Avatar n tn My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar f tn t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine. I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.
Avatar n tn talk to your doctor about desmopressin, it works.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with secondary autoimmune adrenal insufficiency in December. I feel lousy most of the time, have chronic abdominal pain and abnormal stools, and feel best flat on my back...which doesn't work well for someone who works 12 hour shifts in a busy ER while selling one house, building another, and has 2 teens and a disabled husband, lol. Here's my question. If a person has say diabetes, their meds are based on their blood sugars.

Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Call your local pharmacist. We at MedHelp are not allowed to give out dosing instructions. Your pharmacist will be able to tell you exactly how to dose the medications. If your regular pharmacy is closed on Sunday, call any pharmacist availabe at your local grocery store or drug store such as Walgreens, CVS, or RiteAid.
Avatar f tn ) Then she describes the appropriate medications to use in early Lyme (when there is an erythema migrans), and says that IV ceftriaxone (Rocephin) is not appropriate at this stage. Then she is quoted saying... "You might be thinking, ‘Who in the world would use IV [intravenous] ceftriaxone for erythema migrans?’ but it happens all the time. In high-incidence areas for Lyme disease, we have lots of people who call themselves Lyme specialists who set up shop and put ads in the phone book.
Avatar m tn I went thru a Detox program at an IV Detox place in Woodland Hills, CA. 2 years ago. You get the IV hook up and go thru the diarrhea for 2 days until all opiates are out of the system. Then they put you on Sub and immediately begin tapering you down from Day One. Unfortunately I had to move away immediately and got back on Norco, but have been self dosing with Sub for 6 months from 2mg to 1mg a day now. I need to quit, but it's tough.
Avatar m tn Hello Dr. A recovering addict that I know has some vein issues. In '04 he started using hydrocodone and oxycodone for back pain, rarely abusing it until last year. That is when the hydromorphone and syringe use started. 8-16mg injections with a 30gauge, 5-6 times a day was the norm. About 3 months ago, he went "cold turkey" and the veins in his hands healed nicely. About 3 weeks ago, he lost his wife, his house and his job..
6012171 tn?1381679620 Well, Jess, MS neuros have been administering huge doses of steroids for TN and other MS flares for many years. Most patients tolerate them well or at least feel that a few days of bearable side effects are worth it to get rid of the pain. I've had 2 TN attacks that have been awful. I cannot take Tegretol because it destroys my blood platelets, also my balance. I seem to do well on IV Solumedrol for TN and other issues, and feel okay about that since it's been only once a year or so.
Avatar m tn I told my doctor and she put me back down to 20mg. Now when i was on the 40mg my mind was clear and i was happy. Now..... Since iv been put back on 20mg my thoughts have came back and i fear it wont work again. Any advice?
Avatar m tn In general, the guidelines are double for illness over 100, and 100mg IV (or IM) bolus for surgery, crisis etc. You should for exercise add salt (AI is a salt wasting disease - the degree that you waste can depend but sweating will make you lose fluids). So keeping hydrated is very important for you - more important than most.
Avatar m tn Short of walking around with a slow-drip IV, more frequent dosing of 2b may well give the best results. For those pursuing a "scorched earth" tx (gauf?) this definitely seems a good strategy. Giving up the "convenience" of once weekly dosing seems a smaller, and safer, path than dose increase.
Avatar m tn If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried. Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
