concussion

Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar m tn t walk out of work without holding on to the wall. The third day when I was at home, I woke up, I still had a headache and was dizzy all day and just felt blah so I went to my dr. that day. He did a neuro exam and during this exam he made me walk across the room. He seen I wasn't walking straight because I was dizzy. he said he was very sure I had a concussion and so he sent me to the ER for a ct scan.
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I did Physical Therapy..now doing some exercises at home..sometimes it helps, sometimes not..I take painkillers to reduce the tension and stiffness..but my symptoms are still there..like vertigo with movement, still feeling head pain where I got hit,no endurence left, nausea, neck & back pain gets worst when I exert too much..dr. says it will go away with time.. so my Ques. is - it's been 4 months now, how long these symtoms would last?? will it go away ever??
Avatar f tn Your complaints warrant an MRI and an MRA. An MRA is used to look at blood vessels and passageways. I am a little bit concerned that you may have had a minor stroke last year and may have impending symptoms of another one. When you are nineteen these events are unlikely, but I am painting a "worse-case" scenario. There is nothing really critical about this, but sometime in the next few days would do fine. Of course a consult with a neurologist is in order.
Avatar m tn To whom it may concern, I am currently living in Antwerp and, three nights ago, while having fun with my friends, I got very drunk, lost balance and banged my head against a wall. I didn't lose conscienciousness, although my memories of the event are blurry, probably more due to alcohol, although it could have been a mixture of both. The next morning I woke up with an awful hangover and just stayed resting at home.
446829 tn?1212425523 You can have a bulging disc and post concussion syndrome that happen at the same time or at different times. The INJURY you had may have caused them both, but the PCS would not cause a bulging disc, nor would it happen vice-versa. I took a few notes for you, below, concerning treatment. Medicinenet.
Avatar f tn i have finally decided to quit im so scared though because on top of the withdrawls i know there will so much other emotional pain to deal with so should i go to a treatment center or just do it at home i dont know which woudl be easier
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn not sure what you mean about someone letting me go. this happened at home and I've been home all day. This most definitely doesn't feel like the concussion I had 2 years ago because I remember the hit and the headaches that followed it. I am definitely not overly sleepy. But I have strange tension like headache. i think its retarded for an impact to travel from my butt to my brain and cause a concussion let alone the fact that i just really jumped onto my couch.
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar f tn When anyone hits there head, and has ongoing problems afterwards If it were me I would want to get this checked out by a Dr.,because although might not be serious we always have to be on the safe side. So by what you are saying a check up at the PC. Doctor might be best just to make sure .Remember its been a week so sounds like you need this checked out, and if it gets (worse) before you can see the PC. Dr. a trip to the ER. would be a good back up plan Best of health to you.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone. A concussion injury should never be taken lightly. Prompt treatment is of utmost importance.
Avatar f tn Thanks! I'll take a look at that website!
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.
Avatar n tn when I came home from work he was still sleeping. I am terrifyed that he has a concussion. What will happen if it goes untreated? He is confused, dizzy and won't go to the doctor. He also says he has some pain. should I bring him to th emergency room? help I am scared and don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out. The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
Avatar f tn m a huge WWE fan. Bryan Danielson (ring name, Daniel Bryan) retired this week at a very young age due to concussion problems. He revealed on ESPN that the swelling on his brain has caused him to get seizures. I would love to have a big discussion about this.
Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?
4403156 tn?1354189853 I went to vestibular rehab in June/July, which cleared up the vertigo-like episodes for the most part, but the treatment itself, including the 20 days of at-home exercises made me feel very sick. Everything else remained the same. I was or escribed serk during this time, which didn't help. I was then prescribed 25 mg of a diuretic in August, which helped for a couple of weeks, but I was also on vacation during that period so taking things easy.
Avatar m tn The other night while we were driving home at about 65 miles per hour, we had to stop almost immediately due to an elk standing in the road. Starting the next day, I've had concussion symptoms (headache/dizziness/fatigue/sleepiness/mental fatigue/brain fog/difficulty concentrating/feeling out of it). I did not hit my head, but I did sort of brace it/try to hold it in place while we stopped. Is it possible to get a concussion just from slamming on the brakes at 65 miles per hour?
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar n tn Did your child present with any memory deficits, behavioural changes at home and in school, change in scholastic performance days or months after the event? Was this assessed objectively using certain tests? A concussion may manifest as loss of concentration, dizziness, some changes in learning behaviour that may be evident days after the event.Persistence of symptoms greater than 6 months after the concussion may lead to a postconcussion syndrome.
Avatar f tn Then I had a Cat Scan and was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Could starting weight training so soon made matters worse? No one told me to go home home and rest.
