I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
Typically, the normal muscle pains will be gone in a day or two. The more severe side effects can last longer. Are you sure the side effects were from the statin as the listed side effects are very common to many conditions. In studies, just as many on the placebo control group reported side effects as the statin control group, about 1 in 2,221.

Crestor is to control cholesterol, have more offen side effects but doses of 10 mg are the lowest , and side effects can be abdominal pain (not chest). So is better to talk to the doctor about this side effects. She is very well medicated but allergic reactions can happen. TALK TO TE DOCTOR is all I can tell.
Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor:

s not a bad thing...it just is...talk to your Dr about the side effects of Trilipix or google it...and discuss with him/her about oral meds along with diet & exercise...I have type 2 as well and I started on oral meds about 5 yrs after diagnosis...now 27 yrs later I am on oral and insulin and my blood sugars are fantastic!!

The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it.
When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
I had all of the classic muscle pains listed in statin side effects documentation. My doctor said it was because of coQ10 and vitamin D deficiency from the statins. She recommended StatinHelp (www.statinhelp.com) that is sold on Amazon. It has really helped with the muscle pains. Statin side effects are never really discussed by the doctors. I found out two years into treatment when I mentioned needing something for back and leg pain to her. By then I was taking 10-15 advil per day to function.
My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
I don't know if these are symptoms of a condition or side effects of some of my meds, so can someone help?
I take Norvasc, Altace, Lexapro, Crestor, AndroGel, Doxycycline Hyclate, and Advair 250/50. I have been on the first 4 for years. The last 3 have been added within the last several months. I also have Severe Sleep Apnea, but I use my APAP religiously. AHI is usually <4, but will on ocassion sneak up to 5.
The FDA has approved Crestor for completely healthy people with normal cholesterol levels.
Under the new guidelines, docs can now give this drug to people with "other" risk factors for heart problems such as elevated levels of C-reactive protein. This was based on a single study funded by the drug's maker.
The plug on this study was pulled two years early the moment they got the result they wanted.

Are you experiencing any muscle pain or any other symptoms? Hair loss is a serious side effect with both those tablets,I would see doctor to come off this tablet under supervision and try something else in its place and deal with hair loss too. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
After statin therapy fails or is not tolerated, it is normal to try ezetimibe (Zetia), which you said did not work. The use of colesevelam (WelChol) is not high, and is often the 'last ditch effort' to lower cholesterol.
Common side effects experienced by people taking Bystolic included headache, fatigue, dizziness, weakness and diarrhea. I have not seen any findings that others are experiencing this side effect. However if you are experiencing joint and muscle pain I would definitely urge you to contact the prescriber and discuss your symptoms. It may be more likely that the Crestor is causing the joint and muscle pain.
I do not see anything here or in the cardilogy forum that indicates research shows COQ 10 is needed UNLESS there are side effects. So why do you recommend them? I appreciate your offer to read your book, but I would hope that your professional opinion could be explained without my having to buy a book. That is why I paid the fee to get an answer. In addition, a heart forum on about.com answering a similar questions says nothing about any conclusive evidence that COQ10 is indicated.
