Hi! USUALLY contractions cause dilation. That is most commonly the way it works, although some people can dilate without contractions, and others won't dilate even with the strongest contractions. The nifedical should slow down the contractions, or at least make them milder. It may give you headaches or make you retain water. Depending on how far along you are though, it could be pretty important to keep them stopped, so follow your doctor's good advice. Congratulations in advance.

I just read some question about not using condom but using lubricant and they just replied that lubricants are also safe to use to reduce the risk of HIV ? is it true ? what kind of lubricant should be used if above is true ? .. So I've been timing my contractions for the last while and they are about 60 seconds long 5 - 7 minutes apart. I expected them to be more painful though? And now my little guy has the hiccups. Did anyone else have these kind of contractions? They are tightening with back and abdominal pain. Even when I adjust positions they are continuing.

This may not be the case if you do not ahve a high pain tolerance and especially with your first as you will not know what to expect. But no matter what when your contractions have picked up speed and not gone away for SEVERAL hours and your demenor is as described then it is time to go to the hospital. If you think you might be having contractions or braxton hicks contractions take this time to think about them and practice for labor.

Yes its safe.. and it works.. ive been using it for 2 weeks 2 orally during the day and 2 at night inserted vaginally with a little hole in them and i have lost my mucus plug over the weekend now not sure how much dilation as in the UK they dont check until your in labour..

My due date was Sept 8, 2014 but my daughter was quite comfy so I got scheduled for induction on Sept 9. At 7:30am I was brought to the l&d room where they set up the monitors and everything. At 9:30 they started pitocin which didn't do much to help dilate me more I was already at 4cm. The contractions were more painful then i ended up being able to handle so i got the epidural. At noon the doc came in and broke my water which made me automatically go to 5cm.

I'm the same way. I'm 40w and the pain in my pelvic area are crazy but my doctor said that's not contractions and those are normal pains.

I'm a ftm. I've had some discomfort in my lower stomach they were an hour apart but now I have the same type of discomfort that doesn't last more than a min. Making them a lil over half an hour apart. Some have some pain with them some arnt to bad. So are they contractions or not? I'm about 39 weeks. And being induced tuesday.

Im not sure if these are contractions, but every time I clean the house and especially while doing dishes my stomach gets very hard and I get sharp pain. The pain goes away pretty quickly but I always have to come lay down. No bleeding or anything unusual while this happens, just pain. Anyone who can help me?

I am not sure if they are contractions. I have them like every 5 minutes or so. Also all day today I been having a clear discharge with a little red on it I don't know what that could mean. ANy suggestions or answers? I won't be seeing the doctor until tomorrow but it wont be my doctor since she was put on bed rest due to complications with her pregnancy which I did not know until today.
