Avatar m tn Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet. Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs. Best Wishes for you and your dog.....
Avatar f tn She has quickly moved to Stage 3 kidney disease. We originally attributed her failing kidney function to her food. We have been feeding her gluten free food because of her allergies, but they have a high protein and sometimes higher sodium and phosphorus content. After reading countless labels, we think we have found the best combination, but her kidney function continues to decrease.
Avatar m tn Well, for starters I suggest you study the list of side effects for cyclosporine to see if those help explain your symptoms. Physical fitness is something I urge you to work on improving so far as readily managed, even if it seems bothersome. Your eating / lowered blood pressure suggest to me you could try reducing your meal sizes (perhaps increase the number of meals/day if you're at a healthy weight).
Avatar f tn The side effects of these medicines are to be taken into consideration and they are prescribed only when benefits seem more than the side effects.Side effects of cyclosporine include nephro(kidney) toxicity, infections, high BP,seizures,endocrine/metabolic conditions and lymphomas. You are right in saying that the incidence of allergies are rising day be day.
Avatar m tn Could taking less ursodiol have contributed to my diminishing symptoms. What would be the lest acceptable through cyclosporine level for a patient on mono -therapy four and one half years post transplant with no episodes of rejection? Thank you so very much Dr.
Avatar n tn In an additional 33 patients, glomerular and tubular NEP protein levels from renal graft biopsies were significantly higher among the 13 patients receiving cyclosporine + EC-MPS than among the 12 patients receiving cyclosporine + azathioprine or 8 patients receiving cyclosporine alone. Glomerular NEP expression inversely correlated with glomerulosclerosis and proteinuria, and tubular NEP expression inversely correlated with interstitial fibrosis.
1054753 tn?1339968724 After cyclosporine was introduced, liver transplant recipients began to do well, but soon the recipients and medical teams noticed many side effects of the immune suppression ranging from infections to kidney injury to increased risk for certain malignancies. For these reasons (and others) there has been a lot of focus on reducing the level of immune suppression as much as possible while still protecting the liver graft. So what happens when immune suppression is decreased or even stopped?
Avatar m tn Close to five years post liver transplant. No rejections, cyclosporine mono -therapy .Also take 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for bile duct stricture. Vascular hyper-tensions are becoming a real concern. ie heart, palpitations . fluid in ears , vision problems that aren't related to my actual eyes, the opthamologist confirmed, Migraines that have actually gotten better lately. kidney function is still adequate. My liver is doing very good especially with hep-c..
Avatar n tn My little Maltese has Cushings Disease. He gained 6 pounds in a little over a month and drank and ate constantly. The vet put him on Lysodren - - and very little! He only gets 1/4 of a 500 mg pill twice a week and he has already dropped the weight and eats less and doesnt drink quite as much. One morning he had green gunk in one of his eyes and it was stuck together. I held him with a warm wet cloth over it and then it seemed OK.
Avatar f tn Thank you Tony for your replay. I have blood values from before she was raw feed and before she was daily on Cyclosporine due her Pannus. Crea was 2.1 and BUN was 29. My vet's opinion is that the values are so high sice i feed only animal protein and not vegs. I realy don't think that vegs are not good i only think that dogs don't need them. Thats only my opinion.
Avatar m tn Recently diagnosed with Membranous Nephropathy after kidney biopsy. Supposed to be putting out 150mg/d of protein in urine and I am currently putting out 22,000mg/d of protein. Signs were: ankles swelling constantly making walking difficult, leg cramps when I wasn't swelling and foamy urine. Now that I have a diagnosis, I am on pill forms of Prednisone every other day and Cyclosporine 2x every day.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. For sure your cyclosporin eyedrops had no effect on your test result. You can rely on the engative results. In theory, immunosuppressive drugs might delay positive HIV test results. However, I stress "in theory": there are no reports that it actually happens. And if it does, it would require far higher doses than the amount absorbed into the system from eyedroops.
Avatar f tn Below is one of the medical record of a patient, seek help from ophthalmologist,to see if there is any improvement for the treatment regimen. Thank you very much!!! Admission condition: "Found that elevated blood sugar for more than five years, right eye pain for three months". Physical examination on admission showed the following: general condition, VOD:0.5 (correction). Fundus examination of optic nerve papilla edema, conjunctival hyperemia edema slightly.
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar n tn My oldest son is 32 in July 2018. He was transplanted 30 years ago with the wrong blood type( He is a O with an A Liver) He has been off all medications since he was 17 years old, so for 13 years. My youngest son who is 28 was transplanted 26 years ago. He got large B-Cell Lymphoma at age 7 from his cyclosporine. He went through CHOP chemotherapy and has been on NO IMMO DRUGS and takes nothing for rejection for over 21 years.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis. Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms. If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
686869 tn?1227199935 Acute kidney failure usually occurs as the result of a sudden interruption in the blood supply to the kidney, or as a result of a toxic overload of the kidneys. Some causes of acute failure include accidents, injuries or complications from surgery where the kidneys are deprived of normal blood flow for an extended period of time. Heart-bypass surgery is an example of a situation in which the kidneys receive reduced blood flow.
Avatar m tn I am currently under St Thomas hospital for this, they are stating I should take Cyclosporine for 6 months, I was wondering if someone on here has taken this treatment and it has worked for them??, I am not convinced on this medication as I have read so many bad things about it. My consultant has stated that 70% of people whilst on cyclosporine will be clear, one third will have total remission, one third will be same as before, one third will be worse once the treatment has stopped.
Avatar f tn I took my dog Sadie in to the vet a week ago(9/21). The night before I took her in she was limping and refusing to use her right hind leg. Which progressed in to her not using both back legs and then not walking (within 12 hours). They performed a snap test which came back positive. They evaluated her and said it's highly likely it was ehrlichia because of her blood work and she also had ocular hemorrhaging (mainly in her iris's). Her platelets and RBC were low at the time.
Avatar m tn I know that you said that your dog has been on cyclosporine in the past for the treatment of KCS, however has she ever used a product called 'Optimmune"? It's a preparation that contains cyclosporine but it's different from the cyclosporine drops. When eyedrop preparations to treat KCS are made up, they have stabilizers put in so that they don't lose their potency too quickly before the whole preparation can be used.
163305 tn?1333668571 Cyclophilins are a family of enzymatic proteins that assist in the folding and transport of other proteins synthesized within a cell. Cyclophilin inhibitors, such as Cyclosporine A, have been used for decades for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in transplant patients. Scientists at SCYNEXIS have synthesized derivatives of Cyclosporine A in which cyclophilin binding activity is separated from calcineurin binding activity (which mediates immunosuppression).
388544 tn?1231982494 Based on consistent Class I evidence, pulse cyclophosphamide treatment does not seem to alter the course of progressive MS (Level B recommendation). Based on a single Class III study, it is possible that younger patients with progressive MS might derive some benefit from pulse plus booster cyclophosphamide treatment (Level U recommendation).
1732853 tn?1366758928 I'm on Cyclosporine following my liver transplant a year ago. What did you want to know about it?
Avatar n tn s been on Accupril 40mg daily for approx 7 yrs. Hgb A1-c is 7.4. His kidney function test have been ok except for his latest BUN/CREAT ratio result of 29(the lab using 6-25 for norm). Should we be worrying, contacting a renal specialist and is there anything else other than tighter BS control and sodium intake that we can do?
Avatar f tn I had to quit working last year due to heat stroke and kidney problems. Ive had repeated kidney infections(6-8) a year for 13 years now. I recently visited the ER yet again. 387767 tn?1345872027 Hi, my 14 yr. old cat Tommy has kidney disease. He was doing OK for a while, but went downhill a few days ago. Would not eat or drink, couldn't pee. Got really lethargic. I'm very worried. We took him to the vet, and he's in the hospital. They're giving him IV's and want him to stay there for a few days. All the vet said was that he could recover from this, but he's not sure. I don't want him to suffer. Tommy has had so many health problems.
