Is Cyclosporin a steroid ? My consultant has advised against steroids previously as I had Herpes Simplex Keratitis a few months ago which she said steroids could stir up again. The HSK was very painful and definitely don't want that again although she has warned ne it can reaccur.

Importantly here is your daughter currently has minimal liver damage and will be having iron chelation therapy to prevent fibrosis acceleration. The BMT was succesful and that aspect of her health is under control . As time passes, the only thing that will confirm the presence of active HCV is an HCV RNA by PCR.

Cyclosporin (brand name Atopica) is a relatively new oral medication which can be used as a non-steroid way to reduce allergic skin inflammation and itching. It is helpful in approximately 80% of allergic dogs to control itch. Cyclosporin is given orally daily for 4-6 weeks, then the dose and frequency is slowly decreased to the lowest possible dose needed for comfort.
Also, as a result of being on such a high dose of cyclosporin I tended to feel very sick for 2-4 hours after taking the medicine (fever like symptoms). If I did not carefully avoid sick people I would become extremely ill and even at one point was hospitalize for 4 days because my immune system grew so weak. Infections began to appear on my legs over time and I began to take antibotics along with the cyclosporin.

Both my wife and I have very dry eyes and both of us have been on Restasis (cyclosporin) for years with excellent results. I understand from postings from the UK this is difficult to get there.
He told us to wait till the cyclosporin is stopped. When the cyclosporin was stopped, we waited for 45 days and had a HCV quantitative done. It was 1420000IU/ML ie 88% less than the last test conducted and SGOT/SGPT levels were 60/109. I had also gone through some articles on HCV which stated that out of 100 people who gets infected, 15 will get rid of the virus without any treatment.
Our moral support is a big support such patients who have social sigma. I remember when I had doubt over my being HIV positive when I experienced some early symptoms related to HIV in my body and it were you who encouraged me to get tested. Since i have gone through this state of fear and i can understand the gravity of problem. Thus we all need to encourage patients so that they could live normally among us.
The ER doctor diagnosed me with Herpes Keratitis yesterday. I had been taking Restasis(Cyclosporin eye drops BID) and had many of the symptoms of side effects of that drug including low neutraphils, redness and swelling of eyelids, itching, feeling of foreign object in my eye, pain on administration of drops.
I believe this is a drug reaction not Herpes Keratitis. What do you think?
after which I was on regular meds and met a great endo and finally after regular follow ups my levels were Tsh = 0.1, T3 = 4.1 and T4 = 14 in Oct 2012... and then I went overseas for 2 weeks in november and took one strip of thyroxin with me but my mistake that I switched off the refrigerator and when I came back I just switched on the refrigerator, never realised that the tablets were not in "working" refrigerator for last two weeks and are of no use..

He is on Prednizone and Cyclosporin. She raised the Cyclosporin level to 800mg twice a day. When she raised his meds before, he started turning jaundice. Now at 800 mg twice a day he has become more jaundice. She refuses to change the medication or even think that it could be the medication causing this. How can tell if it is the medication? I would suggest a trial of cyclosporin (Restasis) as it is much safer long term because of the steroid side effects of cataracts, glaucoma and cornea infection. Not in some cases it has lasted 30-40 years and is more commin in females.
So you are probably asking for trouble continuing to wear contacts. You should place yourself under the care of an ophthalmologist Eye MD that specializes in cornea and external disease.

The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13). I hope they can find an antibiotic to kill the infection, and do not take antibiotics unless the infection is definitely caused by bacteria because treating a sinus "infection" when it is a cold virus or allergy causing the congestion will lead to drug-resistant infections. She had surgery on 5/5 to remove tumor - included remover of omentum, full hysterectomy, and approx 10 cm of sigma colon removed (since tumor was around this part of colon). 2 small under 5 mm cancer tumors were left on diaphram - surgeon was confident chemo will handle. Otherwise, all cancer tumor was removed. A friend pointed out Mayo Clinic study from about 2006 that looked back at 244 patients that showed significant improval in 5 year survival by removing even under 1 cm spots on diagram.
You would likely benefit from getting several other opinions about your problem including one from a specialist in cornea/refractive surgery. Also use the search feature and archives and read the many posts about dry eye treatment. The current "gold standard' for severe dry eyes is Restasis (cyclosporin) although it does not give "instant relief". The newest eyedrop over the counter for dry eyes is "Retaine".
