Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure images

angiogram

Avatar f tn By any chance do you know if there is a significant difference in the number of images for an angiogram without stents vs the one that would have two stents? The hospital said that there are 6 discs for an angioplasty (2 stents) but only 1 disc for just the angiogram when they didn't place any stents. Thanks!
Avatar f tn If the angiogram is not with a cath (invasive), what is going to be the procedure if the non-invasive test is positive?...it would require an invasive procedure. But if your mother's symptoms can be successfully treated with medication, there may not be a need for any procedure. I have blockages of coronary vessels (LAD completely blocked and another 72% blocked), I have been successfully treated for the past 6 years and no chest pain, etc.
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar f tn An arteriogram/angiogram is procedure with contrast dye to establish whether or not there vessel stenoisis (narrowing) that may effect the blood supply to specific heart location. The arteriogram can be an interventional procedure (cath moved through femur vessel) or non-intervention with CT scan that takes images. What procedure have you had to determine ischemia (low blood supply) to the heart's apex of a heart wall? Do you have symptoms for the ischemia?
685584 tn?1227113800 If you could give me your opinion I would greatly appreciate it. They want to do a cardiac cath/angiogram. This is going to take place this Mon. My father died of arthersclerosis at the age of 55. Thank you again. I look forward to hearing back from you and again thank you!

Avatar f tn I have had a ct scan angiogram and cath. My ct scan was more inclusive as it took images of the lungs, heart and thorax. It showed the complete anatomy of the heart vessels that included any soft plaque within the lining of the vessel. The ct software scored the soft plaque and evaluated the risk of a rupture. It also discloses any hard plaque within the lumen (vessel channel). The cath views the lumen for plaque, and has the ability to determine gradient pressures of chambers and vessels..
Avatar f tn The site provides a definition of cat scan calcium score and cat scan angiogram. I had a CC score and angiogram a couple of years ago. I believe the state-of-art for CAT has scans of 256 slices....provides more detail and sharper images. I find the Mayo Clinic, Minn or Cleveland Clinic to be a good source for medical procedures, tests, dx, prognosis, etc.
Avatar n tn an angiogram is the images taken using a catheter, injecting radio isotopes into the blood vessels to show up on an imaging system. As I've said before, all procedures carry some element of risk but some are obviously much lower than others. Angiograms are about the lowest you can get, but by law you have to be warned you could end up with a stroke or other organ damage if some plaque is knocked out of place.
Avatar n tn Angiogram is when the doctors go up through your groin into your heart, use some dye, and checked for blocked arteries. Sometimes they check the pressure in the valves. A mild sedative is given before to relax you. It will definitely show if there is anything wrong with your heart and it is worth it. If they see blocked arteries they may choose to stent them to keep them open at that time.
Avatar n tn The angiogram is the best procedure and provides the most knowledge for blocked arteries. If needed, they can also measure the pressures in the valves during the angiogram. If you feel you have symptoms of blocked arteries, you should see your doctor.
Avatar m tn Usually with this result, I would think the next step would be an angiogram to see if any blockages do exist and how severe they are. Treatment would then range from meds, to stents to bypass. Was there anything written up as a summary or result? Did you get referred to a Cardiologist?
Avatar f tn Angiogram is any procedure that takes images of the vessels filled with a contrast agent. I had a CT scan 128 slice procedure several months ago. Inaddition to the injection of contrast dye, there is an injection to lower the heart rate (below 60 is the objective). That procedure provides images to reveal any soft plaque between any of the 3 layers lining the vessel as well as any buildup of plaque in the lumen (vessel channel).
Avatar m tn Unruptured cerebral aneurysm can be investigated with cerebral arteriogram or angiogram. A doctor inserts a long thin tube into an artery in your legs and guides it through your blood vessels to the arteries in your neck that lead to your brain. A specialist injects dye into the arteries, which creates a map of your arteries and the aneurysm on xrays. CT can reveal blood flow in your brain and show aneurysm location.
Avatar m tn However the images that they then took showed an inferoapical defect and they are suggesting an angiogram.. She is extremely hesitent to have one at her age. How necessary is this procedure and how do we decide?
Avatar n tn I have had a angiogram 10 years ago and everything was clear, no blockages anywhere. Now, there is slight angina more often than it used to seem to occur, but when I excercise, nothing hurts, all is well. Blood tests are all OK, but the physician suggested the CT scan.
Avatar n tn Went to family physician who was concerned and suggested nuclear stress test or CAT angiogram and gave me a choice. He ruled out blood work to look for enzymes. He told me the CAT would require prior insurance approval and recommended nuclear stress test. Like the EKG's I am sure that nothing will show up on the stress test. Should I save the insurance co pays etc and go straight to CAT angiogram? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar n tn My father is going in for an angiogram. The cardio MD said that he is very conservative and that unless the tests indicate there is a blockage of 80% or more, he wouldn't recommend the stent insertion. This percentage sounds high before action is taken. Your opinion? In lieu of stents, would medication such as the stations and beta blockers be appropriate or other treatments? Thank you. Kathy.
Avatar f tn The procedure is non invasive and develop images to determine the degree if any coronary arteries occlusion. Recommended if there is any chest pain, etc. MVP may not be a problem and not progress, but requires watching. Some individuals have MVP for a very long time without any problems or progession. Tachycardia is a fast heart rate (above 100 at rest) and may not indicate any pathology, but the result if anxiety, mediation, etc. Anything you have stated does not require any surgery.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar f tn ) Stress spect cardiolite images decreased cardiolite uptake in anterior and inferior walls. Spect cardiolite scan was positive for moderate amount of ischemia of anterior and inferior walls. Comments: 1. Anterior defect/possible soft tissue/breast attenuation artifact, 2. Inferior defect/possible soft tissue/breast attenuation artifact, 3. Consider PET viability/ischemia.
Avatar n tn how do i intepret an angiogram result? to know which is left or right? how to know if there is a block?
Avatar m tn A Month later my cardiologist called me to have another angiogram, he had looked at the images, and could see another problem which was possibly missed. My Cardiologist was away when I had the procedure, but his registrar did the procedure. He was confused, because the images showed the vessel fully open, not a single problem could be seen. However, he decided to go with the consultants expertise and did an FFR (fractional flow rate) on the vessel.
Avatar f tn ------------ Axial 0.5 mm thin CT scans were performed through the heart with ECG gating and 65 ml of intravenous non ionic contrast. Axial reconstructions were performed through RR interval. Systolic and diastolic volumes are studied. Three dimensional, multiplanar and curved reconstructions were performed through the coronary arteries are studied. Appropriate 3D images were made in to demonstrate the pathology. Report: --------- The coronary arterial calcium score is 533.
