Avatar n tn I have been taking fish oil for about 5 years now and take approximately 2 grams with an Omega-3 total breakdown of 600 EHA and 400 DHA per day. I know I know, talk to your doctor bla bla bla (and I will to be sure) In the meantime should I trash the pills?
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
1225070 tn?1344709174 t give you the anti-coagulant problems (thining of the blood) that sometimes you run into with fish oil, so I think DHA omega 3s are okay to take with a baby aspirin unlike regular fish oils. You can find is at any drug store next to the over the counter prenatal vitamins. I actually ordered mine from drugstore.com. Plus DHA is great for the baby once you are pregnant!!

688450 tn?1259468734 I wanted to know the same info when I was pregnant. I was taking Prenexa prenatals (which contains 250mg DHA) vitamins along with 2 fish oil pills daily. I read that the recommended daily amount is 300mgs, but that is conflicting as you mentioned. I think I was taking about 475mgs total daily...anyway, they say the asian culture eats tons of omega 3 fatty acids primarily from fresh fish and there has been no reportings of problems...other than very bright children : ) Which I hope I have!!
871965 tn?1241833146 For pregnancy the most important things are folic acid, at least 800mg (prevents neural tube defects like spina bifida(sp?)), and DHA, a form of omega fish oil responsible for developing brain, nervous system and eyes. If you get fish oil/omega 3 fatty acids, make sure the quantities list DHA and an amount specifically eg. EPA 650 mg DHA 450mg Dont take it if it says Omega 3 1650mg Includes EPA and DHA High Quality like "Nordic Naturals" is best.

There was no significant difference in the risk of a non-fatal myocardial infarction (heart attack) between participants who consumed equal to or greater than 250 mg per day of omega-3 oils and those who consumed less than 250 mg per day.
Avatar f tn Are the Nature Made Fish oil 1200mg ok for me to take? Im taking a prenatal from Wholefoods called Baby & Me, but it has no Dha in it... so im taking fish oil, with no mercury in it... im wondering if that is Safe to take. Please help?!!
Avatar f tn Flax oil isn't equivalent to fish oil. While both contain omega 3 oils, the oils they contain are quite different. The reason your shrink recommended fish oil is it's high quantity of EPA and DHA. DHA in particular is essential for proper brain function. Some people do feel lessened depression with a high dose of fish oil daily. I don't know about anxiety. Make sure you buy one from a good company that uses clean fish; I prefer Nordic Naturals.
Avatar f tn I visited my local GNC store to purchase some Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement. I bought the triple strength, and then asked while paying for it what was the normal dosage? He and another employee said "1,000mg per day." When I arrived home their "triple strength" is only 900 mg??? I have bought others that have always been 1,000mg and that is what I have been taking. Can someone please help me with what is the proper dosage? Thanks.
1095404 tn?1333992839 You take it orally it comes in a capsule!! You want the omega 3 fish oil that contains DHA etc... You can get it in 500mg or 1000mgs.
Avatar f tn Supplements that are important, according to my neurologist are B12, B6 and Vitamin D, Fish Oil (omega 3's) She likes to see high B12 levels on blood tests, but B6 not out of range high as its one tied to nerve function and as it was explained to me, either too low or too high B6 levels are not good and can affect nerve function. I suggest you get blood tested for these before you start supplementing heavily. EPA DHA is always good for what ails you.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know what foods help with digestion of Omega 3 from fish oil? Or anything that will balance the too much fish oil taken. I hope tried my best to explain myself, my English is not good.
