Common Questions and Answers about Coronary angiogram images

angiogram

Avatar m tn It gives the best information about the condition of the coronary arteries (x-ray images from different directions but also arterial pressure drop in case of stenosis, etc. It also allows for direct therapy (ballooning, stenting). For most cardiologists an angiogram is a routine examination with little risk. Complications occur in about 1%. Most of them are bleeding issues after the procedure and are normally easy solved.
Avatar n tn how do i intepret an angiogram result? to know which is left or right? how to know if there is a block?

Avatar m tn If these tests indicate you have coronary artery disease or you have severe symptoms, your doctor may recommend a coronary angiogram to evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease and the exact location of any narrowing or blockages. Do you have severe chest pain (angina)?. Is medication ineffective to treat symptoms? You may want to google COURAGE study before you have a discussion with your doctor. It will give you an insight of the appropriate treatment for coronary artery disease.
Avatar m tn I'm 43 years old, went in for a heart screen that included coronary calcium score, LAD 187, LCX 152, RCA 885, total 1224 (YIKES). I am asymptomatic, excellent lipid panels and BP. I do have a family history heart disease and am overweight. I ended up doing a CPET with the following results: STRESS EKG PORTION: Patient underwent Persantine PET protocol for 4 minutes and heart rate rose to 55% of the maximal age predicted heart rate. Stress EKG portion was non-diagnostic for ischemia.
Avatar f tn Diffuse Soft plaques seen in mid RCA causing moderate narrowing of its LUMEN.Catheter Coronary Angiogram Recommended. No other significant abnormality Now my father is adamant for not having catheter coronary angiogram done. Would 2D Echo - cardiogram with doppler help. He takes walk and has medicines prescribed by cardiac regularly alongwith ayurvedic medicines. PLEASE HELP!
17389007 tn?1456248518 Do you mean to say that you do not want to have the angiogram or that an angiogram can not be done because of the risk?
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
976897 tn?1379167602 In my last hospital admission, I was speaking with a Cardiologist before my emergency Angiogram. I asked if the catheter could be put through my radial artery rather than the femoral. He said that it isn't a problem even though I've had a Cabgx3. When I got to the Angio-suite I was told "you cannot have anything except the femoral artery used because we don't have images of your bypass and we could take a wrong turning". Personally I find this crazy.
Avatar n tn This test shows how well blood flows into the heart muscle and can detect narrowing of the coronary arteries (coronary artery disease). Appropriate for vessel occlusions...ischemia that may cause angina (chest pain). I recently had a CT angiogram (64 slice), and my insurance paid without prior approval. My insurance is correlated to medicare coverage and having prior heart issues may be a consideration.
Avatar f tn It is reassuring that your heart function is normal (EF 72%). Usually a finding of TID leads to a recommendation for a coronary angiogram (left heart catheterization) to determine if there are any significant blockages in your coronary arteries that should be opened with stents or bypass surgery. Your cardiologist will help you make the decision regarding the appropriate next step.
Avatar m tn You definitely need an Angiogram now to get clear images of the individual coronary vessels so a plan of action can be decided.
Avatar n tn An angiogram can be with a cath (invasive...probe the coronary arteries) or an angiogram can be the Modern CT angiograms that uses multiple detectors to capture images from different rotations of the CT scanner. These machines use 64 detectors or scanners which helps in reducing the scanning time and increases the efficiency to a high level. There may be a slight risk of cancer due to excessive exposure to radiation. But the advantage of a correct diagnosis outweighs this risk.
Avatar f tn ) Stress spect cardiolite images decreased cardiolite uptake in anterior and inferior walls. Spect cardiolite scan was positive for moderate amount of ischemia of anterior and inferior walls. Comments: 1. Anterior defect/possible soft tissue/breast attenuation artifact, 2. Inferior defect/possible soft tissue/breast attenuation artifact, 3. Consider PET viability/ischemia.
Avatar m tn It is difficult to reach a concrete diagnosis via the Internet but you describe a comprehensive evaluation which has shown no definite signs of heart disease. The coronary CT angiogram which was used to evaluate the blood supply to your heart is a good test for showing impaired blood supply and this was normal. If you continue to have exercise related chest pain, you can discuss the possibility of getting a coronary angiogram with your cardiologist.
Avatar n tn an angiogram is the images taken using a catheter, injecting radio isotopes into the blood vessels to show up on an imaging system. As I've said before, all procedures carry some element of risk but some are obviously much lower than others. Angiograms are about the lowest you can get, but by law you have to be warned you could end up with a stroke or other organ damage if some plaque is knocked out of place.
1491262 tn?1288413065 The Doctor wants to have a CT scan or angiogram taken of the coronary arteries to see exactly where the blockages are, and how large. From the results shown in those images, he will be able to decide on the best options for your husband. Once he knows the severity of the situation, he will be able to decide the best option by laying risk against benefit. For example, he may decide to continue with medication.
1645754 tn?1301146675 Final diagnosis from my coronary angiogram report are as follows. #normal coronary arteries . #good lv systolic function #bilaterally normal renal arteries If it is then what could be cause of my diastolic dysfunction?
Avatar m tn In the end, when it comes to actually reaching a determination as to whether or not you have diseased coronary arteries, the nuclear cardiologist lines up images of your heart which have not been placed under stress, then compares them against images after yout heart was stressed.
Avatar n tn You would need a stress test or a CT scan of your heart ( 64/128 Slice Coronary CT angiogram ). Make an appointment with a cardiologist. Why do you think you have a clogged artery?
Avatar m tn Many cardiologists seem to prefer angiogram. I've had both a ct angio and an angiogram and I didn't feel any difference between the two. I still had the same burning sensations from the dye etc in both procedures. I did look at the images from both scans and the angiogram shows everything in real time, actually working. You see the blood flowing, you see the heart pumping and you see the reactions of the arteries. With the ct angio all I saw was a set of still pictures.
Avatar f tn The angiogram will show the cardiologist where the blockage is and give him a good idea of the best way to treat it. Maybe it will be an easy job of inserting a stent, or maybe he will decide a better option is a bypass. The overall picture of all your coronary arteries will be seen and a long term decision will be made on those images.
Avatar n tn So they saw abnormalities and yet say you are ok? how odd. It seems odd how the stress echo detected ischemia in the back of the left ventricle, yet they say it's ok. To have witnessed this in the test, they would have seen the left ventricle motion is not normal, they wouldn't have been able to see inside any coronary arteries. The angiogram has identified the reason as a restriction in the circumflex.
Avatar f tn Three dimensional, multiplanar and curved reconstructions were performed through the coronary arteries are studied. Appropriate 3D images were made in to demonstrate the pathology. Report: --------- The coronary arterial calcium score is 533. The coronary arterial system is right dominant. The left main coronary artery (LMCA) reveals thin soft plaques with no significant stenosis and trifurcates into left anterior descending (LAD), ramus intermedius (RI) and left circumflex (LCx).
