Avatar n tn Hello Mbhunty. We are sorry to hear about your brother. Are they terming this "aplastic anemia"? Do they have any treatment suggestions for him such as bone marrow transplant. Here is some information on aplastic anemia. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn I just did a quick google search and it said that aplastic anemia could really be a misdiagnoses for Lyme. I was told I had MS and Lupus and other things. I never heard of it happening on all my many support groups so that is why I did a google search. I had to have a bone marrow biopsy when my Dr (who didn't believe in Lyme) thought I may have cancer but the biopsy said I didn't. Perhaps you should retest for Lyme?
Avatar m tn paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, aplastic anemia, thyrotoxicosis hepatoma and choriocarcinoma. Are you from the mediterranean originally or is your family? Are you African American? Did you have a complete blood count done? How high was the hemoglobin F level? Do you feel tired all the time or bleed anywhere?
605877 tn?1301700646 Hello there, I was hoping for some information on eye drops Chloramphenicol and how safe it is to use? I have been diagnosed with bacterial infection of the eyes (pink eye) but have left it untreated for a few weeks as I have a phobia of medicines. My question is am I damaging myself not taking the medicine? And how safe is the medicine because I have read the leaflet and the odds of developing something that starts ....aplastic.....
Avatar f tn Since lymphocytes are made in the bone marrow (a tissue that fills the openings of bones), if not enough bone marrow is produced or the activity of the bone marrow decreases, an abnormally low lymphocyte count can occur. Bone marrow destruction occurs in aplastic anemia. Aplastic anemia is a condition in which the there is an abnormal decrease in the cells that make up blood (such as white blood cells) because the bone marrow is not working properly to make these cells.

Avatar m tn Hi! A low MCH indicates low hemoglobin. Low hemoglobin is seen in low iron, kidney diseases, cancers (leukemias, Hodgkin's lymphoma's, myeloma, and other blood cancers), aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndromes (bone marrow disorders), cirrhosis of liver, lead poisoning, and in vitamin deficiency. Low hemoglobin can also be due to increased destruction of blood or its components as seen in spleen disorders, sickle cell anemia, thalssemia etc.
Avatar n tn I am stopping his Atopica all together because as far as I can tell, it seems like it is suppressing his immune system and not allowing him to fight this infection for the past three weeks. Can a bacterial infection in the blood cause anemia? Does this sound like cancer to you or just a bacterial infection that caused anemia? In your opinion will the stopping of the Atopica and the addition of the Baytril help him and will the cbc show that in just 4 days?
Avatar m tn Hi! I am sorry to hear about your mother suffering so much! It appears as though she has lymph nodes through out her body including chest (mediastinal lymph nodes). I understand she has had many investigations done but please check if the following have been ruled out: Tuberculosis (through sensitive ELISA test), cancers of lung, esophagus, lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, cystic fibrosis, and histoplasmosis. A PET scan may be diagnostic.
Avatar m tn Hi! If you are more prone to getting cold, then you could be either having allergic rhinitis and sinusitis or you could be having a high eosinophil count. Since you also have anemia, you should get a stool test to rule out worms. Worms increase the eosinophil count and also can cause anemia.
548725 tn?1304071326 I stopped taking this medicine and consulted MIM. They say Flouxetine may cause Aplastic Anemia (Bone Marrow Failure). For fear of this fatal disease I don't take it any longer.
Avatar m tn my girlfriend is suffering from aplastic anemia and we have never had sex For the past 3 n half years. since her health is improving with the treatment finally we did it. we copulated for the first time yesterday(the very first). she is on DEVIRY which is a Medroxyprogesterone tablet and also SEVISTA which is a Ormeloxifene tablet(which she is taking 2wise a week). but i inserted "unprotected" ..but almost after 30 secnds i removed realsing my mistake..
Avatar n tn Less common side effects include cardiac arrhythmias, blurry or double vision and/or the temporary loss of blood cells or platelets and in rare cases can cause aplastic anemia. The symptoms you are experiencing may be due to the effects of your medication. However, before starting or shifting to new medication, I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor first to avoid any adverse effects or seizure brought about by changes in medication. Take care and regards.
539209 tn?1225972263 I am not aware of any of these drugs causing anemia but I will look into it for you. Are you taking iron supplements for your anemia or a prescribed medication? I have been diagnosed with anemia also since I have been taking pain meds too so this could be like the questions regarding dental problems while on these meds.
Avatar n tn Without adequate iron, the body cannot produce enough hemoglobin for red blood cells. The result is iron-deficiency anemia.
Avatar f tn You could be iodine defeciant do you have anemia? What type of blood work have you had done? Your blood work if complete can check for cancer anemia and vitamen deficiancy Iodine and b12 defeciancy could cause symptoms. My sister in law had similar complaints and had vitamen deficiancy. Do you have a genetic history of disease and medical conditions. Get you medical records together and talk to doctor. You should look into Autoimmune problems.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. Your symptom of nose bleeds may also indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. The bleeding can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents.
Avatar n tn Hello. From time to time I get what i think is an allergic reaction to something (doctor's don't know what and neither do I beause the blood test does not show any allergies). I think it's an allergy because the part of the skin starts to itch. When I scratch it it small red spots appear. A couple days later the small red spots turn into slightly larger redish purple spots. These are usuallly concentrated in one area, e.g. chest or arm.
Avatar n tn Although anemia and deficiency of vitamins C, K, B12, or folic acid are the common causes of easy bruisability, but aplastic anemia, leukemia(a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal proliferation of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes), SLE, bone marrow disorders, liver diseases, vascular or platelet disorders are other important causes.
Avatar n tn I was switched to cyclosporine and Myfortic. When the Incivek was started my cyclosporine was dropped to 25 mg once per day due to their interaction. Due to my previous non-response and to the multiple variations of the HCV I carry my odds were considered to be about 30%, maybe 40% at best. At the end of week 4 the HCV RNA was not detectable. The only additional side effect is that the anemia came quicker this time. I will start Procrit injections probably sometime this week.
Avatar n tn “Low white cell counts are associated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, leukemia (as malignant cells overwhelm the bone marrow), myelofibrosis and aplastic anemia (failure of white and red cell creation, along with poor platelet production). In addition, many common medications can cause leukopenia (see below). HIV and AIDS are also a threat to white cells.

Avatar m tn and the vet will probably prescribe cyclosporine drops to help the eye produce more tears. Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet. Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs. Best Wishes for you and your dog.....
Avatar f tn My sister's dog, Charlie, has been in an ER clinic for a week now... He just turned 9 and is a powderpuff Chinese Crested. He was taken to the ER for severe shaking and a high fever... They ran all the necessary tests - he doesn't have cancer, he may has the equivalent of aplastic anemia (in humans), but the bottom line is he has extremely low white blood cells and his reds keep dropping... He has had 4 blood transfusions and 2 bone marrow tests.
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
