Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
Avatar f tn i don't remember my research on this fully, but i do recall that plant derived ALA's are not biologically equivalent to marine derived DHA. i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary.
558632 tn?1303471125 INGREDIENTS Cold-pressed unrefined organic flaxseed oil, hexane free DHA algal oil (contains soy lecithin), non-genetically engineered natural vitamin E mixed tocopherols and organic rosemary extract (to protect freshness). I am assuming soy lecithin is soy right? just typed in google flax seed oil ingredients. When i go to endo next month going to ask about both of these. If my thyroid mind remembers i will let you know!!!!
1225070 tn?1344709174 DHA comes from a source that is known as being pretty clean and doesn't give you the anti-coagulant problems (thining of the blood) that sometimes you run into with fish oil, so I think DHA omega 3s are okay to take with a baby aspirin unlike regular fish oils. You can find is at any drug store next to the over the counter prenatal vitamins. I actually ordered mine from drugstore.com. Plus DHA is great for the baby once you are pregnant!!

Avatar f tn Also Green Pastures Cod Liver Oil is an excellent source for dha.
Avatar m tn Fish oil is pretty much as good, and maybe even better for DHA, so you should be fine using fish oil if you feel the krill oil is affecting you adversely. Just make sure you buy a clean source -- one good thing about krill oil is that krill don't live in waters we've polluted as much as other sources of fish oil, but there are companies that are very careful, such as Nordic Naturals.
Avatar f tn The natural fish oil source of EFAs in PrimaCare and PrimaCare ONE prenatal vitamins is a safe pharmaceutical-grade source. The fish oil is refined via a patented multi-step purification process. The FDA’s established acceptable level of mercury is 1.0 ppm. The fish oil source in PrimaCare and PrimaCare ONE prenatal vitamins has a maximum specification for mercury (0.025 ppm) that is 40 times lower than the FDA’s established acceptable level of mercury.
Avatar n tn Eating the right foods literally feeds your joints and keeps them strong and flexible. Foods like fish and walnuts or almonds contain essential fatty acids that lubricate. Unless you eat fatty fish like salmon or sardines on most days, you're not getting enough omega-3 fats-or their anti-inflammatory benefits. You want to get two specific omega-3s in particular: EPA and DHA. The best source for both is fish oil. Aim for 1,000-3,000 mg total DHA and EPA.
Avatar f tn I am 10 weeks pregnant and have been taking the generic prenatal vitamins plus over the counter Omega 3 fatty acid supplements that contain fish oil concentrate from Kroger since I don't eat seafood. They have 240mg of DHA and 360mg of EPA in 2 capsules. My doctor told me to take them, but online I've been finding that the fish oil and other things in the over the counter supplements may be bad during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn If it were me, I would probably avoid the Salmon oil and use a different kind of fish oil. Carlson had a great one and I can tolerate it well, I have all kinds of allergies, but, this is good for me to take.

Avatar f tn Okay, I am a little naive about fish oil.... what do you mean by,-" but contained listed EPA and DHA High440 mg per very large softgel?" What is EPA and DHA?? Sorry, this a learning lesson for me. Thanks for the teaching moment. I am know you have to watch for mercury... other than it saying molecularly distilled I know NOTHING!!
Avatar m tn Hi all, I've learned that excessive vitamin A interferes with the effectiveness of Vitamin D since they can compete for some of the same receptor sites. I take a pretty good dose of fish oil every day and am wondering if it has any vitamin A in it. I wouldn't want to take anymore vitamin A than what is already in my multivitamin. I know cod liver oil has vitamin A and D, but what about regular fish oil from things like anchovy, mackerel and sardines?
Avatar f tn t reduce cholesterol, it raises the levels of HDL, the good cholesterol. So does flax seed oil and hemp seed oil, but with different essential fats. It also acts as a mild blood thinner. What you want to do is start taking it and see on your next blood test if your HDL has gone up -- that means you're getting a good dose. High HDL is much more beneficial than high LDL is harmful.
