Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp in children

ddavp

Avatar f tn He said something like how the hypothalmus gets in shock at first from the trauma and needs DDAVP, but then it recovers. Now in your case (just as mine), I know what you mean when you say you go to the bathroom alot AND get thirsty when off the pill, as do I. But see, when you urinate ALOT, you will get thirsty...And, it's possible that one on this pill can be urinating alot when the next dose is near, because that dose is waring off. Which means, the retained water, is being released!
Avatar f tn I know that, I have gained 50 pounds in the past four years. When I stopped the DDAVP, I dropped 15 in 10 days. When I went on the water pill I dropped 10 in seven days. But that came back again when I stopped the water pill. It was a double edge sword, it made me feel thirsty because I was going so much. I can loose or gain up to 7 pounds in 24 hours and it is really hard on the self esteem button. How did you end up with this? Did you have a removal of a pituitary tumor?
Avatar m tn Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Hello I'm 17yrs old I had a tumor that was attached to the pituitary gland when I was 12 it was removed partially the rest was removed with chemo and radiation due to being attached to my eyes. when I was 15 it came back I had chemo and radiation and it was gone now I had an MRI done and apperantly my doc sees what can be scar tissue or the tumor again. Can some one explain what scar tissue is and if it's in any way bad for me or it's long term side effects please and thank you!!!
Avatar n tn My daughter is 13 years old and has always & still struggles with bed wetting. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 1.5 years ago. Her endocrinologist does not believe the wetting has to do with her diabetes. If her blood sugars are high before she goes to bed we can almost be 100% sure she will have a wet bed, but most times her sugars are in range and she might still wet. She has also gone through many test on her bladder and all is normal.
1216899 tn?1288570325 I did develope a mild headache later on in the evening however. I actually beleive that I had several seizures through the weekend, as a couple of times I had strange visual distubances, with a sense of weird feeling, like I was blanking out. I did get my blood cortisol level back as normal. I'm still waiting on the free cortisol test results. I got a copy of my most recent blood test which was in Feb. and pretty much everything was normal. My sodium level was maxed out at 145.
Avatar m tn I am now experiencing great amount of pain in my back and can hardly walk. I postponed going back to work for another two weeks in hopes to feel better. I am going to take your advice regarding the DDAVP I might be getting too much. I dont think I have had the growth hormone stim test. What is it exactly? a blood test? I am desperate. I really think I need more hormones but can't seem to find a doctor that will. For how long have you had the Diabetes? Thank you for your help!
1363339 tn?1338771053 At the earlier stage of my treatment, the ddavp that I was taking need to be kept in the fridge. Yeah… it’s a hassle. Fortunately, several years later, I got ddavp fridge-free, new formula maybe :) . It’s a great relief indeed. Hopefully they can find better formula for GH too. …..I cured my period thing - got everything cut out. But I am still on those hormones. So sorry to hear this Rumpled. I wonder how it feels living w/o it. DI….they tell me it is temporary... *right*.
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar f tn I have used a nasal spray (DDAVP) for three weeks, but the bleeding did not stop. I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days?
Avatar f tn she will have 4 packets of oatmeal and a glass of milk in the am. Another possible symptom is nocturnal enuresis. She is on DDAVP at night .05 mg X approx. 4 months. If I remember to wake her up around 2am she may be dry, before the DDAVP she was going through 2 goodnights diapers a night... if I didn't change it midway she and the bed would be completely soaked. Anyway, her Thyroid was hyperactive, and she is allergic to Milk and Eggs (she did have hives when we were at the Dr).
Avatar n tn He also mentioned that she might have a missing hormone but more tests need too be done. In the meantime he has prescribed DDAVP, saying that this might help and if it does she will need this drug support for her entire life.
Avatar m tn ive never went this much during the night..i had to go get on some meds called ddavp to slow it down so i can sleep..
Avatar f tn The medication used for this is called Dessmopressin or DDAVP. It is available in a pill form, nasal spray or injection. There are a few other conditions that can mimic this so it is important to get it ruled in or out. I have this and without medication I am also up every half hour drinking and peeing.i rec that you see a neuro endo to rule this out, your other pituitary hormones, and have a current MRI. It may be as simple as taking a little pill every night to help you to hold onto fluids.
186737 tn?1269884660 What can cause impaired left ventricular relaxation in a 40 year female who is thin, not diabetic, and not hypertensive? She has EDS and POTs, and symptoms of carcinoid syndrome, but octreotide scan showed no carcinoid tumors. A subtotal colectomy that was done about 4 months ago psthology found a carcinoid tumor just under 1 cm in size. Her pulse and BP vary greatly between standing and lying down. Standing pulse is ~150-180 and when supine sometimes is ~ 40-50.
1608004 tn?1390770990 I have worked (volunteerd) for the past year with a woman in another city helping her with her cattery. she takes in abandoned, unwanted, abused, dogs and cats so I have a lot of information bottled up about caring for cats. she had 3 different vets who help her out by giving her very good discounts on spaying/nutering and giving her meds so I learned a lot of what you can do for cats just by helping her out. :-).

1980489 tn?1326255851 The symptoms are the same in adults as in children - but keep in mind that not every adult has every symptom and neither does every child. I had it - and we all present pretty differently even though we are the same? Muscle fatigue means that exercise is pretty much a disaster - and the fatigue is overwhelming.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
454366 tn?1211245301 Please read the info on www.jonbarron.org on Bi-Polar disorder in children. The info is kinda scary; but I think you might help with finding other avenues to take. Peace be with you and keep the faith. Our kids are our future. Let's not just dope them up because we are told to. Let's not dope ourselves up either.
Avatar n tn I adopted an 11 year old girl she has a prescription of -5.25 in one eye and -6.25 in the other. (An increase in prescription of about -.75 in each eye over the year before) How much worse is she likely to get before her vision stabilizes?? Is her vision likely to keep her from driving when she comes of age??
