Avatar f tn I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my 1st child. Just had my first prenatal visit over a week ago. Doc said he wanted me start omega pills & handed me a flyer with different brand name options. The one that stood out was Nordic Naturals. I went to their website, click the pregnancy tab & reviewed the options for pregnancy which were Cod liver oil & Prenatal DHA. My best friend who already has a child told me the cod liver oil was the best so I decided to buy it.
Avatar f tn Cod liver oil isn't the same as fish oil. Whole other ball of wax. Fish oil doesn't need to be refrigerated if it's in gel caps, but in liquid it should be, though not until it's opened. Flax oil should be kept refrigerated, but if it's in gel caps it doesn't need to be refrigerated until the bottle is opened. If it's just liquid, then it needs to be refrigerated all the way down the line, from manufacturer to retailer and in your home.

Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar n tn Country Life or Carlson Labs offer vitamin A from CLO. Try 10,000 IU of A and start with 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil, the EPA and DHA will also help. Carlson Labs has CLO with 400 and 500 mg of EPA and DHA per teaspoon. Consider working up to 1 teaspoon CLO 2 times per day. With the A from CLO and the actual CLO, you should notice immediate improvement in the tics as well as reduced hyperactivity/ anxiety. The most important food to avoid is gluten (barley, wheat and rye.

Avatar m tn I have read a number of threads which are saying that fish oil with high levels of EPA and DHA can help to reverse liver fibrosis if there is no further liver injury occuring. Is this correct? I have found locally a fish oil liquid that has 968 mg of EPA and 878 mg of DHA per 10ml serving. Would this be enough because it recommends only 10 ml per day? By the way it also states on the box that a) it is made to Pharma GMP standards and b) it uses opti-pure purification process.

Supplements containing EPA may not be recommended for infants or small children because they upset the balance between DHA and EPA during early development. Pregnant women should talk to their doctor before taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil capsules may cause minor side effects, such as loose stools, abdominal discomfort, and belching. In addition, they may prolong bleeding time slightly.

Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
63984 tn?1385437939 Great point, I always get my fish oil at a local health food store and I try to buy either Salmon or deep ocean Cod. The goal is to get a total of 600 mg of EPA and DHA combined. A good Salmon omega 3 gives me a little over 750 mg on 3600 mg or fish oil per day. Thanks for sharing!

1756970 tn?1314376733 What you will want is the EPA. EPA is found in the fish oil, it helps with mood and brain function. DHA is less needed but is still good for the brain. I think 3000mg of EPA is a good amount but you will need to ask your doctor or professional for the amount. I don't think you can ever have to much. I am on 6 grams of fish oil but with only has 2grams of EPA in the 6 grams of fish oil i take.

Avatar n tn I answered on your other post, but do want to say none of the brands you're taking are the best quality. You want fish oil sourced from clean fish. Buying bargain brands can be problematic with supplements.
