Desvenlafaxine vs effexor

Common Questions and Answers about Desvenlafaxine vs effexor

pristiq

Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are not the dance thing. Sane family. Venlafaxine vs desvenlafaxine. Pristiq had added benefit of norepinehprine uptake inhibitor or something. Weird that everyone is getting prescribed 50mg when the added benefits dont kick in until 100-150mg. Before swapping drug altogether (depending on non mental side effects) try upping dose first maybe.
Avatar n tn At one point I was on both Effexor and Abilify, then my doctor took me off the Effexor. I have done fine on Abilify alone - but that is me. Did your doctor put you on all 3 of these meds at once - or at different times, in response to symptoms you were having? I would speak with your M.D. at your next visit and tell him or her that you don't want to be on so much medication. See what he or she says. I always prefer to side with the doctor when it comes to this sort of thing.
Avatar f tn Pristiq is nothing but an active metabolite of Effexor (venlafaxine being Effexor and desvenlafaxine being Pristiq). Honestly, it should be about as effective as Effexor is. The only reason it was created is because Effexor's patent (if it hasn't already) and soon will be a generic, cheap drug. The pharmaceutical companies always come up with a new drug to push over the old ones whenever this happens because they don't make even a quarter of the money off of the generic drugs.
Avatar f tn From my personal experance, effexor is horrible, when i took it i would get chills on the left side and sometimes get so dizzy with it i would fall over. it is very strong stuff. everyone is different though.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar m tn i have never taken wellbutrin but my daughter does, i have taken effexor. for me the effexor was terrible, but some people on this site do very well with it. it made me extremly tired, heart palpitations, raised my blood pressure, jaw pain and many other problems. my daughter says the wellbutrin helps her depression but makes her anxiety worse so if you have anxiety you may have to take something for that on top of the wellbutrin. in my opinion, effexor is horrible, i hated it.
Avatar f tn This is my case and it is difficult to understand what I am suffering from most now as the effects of being on effexor are much like a thyroid gone bad. And since I stopped effexor and all antideppresson drugs almost 7 months ago. However now I feel effexor withdrawls are worse. I am aware of this happening and am trying to deal with both problems. Has anyone else felt this same thing and if so how do you deal with it, how do you tell which is which, thyroid or effexor?
Avatar n tn Not true that people find Effexor more effective. They all affect each individual differently. Effexor tends to have far more side effects than Zoloft, and is known to be much more difficult to quit. On the other hand, are you sure Zoloft is any safer during pregnancy? Whatever the case, you'll have to taper very carefully off Effexor before you start Zoloft so you can tell which is a side effect of Zoloft and which is a withdrawal effect of Effexor.
Avatar m tn I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
Avatar n tn Never rush coming of psych. meds. I'm on Effexor, as Citalopram didn't help.Am on it for life, as I've relapsed several times, only to end up in Psych. Hospital. Consultant insisted that it is in my best interest to remain on Effexor 150 mg as a 'maint. dose. Along with 3.75 mg. of Zopiclone (sleeping tablet) Since I've not quitted Effexor I can't answer your question. Take longer than you are tempted to before you quit.
Avatar f tn Pristiq is kind of a funny SNRI. Remember it was released just before Effexor XR ended it's 7 year patent protection. Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same. Funny thing is you know why Weith pharm released Pristiq?
Avatar n tn All of these can cause digestive problems. Effexor could have, too. You just never know. Keep in mind, Zoloft is very different than Effexor, it's a different class of drug. It tends to be less problematic than Effexor, which is why your psychiatrist might have recommended it, but it's also a weaker antidepressant since it doesn't target norepinephrine, only serotonin. I'm not the doctor, by the way, just a user!
Avatar n tn s was put on antidepressants to cope with severe mood swings , anxiety, etc. I have found that effexor xr to be helpful to calm me from outburst of anger but I stay at a too layed back level, no emotion I don't cry as often but never laugh etc. I have researched ADD and wonder if I have ADD. The symptoms are so similar. I think I will ask my Doctor to try me on some of the meds to see if I can see a difference but am afraid because i have high blood pressure.
Avatar m tn Pristiq is (Desvenlafaxine) and Effexor is (Venlafaxine) that just goes to show you how much alike the two drugs are. In fact at the molecular level the two drugs are 99% exactly the same active compound. You might ask why the makers of Effexor would release a drug so much like Effexor. The answer is "Market share" Effexors Patent runs out very soon and the company that makes Effexor wanted a drug just like Effexor to keep Market share and all those billions rolling in.
Avatar m tn If you want to know why it this works, a big part of it is the half-life of the medicine (Effexor is 3 hours vs. Prozac 70 hours....short half life means far worse withdrawal). Second is the receptors that Prozac hits vs Effexor which ends up reversing the withdrawal effect. Then when you finally get off Prozac it just slowly fades away over a 7 day period out of your body without any withdrawal.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me all the way up to 150 mg of effexor and it made me worse. I've only tried xanax once recreationally so I don't really know the side effects. But my doctor reduced me to 37.5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam. I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks.
Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm on tamoxifen so I can't take any meds which inhibit cyp2D6 enzymes. I've been on almost ALL SSRI ( Effexor, lexapro, celexa, nortriptyline, fetzima, & viibryd) & my depression worsens with them (suicidal thoughts, etc). The only one that has helped is remeron but every time I've had to return to remeron I gain weight. I'm usually 110-112 and eat very well & workout almost everyday.
324184 tn?1308076203 pdf Discontinuation symptoms have been reported when switching patients from other antidepressants, Including Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) to PRISTIQ (Desvenlafaxine) . Tapering of the initial drug may be necessary to decease symptoms. http://labeling.pfizer.com/showlabeling.aspxid=497 Cymbalta has a coating that resists dissolving until reaching the G.I. tract where the pH exceeds 5.5 (duodenum).
Avatar f tn t hear good things about Paxil but I have to say it was worth going through the withdrawls from Effexor to be put on somethineg that really works for me with none of the side effects that Effexor has. I'm crossing my fingers for you. You might not believe this but you sound like a strong person. You are stronger than you give youself credit for. With that strenght I knnow you can get though the withdrawls. They won't last forever even though they might feel like they will.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I have found a difference in the generic form of Effexor. I have asked to be put back on Effexor, and feel much better for it. The doctors and pharmacists may not agree, but my body tells me what it feels. We are all different, and what works for one person, does not work for another. A doctor told me there is little difference in the price, but then I am lucky, as I don't have to pay. In UK under 16s and over 60s do not pay for their medication. One good thing about the NHS.
