705990 tn?1228798007 I was born with Atopic Dermatitis. I am currently 20. The condition, instead of becoming less of a problem, has become worse and worse over the years. More so in the last 2-3. . .In July I was Hospitalized. From my neck down, I was broken out in wounds and rashes I couldn't control myself from itching and making worse. I was infected and in agony. . .Problem being, I had and have no insurance. So I was being seen by over-worked people at a local Hospital.
Avatar f tn Great question. Atopic dermatitis is the name of the condition you are mentioning and the abdomen and feet are often the most common areas effected. At one time we believed that because the grass and pollen on your lawn is the source and the feet are itchy then it is a contact allergy, in fact that is not true. The same pollens are in the air and the condition is due to inhaling the pollen or irritant.
Avatar n tn Hello, I understand your concern for the beautiful child. In my opinion, this can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema. Atopic allergy is a type of immediate hypersensitivity in humans resulting from spontaneous sensitization.Diagnosis of allergies is done by skin ***** or patch tests and confirmation is done by blood tests like RAST. I would suggest that you get these tests done for the various allergens from an allergist.Treatment usually consists of avoidance of allergen.
Avatar n tn t figure out what is causing it and she has been through nine months of various immunosuppressants, hospitalized twice and several months of steroid treatments. Rituximab has been shown useful in Atopic dermatitis, that is Ige mediated. I understand everything is experimental at this point as we have gone through the whole gamut of typical treatments. I don't understand how this could help her as the biopathology is different. Isn't it?
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of cheilitis and contact dermatitis. Firstly,It can be due to vit B deficiency. Give some vitamin B complex for some days and see if his symptoms improve. Secondly, it can be due to atopic dermatitis or eczema("Atopic" refers to a group of diseases where there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever). Cheilitis(Inflammation of the skin on and around the lips)is often seen in atopic dermatitis.
Avatar f tn Pemphigus foliaceus is an autoimmune disease typically treated with steroids to get it under control and then a less strident topical or oral medication to keep the development of new blisters in check and prevent existing ones from becoming infected. Atopica is intended for in dogs with atopic dermatitis, so I don't know how this would be helpful to your cat and could be harmful since I don't think there have been any studies does regarding it's safety for cats.
Avatar f tn It would be fair to say that the Elidel is able to suppress the atopic dermatitis. That is not the same as saying that one can use this drug indefinitely, for Elidel comes with adverse, toxic reactions of its own. I suggest that you discuss this issue with your doctor and that you request consultation for a second opinion from a Dermatologist regarding the best and safest way to proceed with management of your skin disorders at this time.
Avatar f tn Are you being treated for your atopic dermatitis? Have you had a doctor take a look at your hands? Do you use any types of moisturizers on them?
Avatar f tn Hello, From your symptoms it looks like atopic dermatitis. Although steroids, are commonly used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, there are certain other agents also which are used like immune modulator drugs e.g. tacrolimus. These are available in the form of ointments and tend to prevent the recurrence. You can discuss with your dermatologist regarding the right use. There are certain other non-pharmacological measures which are equally important in treating atopic dermatitis.
Avatar f tn My younger sister has been battling atopic dermatitis, an eczema condition since she was 8-9 years old. Although her rashes have come and gone here and there, it usually got better over time. However, she recently rescued a chick from the street and spent many hours in the backyard digging for worms. A day or two after, she broke out with red bumps filled with pus all over her body. Here is a photo of her legs/arm/back. http://image87.webshots.com/187/2/75/70/2211275700050097975pugQpW_fs.

Avatar m tn Two questions: Is the treatment for chronic irritant contact dermatitis the same or similar to what a doctor would give someone with atopic dermatitis (once the irritating substance is removed)? Also, knowing that a case of contact dermatitis usually resolves itself in four weeks, how long might it take for a more chronic case to resolve itself? Thanks for any information you can provide.
Avatar m tn Since you have an Atopic tendency there may be an overlap here.Your doc now can treat you for atopic dermatitis without application of steroids. This would probably speed it up. My good wishes.
Avatar f tn If you had used a new soap or detergent as that does sound a bit like allergic dermatitis. A lot of the time, itching behind the knees and hips could be because of atopic dermatitis. Otherwise known as ezcema. Your itching the area causes the skin to be funky after. Do your best not to itch. I use a balm bought on amazon but also sold in drug stores for itchy ezcema skin. Aveeno Itching releif balm. Works great. This is info on ezcema. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to contact dermatitis, dermatitis skin or eczema patch or atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory, chronically relapsing, non-contagious skin disorder. I suggest you to get it examined from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn org/wiki/Atopic_dermatitis Atopic dermatitis is one differential here. There appears to be an allergic component with atopic dermatitis. Certain allergens have to be considered here. This may include diet. For your child, wash the area with warm water. Do not rub or exfoliate. Use only a mild cleanser in washing the area. Pat the skin dry and moisturize with a light hypoallergenic cream or baby oil.
Avatar n tn to them, so I took him to the vet, afraid he had a sudden case of SARDS. She said no, tested him for dry eye and gave me Cyclosporine drops. I have an appointment with an opthmologist who comes to our town once a month on April 2, but now he seems totally blind. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there any hope for his eyesight? Surgery?? Thanks to anyone who can respond!
502674 tn?1249543704 An atopic dermatitis is still to be considered even if there is no manifest itchiness. Just note for any signs of irritability ,fever, decrease in appetite. If these are present a prompt consult is necessary.
