Avatar f tn I took the Enfamil DHA & Omega- 3 supplement because it is designed for pregnant women, but I am sure that if your doc told you to take them then you are just fine. DHA/ Omega- 3 fatty acids are very important for your baby's brain development so I don't know why the pharmacist would recommend you stop taking them.
1192727 tn?1282735542 DHA is a omega fatty acid but buy it by itself in pharmacies and NOT as FISH IOL becase fish iol has ETA as well and it may affect the baby. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. It is found in cold water fatty fish and fish oil supplements, along with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Vegetarian sources of DHA come from seaweed.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn You can start now but I try to get other vitamins through food rather than the pills. Like for omega 3 I eat eggs and tuna and baked salmon. I even had fried tilapia lol.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn re tiny seeds that have very little taste and can easily be put in almost any food. I put 1/2 tsp in my cereal or yogurt once a day and now have all the Omega-3 I need without the expensive pills or having to worry about whether I'm eating enough fish. It also costs alot less - last weekend I paid only $1.19 for 1/2 lb. that should last at least a month. If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).
Avatar m tn t bad for you, and there are many different ones, some of which are as good for you as omega 3 fatty acids, such as GLA. As for seaweed being a source of DHA, it is generally believed that the DHA in seaweed isn't absorbed by humans. It is absorbed by fish, which is where the fish get the DHA from in the first place -- eating seaweed, particularly red seaweed, which is usually not digestible for humans.
Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar f tn I compared them and decided to do two regular multi vitamins and the omega 3 vitamins for the dha. I couldn't do the horse pills.
Avatar f tn I specifically went to buy prenatal vitamins that included dha in them. Its omega 3 which is a fatty acid that is good for brain development and prevents neural tube defect.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
12584065 tn?1436320514 So i just got a bottle of DHA 600 from gnc tonight. It also is combined with 250 mg of EPA(omega 3). Is that too much? How much do u ladies take???
Avatar n tn EPA and DHA. The best source for both is fish oil. Aim for 1,000-3,000 mg total DHA and EPA. That's three to nine capsules a day of most brands. Take 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate and 1,200 mg of chondroitin a day. Take 500-1,500 mg of MSM per day. Also take Take 400 to 800 mg a day of Sam-e. A product from New Chapter called Zyflamend, contains rosemary, curcumin, and ginger that are anti-inflammatories.
Avatar f tn Rather, we want to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oils) to reduce the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the food. So, rather than add a supplement to a food, you are better served to feed a food that already has increased omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, EPA and DHA), and has a ratio of n-6 to n-3 of between 10:1 and 5:1.
Avatar n tn The connection between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and ADHD has been confirmed by studies in which youngsters with ADHD, when compared with non-ADHD children had much lower blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid necessary for normal function of the eyes and the cerebral cortex (the brain region that handles higher functions such as reasoning and memory). Scientific Evidence Two types of fatty acids are considered essential.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
233488 tn?1310693103 This large prospective study included women without a diagnosis of AMD at baseline who completed a food frequency questionnaire and were then followed for 10 years. Women consuming the highest levels of DHA had a 38 percent reduction in risk, while high consumption of EPA carried a 34 percent risk reduction. One serving of fish per week, primarily canned tuna fish and dark-meat fishes, reduced risk by 42 percent.
773801 tn?1244520679 The doctor will tell you to take prenatal vitamins and DHA which is Omega 3 which promotes healthy brain development and eyes and nervous system. What they fail to tell you that if you are taking these daily that you need to stop taking them at the end of your pregnancy because it prevents you from going into labor. Omega 3 are used to help prevent preterm labor, PMS menstral cramps in non pregnant women and relieve joint and prevent inflammation.
Avatar f tn Eirlis is correct, you need more than just the folic acid. Go to walmart or another large food chain and you can get a pregnancy vitamin with approx 800MCG (micrograms not milligrams) of folic acid. Dr's reccomend taking approx 2-5 milligrams of folic acid only if you have had a child with a neural tube defect (spina bifida, etc). the 5mg won't hurt you or the baby if you do get pregnant.
Avatar f tn So i visited a friend today and she looked at my prenatal vitamins that i had with me and was surprised they didn't have dha in them. She gave me some dha vitamins and recommended that i take them and continue to do so. My dr didn't mention dha. Am i alone in this?
