Concussion mouth guard

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion mouth guard

concussion

Avatar m tn My boyfriend shifted positions in bed last night and his arm forcefully collided with my jaw/chin. It really hurt my jaw initially and it still feels pretty tense with a dull ache on that side about an hour later. I have tmj and that's the side of my jaw that pops in place the most so that of course doesn't help. However, I know habe a headache on that side of my head. Should I be concerned that the blow Could be given me a Concussion?
Avatar n tn Over the counter or prefabricated mouth guard probably generates more harm than benefits. If you can not afford the cost from a tmj specialist, you can place a piece of cotton roll between your front teeth to disengage posterior teeth contact, meanwhile extending your upper neck, (tilting your head backward), this maneuver would temporarily relieve your tmj associated symptom. When financially affordable, seeing a tmj specialist to have thorough evaluation and treatment is advised.
Avatar n tn I had a full mouth restoration 12 days ago. The pain is so servere, I have been taking 800mil ibuprofen every 6 hours! I have had exrays and everything is great. I now have a nite guard, just wore it last night and am wearing it continous unless I'm eating. I had all porcelein crowns, not metal. The pain is almost unbearable. What do i do now?
Avatar f tn I recently chipped one of my front teeth in my sleep and it has a further splinter from my bruxism. I also have intense TMJ and a couple of my teeth are flattening from this. My ortho said my teeth were fine and a mouth guard isnt necessary but I've been feeling like he isn't very good at his job.
Avatar n tn I am wearing temporaries at the moment and they do not feel very un-comfortable, they feel high and I seem to make contact at the front section without the molars at the back touching it feels a little as if I am wearing a small mouth guard. are the temporaries like a mouth guard that you slip your own teeth into? 2932946 tn?1344722012 My sister has TMJD and sleeps with a mouth guard. She says it helps a lot. She also goes to a chiropractor for them to adjust her jaw. When he does her jaw, he only manipulates her mandible, so it may be ok for Chiari patients to try.
Avatar n tn Look up Glossodynia burning mouth syndrome
Avatar n tn s damaging my teeth so after years of prodding, I finally caved and had my dentist sell me a night guard. At the same time I went in for a filling on the top left side of my mouth. A week after my filling, I was having pain in the top left side of my mouth. That was the week I went in to get fitted for the night guard. I told my dentist about the pain and he said it was normal to feel pain a week after a filling. A week later, still having pain.
Avatar f tn She does not use drugs at all, and she is very active in Color Guard - so may get hit in the head occasionally - but denies a recent injury. She saw an eye doctor, all checked out ok, they said no swelling of the optic nerve. She had a CT scan, again, all ok. No other tests were performed, and she was sent home and advised to keep a "headache diary.
Avatar f tn I left and came back and hit him in the back with my color guard rifle and he threw me on the ground again, this time slamming my head into the concrete. I'm only 16 and 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant.
Avatar m tn Hello, just looking for some advice. 4 weeks ago I was playing football (soccer), and was heading a ball when I received a blow to the head - on my right temple. I had to come off. I was experiencing dizziness, headache, bad vision - so I was taken to A&E...diagnosed with concussion and sent home.
Avatar f tn Discontinue the use of over the counter mouth guard is advised. OTC mouth guard yields more damage than benefits.
Avatar n tn thank you, i don't snore at all, unless extremely sick and stuffed up. i should try to get to a dentist, but my insurance doesn't cover it at all... no regular doctor can give a mouth guard right? are there any alternatives? thank you so much for the response!! i really appreciate it!
1891806 tn?1391119037 when I am extremely cold or stressed I notice it more...I was sent for the mouth guard but found since I am now aware of it I can stop it b4 it affects my jaw. I also do not know what to tell u as mine is not like it was and I have not had the need to see a Dr regarding it post op. U may do well to try a mouth guard and to save money start at the sporting goods store and buy one u place in boiling water to shape to ur own mouth....this may help u at night and in turn help u during the day.
Avatar m tn The reason the fitted guards are so much is a lab tech or the dentist has to spend a long time making sure the guard not only fits your mouth, but also balances how you bite. If your bite gets off too much with a nightguard you can wind up with TMJ problems. Most OTC nightguards are also soft plastic, which encourage more grinding/clenching. A dentist made guard is hard plastic, which does not encourage your jaw to grind on it.
751397 tn?1367437548 My dentist told me b4 I went to the expense of getting a special guard for the TMJD to but one of the mouth guards in a sporting goods store...they also mold to ur mouth...and they do not cost as much...if it helps then u might consider having one made. Also , ur dentist can tell if u have it or not or if u r grinding ur teeth as was my case.
4658567 tn?1364142123 Sorry i dont really have an answer for you but im 20 and i still grind my teeth i even put holes in my retainer so soon i have to go back to the orthodontist to get new ones. Maybe the dentist can give your kid a mouth guard or something to wear at night for the teeth. I dont really know but it is a bad habbit especially since i started off pretty young my teeth are filed down.
Avatar f tn I do not wake with a headache. He fit me for a temporary mouth guard which is very awkward to sleep so I only tried it for 2 nights. Today I saw a new ENT. She said the lump was my jaw joint. She thought it sounded like a muscle or joint issue I was experiencing and suggested a different type of mouth guard. I also had a salivary gland biopsy (most painful thing ever) to rule out Sjogren's. One parotid duct did not seem to be producing any saliva. So I guess I am at the wait and see point.
1302779 tn?1287405029 I have mild TMJ which is exascerbated by arthritis, but the mouth guard should hopefully slow down any more wear and tear on the joint. I would recommend a discussion with your dentist about your options.
Avatar f tn My mother is in the 7th stage of her Alzheimer's and started grinding her teeth on a regular basis but won't allow anything to be put in her mouth like a mouth guard and if we were to try gum she would probably swallow it as she seems to swallow everything that she puts in her mouth these days and we have tried to entertain her at the extended care facility - but her attention span is very short these days. Any other suggestions????
Avatar f tn I was told that my particular mouth guard that was specifically made so that I would only be putting pressure on the front teeth instead of all teeth was the thing that caused my jaw to shift and now once again after 17yrs I have 2 disk displacements with and without reduction. I feel that the night guard worked for some time but I grind so much that I grinded through 3 mouth guards in 17years, and they were the hard plastic ones.
Avatar f tn I had that problem for a long time because of grinding and clenching my teeth in my sleep so my dentist made me a mouth guard to wear at night. It helped a lot and I wore it until my wisdom teeth shifted my other teeth and it did not fit anymore. If you have medical coverage I would suggest trying it, if not, try just buying a normal sports guard, it would essentially do the same thing.
1232362 tn?1333135406 ate broccoli w/dinner which kicked off fireworks of pain in face. should i put ice or moist heat on face? even w/pain meds i'm in terrible pain. the broccoli was delicious, though! also: i'm to start lyrica if mouth guard doesn't correct-anyone have any experience w/this-good/bad/indifferent? thanks for any help!!
86075 tn?1238115091 Thought I had a tooth problem but dentist said nope, you got great teeth but you are grinding them. Seems when the body is under stress this happens. Gave me a mouth guard molded from plastic to wear at night which helped. After tox I stopped doing it so much. Still do it too much though.
