cracked lips from accutane

My daughter is on accutane and has extremly dry, cracked and bloody hands and lips, and her face is very dry. We have tried many different ointments and other lotions, nothing is working. What do you think we should use?

Face products? Any of those can cause drier lips. I use good old vasoline when mine get bad. I was on Accutane for a while for acne that dried my lips to a crisp and cracked them badly and kept gobs of vasoline on them. There's nothing better than vasoline! AND it's cheap. Good luck!

Is this a side effect from the accutane? Does anyone know how to treat this rash? I never had this before.

sore throat& neck muscles after 2 weeks, but sore throat I have almost everyday from that time After 2 weeks and 7 weeks I did hiv test and it come back negative. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women. Avoid cosmetic procedures such as laser treatment whilst on Accutane and for 6 months afterwards due to the increased risk of scarring. Use bland cleansing and moisturising treatments, I recommend Eucerin, Lutsine and La Roche-Posay products.

However my extremely flaky/seemingly dry lips remain. Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis? I had the flaking on the lips before accutane but i was also using 400 mg a day of doxycycline for 4 yrs. prior to accutane so that could have been causing the dryness?

Every time I get cracked lips, and it is often, I think I am getting dehydrated. There are a lot of days in the winter that I just don't feel like drinking water and I think it takes a toll on skin and lips. I use Bert's Bees too and it helps some but I mainly have to refocus on the water.

I've only been on Accutane (actually, a generic brand of it) for ten days, and I experienced my first migraine on day 9. My experience with Accutane was not a pleasant one, there was severe drying of the mucous membranes and constant thirst and cracked bleeding lips, dry eyes, and depression. Accutane can be a very dangerous drug. It can cause birth defects and I was required (and believe that it is still required) to have a pregnancy test done every month to be eligible for the medication to be refilled. You should also have a liver panel run before and during treatment.

My 15-year old son is in his 4th month of Accutane. He just completed his 3rd day of football practice and is experiencing severe pain in his hips. He insists that the pain is not muscular. (He is an avid cyclist and has ridden over 100 miles on his bicycle and competed in Olympic distance triathlons, so he understands muscular-related pain.) So, what could be causing the hip pain and/or do you think that there is a high probability that it is related to the Accutane? Thanks.

I have experienced a mild form of eczema on my lips for some time now. I was treating it with Protopic ointment. It seemed to work for a while, as long as I was using it every day. However my question involves the inner part of my bottom and upper lip. It forms a rough whitish skin that compels me to bite at it or pick at it. Is this rough white skin (that appears to be dead skin by the way) part of the eczema that is affecting the part of my lips on the inside of my mouth?

This is normal from what my dermatologist, she said your skin goes back to normal after treatment. I did notice it more once k ran out of my cerave sa cleanser which helps with exfoliating. I think I’m gonna give it a go and see if it helps at least a little. I would also recommend even if you aren’t going outside find a moisturizer that has spf so it because second nature to putting it on. Sun rays come through windows too. Hope this helps anyone going the same thing.

Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
