When there was no sign of decrease in SGOT/SGPT levels the doctor ordered the HCV quantitative test which was 12100000 as mentioned earlier. When i asked the doctor concerned he told us that virus got reactivated during the Immunosuppresant therapy. He told us to wait till the cyclosporin is stopped.
The only problem was that my IGE had to be below 3000 for it to be even effective, my current level was 12,000 at the time. So, as months passed I kept using cyclosporin attemptin to bring down my IGE levels. During this time I also began to research Xolair and eventually found out that Xolair had side effects of heart failure and after discussing this with my dermatologist I wisely decided not to use this.
Post BMT on her discharge on December 22, 2009 she had SGOT/SGPT levels of 47/49. She was doing well. Vitals were all good. She was taking cyclosporin dosage of 100mg BD, which was increased after 10 days(January 4, 2010) to 150/100mg bid . her SGOT/SGPT level started rising from December 28, 2009 they started fluctuating till Feb 8,2010. After Feb the SGPT levels shoot up and it was highest of 218/398 on March 22, 2010.
Had silver nitrate treatment x 2. Now am on 1% Cyclosporin, which burns like acid. Nothing has even begun to work.He said the next step was to have ocular surgery where the mast cells are literally scraped off, but he said it's not always successful.
I continue to have extreme photophobia and feel like I have gravel under my eye lids. Please advise as to treatment, as am one miserable and discouraged woman.
There are two other drops like Restasis, xiidra which patients do not like and is very expensive and Cequa which is same medicine as restasis but stronger concentration. Ask you ophthalmologist about Restasis (cyclosporin) think it just became available as generic.

Question - has anyone had success in treating this miserable condition? I am so discouraged as feel the photophobia and gritty feeling in my eyes is never going to go away.

During BMT she had moderate veno occlusive disease and she recovered. She was using Tab cyclosporin as immunosuppresant. She had some anomalies in her SGOT and SGPT. Last HCV RNA quantitative was done on March 30 2010 and the result was 12100000IU/ML. LFT results were as given below.

My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Cyclosporin (brand name Atopica) is a relatively new oral medication which can be used as a non-steroid way to reduce allergic skin inflammation and itching. It is helpful in approximately 80% of allergic dogs to control itch. Cyclosporin is given orally daily for 4-6 weeks, then the dose and frequency is slowly decreased to the lowest possible dose needed for comfort.
Significant dose reductions and prolongation of the dosing interval of the immunosuppressant to achieve the desired blood levels should be anticipated. Close monitoring of the immunosuppressant blood levels, and frequent assessments of renal function and immunosuppressant-related side effects are recommended when co-administered with telaprevir.
The use of telaprevir in organ transplant patients has not been studied.

Both my wife and I have very dry eyes and both of us have been on Restasis (cyclosporin) for years with excellent results. I understand from postings from the UK this is difficult to get there.
In 2004 he had quadruple bypass and at the same time, his thymus gland was removed. He is now on cyclosporin and has been doing o.k. He is seeing a neorologist in Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa. What I am wondering, is if there is any way to test the levels of antibodies in his blood to see if the thymectomy has reduced the levels. His neurologist states that there is no way to tell.
The ER doctor diagnosed me with Herpes Keratitis yesterday. I had been taking Restasis(Cyclosporin eye drops BID) and had many of the symptoms of side effects of that drug including low neutraphils, redness and swelling of eyelids, itching, feeling of foreign object in my eye, pain on administration of drops.
I believe this is a drug reaction not Herpes Keratitis. What do you think?
He is on Prednizone and Cyclosporin. She raised the Cyclosporin level to 800mg twice a day. When she raised his meds before, he started turning jaundice. Now at 800 mg twice a day he has become more jaundice. She refuses to change the medication or even think that it could be the medication causing this. How can tell if it is the medication? If it is, how can I get her to change the medications? What can I do?
I would suggest a trial of cyclosporin (Restasis) as it is much safer long term because of the steroid side effects of cataracts, glaucoma and cornea infection. Not in some cases it has lasted 30-40 years and is more commin in females.
So you are probably asking for trouble continuing to wear contacts. You should place yourself under the care of an ophthalmologist Eye MD that specializes in cornea and external disease.

The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13). I hope they can find an antibiotic to kill the infection, and do not take antibiotics unless the infection is definitely caused by bacteria because treating a sinus "infection" when it is a cold virus or allergy causing the congestion will lead to drug-resistant infections. I am a retired EMT-Intermediate.
diquafosol is an eyedrop for dry eyes. It was approved for use in Japan in 2010. It is not available in many countries including the USA. So I have no experience using it nor do I know how it can be obtained in the Philippines. You would likely benefit from getting several other opinions about your problem including one from a specialist in cornea/refractive surgery. Also use the search feature and archives and read the many posts about dry eye treatment.
i got my jack russell in april 2008in september she developed a skin condition and started atopica( cyclosporin)2009 i took up a carpet in my hall after locking a stray tom cat in to my house(he sprayed all over my carpets) my dog collapsed and appeared to have been poisoned. my vet gave her cpr iv steroids and fluids over night and 12 hours later was completly normal.
2 weeks later i picked up an airfreshner sprayed it once and my dog collapsed again.
