My 10 year old son has just been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We are in the "working poor" which means living paycheck to paycheck with insurance. I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
