My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug.
Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
I have Hepatitis C with Hemophilia-a. I was wondering if I should be taking Centrum Silver? This is the only Centrum that does not have Iron. I was taking regular Centrum that did have iron while I was on treatment. Also are there any other good vitamin supplements?
t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine.
I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.

Also, does having hemophilia put me at a higher risk of getting it through sexual contact? I can only find information about blood transfusions regarding HIV and hemophiliacs.

today the consultant gave me tablets called desmopressin acetate. i understand they reduce urine amounts. will try but cant see them working well.
Any new ideas or anyone with same prob please help.
i dont know im just kind of iffed out about it especially since i have hemophilia and am a very slow healer. Anything anyone would mind sharing about your epesiotomy/ripping experience?
Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating.

DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Wow, I am so glad I found this website it is really refreshing. I am a 30 year old male. I was diagnosed with Hep C. Here is a little background. I consider myself a young, healthy, in shape male who has always enjoyed life. My only issues before this was that I had "mild" hemophilia. When I say mild, I mean I lived a normal life growing up, playing contact sports, outdoors, basically whatever I wanted. Hemophilia only showed up when I had a major injury, which was rare.
Also specialized tests like that for clotting factor deficiency, thalasemmia, hemophilia, liver diseases (by liver function tests) etc will need to be done.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to aa hematologist.

Your symptom of nose bleeds may also indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. The bleeding can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents. This can be detected by blood counts and bleeding and clotting time. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Unusual causes include tuberculosis, parasitic infections and any diseases that affect blood clotting such as hemophilia and chronic liver disease. Patients who have hematospermia associated with symptoms of urinary infection or visual and/or microscopic blood in the urine require a complete urologic evaluation.
