Avatar m tn I am 4 months Post op ( with post op problems of cortisol levels rising again ) I had most of my pituitary gland removed I am still not back at work I also have DI but its pretty well controlled now on 200mcg desmopressin in the morning and 400mcg at night. I tried the nasal sprays but they didnt work for me, so my endo has left me on the tablets which work really well. Its not expected that my DI will resolve and ill be on Desmo for life.
Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
1546654 tn?1294411026 Pred is not the best for that as it has no mineralcoricosteroid (florinef) to hold the salt. So if you feel like you crave salt, go for it. Get some salt tablets, preferably unbuffered (they buffer them with potassium) so you have them handy or just eat a pickle or some chips. A crisis occurs when sodium drops and potassium spikes typically - did your doc give you an emergency shot to carry around? Read up on Addison's sites re what to do in emergency etc.
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar n tn 5 years old beautiful and full of joy English Setter Mia from the Rescue Shelter. After having her for a few days, we discovered that she has urine incontinence and often leaking while resting or sleeping. She is also unreasonably consuming allot of water, just like she has run for a long time.
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
1608004 tn?1390770990 i forgot to ask at the vet place yesterday about the probiotic but i am sure they have it it is a huge place (of course most things for dogs and horses as cats are a real non-entity here). you can mostly find good things for your cat if you live in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, however,in the north east of Brasil cats are not very welcome. I have moved now to a city of about 2.5 million people so I am hoping things will be better here. anyway sorry for going on but i am so passionate about cats.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
1216899 tn?1288570325 ve already had one surgery for a CSF leak and am going back to California in May for another round of testing to see if it has come back and they can pinpoint it- I dunno if you have this though just throwing it out at you since you are in the process of being diagnosed. Hope you feel better.
Avatar m tn Possibly the medication has made your dog a bit sick at his stomach. Some antibiotics cause side effects of nausea and/or loose stools. Dogs don't like to eat when they are sick at their stomach, just like you or I don't. If his cough is better, if he is active, and if he is drinking some water, then I would just be calm and let the medication work. Keep offering small amounts of food every few hours, and see if he doesn't start eating within the next day or so.
Avatar n tn ve not brushed them as often as I used to. Right now, they eat Iams for small dogs. They are 7 lbs and 12 lbs and are 3.5 yrs old and 2.5 yrs old, respectively. They are healthy; they just don't "shine" as much. Petty question, I'm sure, but I'm curious nonetheless. Any recommendations? Thank you!
1363339 tn?1338771053 I don’t take it regularly because I find it hard for me to balance out between hypo and hyper. I become tired with it. I always try to minimize stress as much as possible, laugh as much as possible, because I know stress make this disease worse and I’ve experienced it quite well if I got stressed out. Is it right that hormone insufficiencies can only be noticeable or come into effect sometime later.
Avatar m tn hes fine and looks great still every1 thinks hes about 6 as he still really really active however probably for the past 9-12 months ive noticed that after hes been laying down he gets up and he has a limp in his front leg he ends up walking if off at first i thaught it was how he slept on it plus we have wooden floors through the house which i thaught may of added to this but after it became more frequent it occured it could be what i mentioned in the title, his sister who was a year younger t
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
428886 tn?1217682034 Some dogs *love* it. There are lots of tablets that you can buy at the pet food store to make the poop taste a bit less inviting. I've also heard of putting Accent (meat tenderizer) in her food. I have one dog that won't eat her own but will eat the other dogs (gag!) I have to give the tablets to the other dogs.
Avatar f tn s a lesson here for all of us, to be honest, and the need to keep a very careful eye on medicines and tablets around the home, ensuring they stay out of reach of our dogs and preferably in a locked cupboard.
Avatar f tn My little dog has all of the signs of kidney failure and I just found out about a product called Tripsy for Dogs that might help, but the company that sells it is closed for the weekend. Would there be any kind soul out there in British Columbia (I am in Maple Ridge, 45 minutes from Vancouver) who would have some? If I could just give her a few doses until Monday when I could either order some or travel to Bellingham to purchase it.
Avatar m tn Hello~First, your friend needs to be examined by the GP, there could be some reasons for this such as Diabetes, urinary track issues, infections, or other issues with the kidneys and/or bladder. There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea.
Avatar f tn The tumor was germinoma. Yes u are right it was the optic nerve. Avatar n tn 300 beef flavored pills for 30.97. I buy this for my senior dogs, 14 an 15 yrs old both large dogs. Great results.
558059 tn?1288550944 I'm surprised Glucosamine/Chondrotin didn't seem to work for her. Are you using the right dosage? I give my dog (who weighs 28lbs) 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondrotin every day without fail. (So you could calculate the correct dosage for your dog's weight, from that.) In her case she had an intermittent limp in her right leg, which was a throwback from a broken leg about 6 years ago. As soon as I started her on the supplement, after about 5 days (!
Avatar n tn Our dog had that hip displshia at 5yrs old and had bad joints since the operation. Our vet said safe for dogs. People, no. 8 is too much.
Avatar f tn I have used a nasal spray (DDAVP) for three weeks, but the bleeding did not stop. I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days?
Avatar m tn Pheno is a brain 'relaxer' for dogs. This is why it works to control seizures in canines. If you ask for a smaller dose, you risk break-through seizures. Obviously asking for a higher dosage would not be an answer. Is your dog on any canine vitamins? Ask your vet about it. That might help the adjustment to the pheno.
4053971 tn?1349358842 Call the vet and find out how much your dog weighed on his last visit. The typical dosage of Benedryl for dogs is usually 1mg per pound of dog. Given 3 or 4 times a day...ask your vet what he recommends. Be sure you get plain Benedryl...( without added decongestant )....The only ACTIVE ingredient should be Diphenhydramine HCI The tablets are very small, and are easy to stuff into a treat. Now, I'm not sure, but I wonder if you could also put some type of medicated lip balm on him...?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has experienced diabetes insipidus? The reason for the test is because I have been extremely thirsty and urinating almost every 1.5 hours a day. I received a copy of the test results. They tested my ADH level (arginine vasopressin) The results are L<1.0 Range:1.0-13.3 They say there are different types of diabetes insipidus, basically that the kidneys are doing what they are supposed to do or a pituitary issue.
