Avatar f tn About 2 years ago, she was hit in the head with the handle bar of a bicycle, resulting in 12 staples in her head. They did not do a ct on her but said that she didn't suffer from a concussion. Her pediatrician has said that she can suffer from side effects for a year or so. Is this true? She is having a lot of pain and pressure in the area of the scarring. I am really starting to get worried. I cannot get a doctor to do any scans to check her out.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".

Avatar n tn If someone gets hit in the head with an object like a bat/pistol/something with a hard solid surface.. is it possible to get a brain tumor?? (Sorry if it sounds silly, serious question!
Avatar f tn The radiation from a CT scan is significant and should only be done when necessary, especially in children. It may be possible that your son shouldn't participate in high impact sports anymore. His mental capacity, intelligence and being able to live headache free are more valuable than high school football experience.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!
Avatar f tn Hannah is an extremely bright, creative, athletic and sweet young lady, who did not have any of these symptoms prior to her April 2011 concussion. We live in Ohio and are trying to find the best Chiari expert in our area. We will travel if necessary. Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely.
Avatar f tn I have a history of migrane headaches. I have been in three minor car accidents, kicked in the head by a horse, pinned in a trailer and run down on separate occasions. These have all resulted in mild/moderate concussion/contusion, bruised ribs, moderate concussion/contusion, respectively. I have had pneumonia. I have anemia for which I take a daily vitamin. The cause of the anemia has not been identified, and there was signs of an enlarging spleen.
Avatar f tn Sounds like you might have a concussion. A concussion is a mild brain injury caused by a knock or blow to the head or a sudden change in motion. See a doctor just in case.
Avatar m tn I did a quick web search, and these are the numbers I found for you to call in the Uk...I hope they are correct, and are currently active. This is what I found....I hope it helps. The National Poisons Information Service does not accept enquiries from the public but supports NHS Direct and NHS24 to answer such queries. www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk - 0845 4647 www.nhs24.
Avatar n tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-concussion-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353352 Make sure to tell the doctor about all of the workouts you're doing, to make sure you're not perpetuating the problem by doing a specific exercise. Hope you start to improve!
Avatar m tn I plan to take a HIV test, but the stuff in NHS G.U.M clinic told me that the test result should be known two weeks after test; so I want to seek another similar organization that could also provide HIV test besides NHS,but can give the result faster than NHS, do any British friends know about "Better2know"??? Is it qualified to offer HIV test as a private clinic? Is it authoried by UK government?
Avatar f tn t even disclosed what grade it is, nothing, just that I have it. I feel even worse that I have it in both, whereas most have it in just the left. Am I truly screwed? What do I do? My sibling can't have children due to other issues, just feels like a cruel joke. Does anyone have any information? Please help me!
Avatar f tn What is more scary is that living in England with NHS you assume that if you get sick to this severity that you would be having medical support and some kind of care plan put into place to help and support you.
Avatar f tn As a a positive side effect, I have also noticed that things seem to be moving in slow motion some times. In other words, I see things much quicker and my reflexes have improved. Is this normal ?
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar m tn No NHS clinic in Britain would be using 2nd GEN testing in 2015. If you take rapid test (i.e Insti 60 second), it will be 3rd GEN. Laboratory test (i.e blood test take take's a few day's to a fortnight for result's), the majority now will be using 4th GEN. Reception staff may not know which GEN they use, but all clinicians, nurses and health advisers who work in a NHS GUM clinic would know and be able to give you clear and accurate information.
