Pristiq vs effexor xr

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq vs effexor xr

pristiq

Avatar n tn I am supposed to start taking pristiq 50mg. along with effexor xr 75mg for a week and then effexor xr 37.5mg along with the pristiq for a week, and then just pristiq. I am afraid, seeing how just being off effexor for 7 hrs. put me in E.R. The Doctor said pristiq won't do that if I miss or am late on a dose. He better be right.
Avatar m tn I recently switched from Pristiq to Effexor XR in order to taper down. 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. I found Pristiq did not cause as much low libido as Effexor has for me. I also didn't gain weight on it. Same might be true for Effexor for me (who knows?). I gained weight on Celexa and felt significantly more blunted emotionally by it.
Avatar f tn I tried Pristiq in an attempt to help with menopausal symptoms. I was (and am) on Effexor XR, and Pristiq is almost identical to Effexor XR. I think the only difference is in their molecules. I didn't find Pristiq any better (for me) than Effexor XR, so I went back to Effexor XR. I wish you the best of luck with it. I hope it works for you.
Avatar m tn I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are not the dance thing. Sane family. Venlafaxine vs desvenlafaxine. Pristiq had added benefit of norepinehprine uptake inhibitor or something. Weird that everyone is getting prescribed 50mg when the added benefits dont kick in until 100-150mg. Before swapping drug altogether (depending on non mental side effects) try upping dose first maybe.
603543 tn?1255294450 I stopped taking my pristiq to switch to effexor xr....Ive developed headaches and am severly tired...Ive been off the pristiq for three weeks....should i have tapered off the pristiq first even though they are suppose to be the same??? help please i dont know what to do and i cant take it anymore...
455167 tn?1259257871 Right you are that (at least chemically speaking) Effexor XR and Pristiq are 99% the same drug. I also tried a switch from Effexor to Pristiq. I had 4 good years on Effexor at 300Mgs a day before it stopped working at which point Pristiq was chosen. I took 100MGs a day of Pristiq becuase I am medication resistant. Pristiq was horrible. Next to Cymbalta the worst SNRI I had ever taken. Even after months on the medication it only covered maybe 20% of my symptoms.
1450085 tn?1298941702 5mg of Effexor XR, he said the 50mg of Pristiq was too much, anyone ever done this switch or have experiences on the 37.5mg of Effexor?
Avatar f tn I have just started taking Pristiq after being on Effexor-XR for a long time and I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any good experiences with Pristiq, and if so could they please share them?
Avatar n tn You know why Weith Pharm (makers of Effexor XR) came out with Pristiq? Well, Effexor XR was and is the worlds highest grossing (sales) antidepressant in history. It has earned Weith 3.5 Billion (not million) dollars in sales per year. Just that one medication 3.5 BILLION! BUT as you know it's been 7 years since the release of Effexor XR and Weiths patent on the Extended Release formula runs out this month.
Avatar n tn Although everyone reacts differently to a particular medication, my experience with Pristiq is that it was no different from the Effexor XR I had been taking. I'm now back on Effexor XR. The two medications are almost identical. You do need to give it about four weeks before you make an assessment about its effectiveness. Good luck.
759115 tn?1256997490 My best results were with Effexor XR (a couple years before the Cymbalta and pristiq problem) Effexor XR just worked much better. (unfortunatly after 4 years even at 300Mgs a day Effexor stopped working for me) Now I must take very powerful combinations of Tri-cyclic antidepressants and mood stabilizers just to get a theraputic effect. My body has slowly become antidepressant resistant. A fate that I do not wish on anyone.
Avatar f tn I've been on Pristiq. My GP gave it to me. I've been on it for about 6 months and it's fine for me. It's most effective dose is 50mg, which is equivalant to 150mg Effexor XR I was told. My psychiatrist switched me to Effexor because he says they are the same and I am tapering off. I did NOT gain weight on Pristiq and I think the sexual side effects weren't as bad. I can tell the difference on Effexor.
Avatar n tn I stopped taking Effexor XR four months ago and I've been on Citalopram for the past 2 months. It's not helping and I want to go back to Effexor which helped me a lot more. For both meds I had to go through a month of hell before they started to work. Will I need another month for Effexor to start working again or will my body remember it and therefore will allow it to start working straight away?
Avatar f tn ve recently been experiencing panic attacks. My Dr added Pristiq to my treatment. As I understand, Pristiq is a more purified form of Effexor. Since starting on the Pristiq two weeks ago, I have felt like pure poo poo. I went to a GP today, thinking I may have a virus or something. She said she would NEVER prescribe both Effexor and Pristiq together. I'm pretty confused on which doctor I'm supposed to believe. I'm going to try to stop the Pristiq, but am not sure what will happen.
603543 tn?1255294450 I hate to see you have to switch from Effexor XR if it was working well for you. You are correct that Celexa and Effexor XR are very different in terms of what neurotransmitters they effect in the brain. Celexa being an SSRI and Effexor XR being an SNRI. For depression has heavy symptoms of fatuge and exhaustion, then an SNRI is always a better bet becuase they tend to be more energizing.
Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq and/or Effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than Effexor. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Because I could not afford Effexor anymore, my doctor put me on Pristiq. Now I feel awful. I am having brain shivers, I feel angry for no reason. I want to cry for no reason. What can I do?
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor XR for a few months, but I couldn't take getting sick whenever I forgot to take a dose. My doctor switched me to Pristiq, which works the same way as effexor. I haven't had any problems with weight gain on either of the meds, though. I've actually lost a bit of weight since starting pristiq. I've been on it for months and my depression and anxiety have been put in their place! Your eating habits may have changed a bit.
Avatar m tn I, personally, like Effexor. After being on Effexor XR for about 7-8 years, my psychiatrist switched me to Pristiq (which is Effexor Lite) last year because it was cheaper for me to get than the Effexor was. I can tell you this, it is the best medication for me. I'd been on Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Zoloft, and some old-school MAOI's. But nothing, nothing, worked as well as the Effexor for my anxiety disorder.
Avatar f tn None of us are professionals, just people sharing our experiences with others. When it comes to switching and changing medication it is always best to do it under the advice of your doctor.
Avatar m tn I left school and after a year of working with a psychiatrist I found myself in a position to return to school. Meds were Effexor XR, Adderall XR, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, and Lorazepam. During my senior year in college, my father left our family and I experienced a lot of anger and frustration towards this. I thought my family was leaving me. He had an affair for two years and for those two years I tried desperately to hold a job, but could not because I felt so depressed and hopeless.
822153 tn?1333062995 I am a pharmacuetical rep and I seePrystiq in the sample closets at drs offices all the time. Basically what it is is a reformulated Effexor XR (antidepressant). It word on seratonin and norepinephrine (mood and motivation). At higher doses it does hit some dopamine receptors. Please be sure to not stop this drug without tapering to lowest dose as you will experience wd's (nothing like pill wd's) but mild flu like symptoms.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Effexor XR for many years. I experience the horrible withdrawal symptoms if I miss a dose by as little as 4 hours. Over the last year, I've had increasing difficulty concentrating and following through on tasks. I will sit and stare at the computer for 5-10 minutes and it's like my mind goes completely blank. Would you recommend stopping Effexor and switching to Cymbalta? Will Cymbalta reduce the withdrawal effect?
Avatar f tn Has your doctor not addressed your high BP? I'm not sure if these medications can cause this, but either way, it can't go on this high. With your family history, it's imperative that you act on this. Since your BP stays within the same range, I seriously doubt it's the medication. I hope you have a psychiatrist prescribing your medications because they are most knowledgeable and will know what side effects are a result of the meds. Take care...
