Avatar n tn My father had a brain tumor removed and now has to take a nasal spray called Desmopressin. His endocranologist only wants him to use it one time a day, but the problem is he goes to the bathroom sometimes every 15 minutes!!!! He is also on 1/2 mg of Dexamethasone and that's part of the problem. Sometimes he takes two puffs a day but the doctor doesn't want him to do that daily.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar n tn I have Hepatitis C with Hemophilia-a. I was wondering if I should be taking Centrum Silver? This is the only Centrum that does not have Iron. I was taking regular Centrum that did have iron while I was on treatment. Also are there any other good vitamin supplements?
Avatar f tn t mention in your question what medication you were taking. Commonly central DI is treated with desmopressin. Desmopressin works by limiting the amount of water passed in the urine. I don't know why you would suddenly notice a decrease in your symptoms after 34 years. I would recommend making an appointment with your regular doctor to see what might be causing this. Until you can be seen, it is important that you remain aware of your fluid intake and output.
Avatar n tn talk to your doctor about desmopressin, it works.
Avatar f tn Also, does having hemophilia put me at a higher risk of getting it through sexual contact? I can only find information about blood transfusions regarding HIV and hemophiliacs. S.

Avatar m tn Is there a medication for Diabetes Insipidus other than Desmopressin? The headaches as a side affect are dibilitating. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/557217'>peuatrygland diabetts</a>.
1926656 tn?1334970201 t see me until I saw a hematologist/hemophilia center for a hereditary disorder I have. Saw the hematologist. They want mri's of my lungs and brain to rule out a bleed, and a bubble echo to rule out a hole in my heart (can happen with my disorder). They want to do all of this with the mf specialist appointment in one day. #1 I have to travel 2 hours to this place. #2 because I get so exhausted so fast they thought getting it done all at once would be easier.
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Hemophilia, another bleeding disorder, causes missing or defective factor VIII (hemophilia A) or factor IX (hemophilia B). Both of these proteins are important for blood clotting. Synthetic versions of these clotting factors can help treat hemophilia and reduce the risk of serious bleeding, including severe bruises. When a genetic bleeding disorder causes easy bruising, it is also possible that the person may bleed to excess or even experience life-threatening hemorrhages.
Avatar m tn Wow, I am so glad I found this website it is really refreshing. I am a 30 year old male. I was diagnosed with Hep C. Here is a little background. I consider myself a young, healthy, in shape male who has always enjoyed life. My only issues before this was that I had "mild" hemophilia. When I say mild, I mean I lived a normal life growing up, playing contact sports, outdoors, basically whatever I wanted. Hemophilia only showed up when I had a major injury, which was rare.
Avatar m tn Also specialized tests like that for clotting factor deficiency, thalasemmia, hemophilia, liver diseases (by liver function tests) etc will need to be done. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral to aa hematologist. Take care!
Avatar m tn These conditions include hemophilia, sickle cell disease, and pigmented villonodular synovitis. All of these conditions all blood to accumulate within the joint causing swelling and pain. Several conditions can cause bleeding within a joint leading to joint inflammation, or arthritis. I did't believe his words, after that I go through google and found a review site "joint health magazine". This site clarified all of my doubts.
Avatar f tn One example is albinism. Another would be hemophilia. Cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, and Tay Sachs are other types of recessive characteristics. A talk with a genetic counselor could shed some light on the more likely possibilites. Many problems can be tested for prenatally with amniocentesis and genetic testing. Many others can't. Hope this information is useful!
148588 tn?1465778809 Medical researchers in Britain have successfully treated six patients suffering from the blood-clotting disease known as hemophilia B by injecting them with the correct form of a defective gene, a landmark achievement in gene therapy. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2011/12/11/MNE31MAVTD.
895634 tn?1283989210 I had so many obstacles (HIV, cirrhosis, hemophilia, low platelets, chronic nausea, 35 lb weight loss, a painful kidney stone, and an unsupportive spouse soon to be an ex spouse). I only missed a handful of workdays mostly for appts. For some reason the last week was the hardest side effect wise. Wish you all healthy and happy futures. I'll check in from time to time.
Avatar f tn Your symptom of nose bleeds may also indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. The bleeding can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents. This can be detected by blood counts and bleeding and clotting time. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Avatar f tn Unusual causes include tuberculosis, parasitic infections and any diseases that affect blood clotting such as hemophilia and chronic liver disease. Patients who have hematospermia associated with symptoms of urinary infection or visual and/or microscopic blood in the urine require a complete urologic evaluation.
Avatar f tn Please get an opinion from an oncologist, another one, if you've already seen one as one of your three doctors. http://www.colorectal-cancer.ca/en/just-the-facts/symptoms/ Do it soon, please, and good luck!
895634 tn?1283989210 s (44 now), physically feel better than ever, HIV undetectable, and hematologist encouraging me to participate in gene therapy trial for hemophilia cure. Addition by subtraction spouse-wise. I learned who I can count on in tough times and she was not one of them. If you are spooked by the thought of treating, I had all the odds stacked against me. failed attempt, HIV, cirrhosis, bleeding disorder, low platelets etc. I had a rough time, but it could have been much worse.
Avatar m tn If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried. Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
