Common Questions and Answers about Signs of concussion in young children

concussion

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn It certainly sounds like a head injury to me. The good side of this is, she's young, and minor head injuries in young people can heal better than in adults. You need to have her see a head injury therapist. There are cognitive things she can do to improve her behaviors and memory. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Circling can indicate a stroke, and since there was a head injury, it could mean there is bleeding somewhere in the brain or a bloodclot as a result of the injury that caused the concussion. Chances are, in a very young dog like this, as long as the problem is caught and managed there will be no serious permanent damage, but the circling at this stage of the game is definitely cause for concern. Please let us know what the vet says.
Avatar n tn 5 years later my ears bleed and my vision is now fuzzy i have haemorrhaging behind my eye retinas, watch for behaviour signs for the next couple of years children often become aggressive or non responsive or emotional more than usual if there is something wrong.
Avatar f tn How old is your son? Are these baby teeth or adult teeth? I wouldn't pull any adult teeth unless absolutely necessary. Yes, the wisdom teeth could potentially fill in that space but there are complications with that. As the wisdom teeth come in, they don't move sideways into the space but rather, they tilt in and lean in sideways which causes problems with the jaw bone.
Avatar f tn Additionally, we spent several months airing out a dresser in the bedroom with a fan blowing, creating negative pressure, which could have caused air to circulate into our living space (we did have a window open in the bedroom for some of this time). Furthermore, we have brought a couple of boxes and strollers previously stored in the basement (most of them directly under the asbestos) up into our living space on a few occasions.
Avatar f tn Hannah is an extremely bright, creative, athletic and sweet young lady, who did not have any of these symptoms prior to her April 2011 concussion. We live in Ohio and are trying to find the best Chiari expert in our area. We will travel if necessary. Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely.
Avatar f tn No one can say for certain without it being captured on a monitor but it sounds like you may have some sort of ectopics beats. Maybe a run or some sort of pattern of pacs or pvcs. In an otherwise healthy heart they are not a concern. The medical community deems them normal but most people when they get them don't feel them. That said, it is unclear exactly what you have so you should probably go and get checked out.
Avatar m tn Is vision being messed up on of the first signs or is maybe the sleep or even the sines what are signs of chronic hematomo? Im so afraid of dieing in my sleep or going blind.

Avatar f tn Observed me in ICU for 3 days and sent me home. I have a mild headache with sudden pain in various parts of my head, my stomach is upset and I am exhausted. I was told it was a mild concussion and symptoms could last for weeks, months. Although I never had a seizure I was put on preventative seizure meds. The bottom line is the brain is extremely fragile and complex. No one knows how long it will take for your's to heal. But, rest and I mean a lot of rest, will help immensely.
Avatar n tn Mostly hematomas formed after a head injury soon in case of children, but as your grandson is having signs of concussion or a raised intracranial pressure(most probably due to a subdural hematoma)it needs to be evaluated by a neurosurgeon immediately. An x-ray or CT head is advisable. Pls don’t listen to your daughter as your grandson needs immediate evaluation. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your grandson is doing.
Avatar f tn My step son has mental health issues and we got the support above through the Paediatrician. Medication in children helps to a point but they need to learn new ways of coping aswell, which I'm sure you already know.. I would keep harassing as many people as you can and sooner or later somebody has got to listen! School can help with referrals too.
Avatar f tn My concern is that my husband is trying to receive joint or primary custody of our two children. I am afraid that if this is happening, that my children will be in danger.
Avatar f tn I am one of those children of which you speak. My Dad was abusive and an alcoholic he beat my 2 brothers and sister and Mom regularly. I was too young to be beaten but back in the early 60'sit was hard for a Mom with 4 kids and only a high school education to leave. I for one believe women with children should pack their bags and run if their man becomes voilent. My Dad was in law enforcement in the town where we lived so calling the police was useless.
Avatar n tn You are ascribing adult sexual behavior to a four-year old. That is where you are wrong. She is not indulging in adult sexual behavior, but the touchy-feely curiosity of a very young child. However, you don't want her to display herself or her little friends since this could cause many problems socially. I would tell her that "ladies" don't do that. And make sure she keeps her underwear on.
Avatar f tn Hey I'm young and I am having problems with my discharge signs. Yesterday I went in the bathroom to use it and as I used the restroom I notice brown/red discharge and I haven't gotten my cycle yet. What could this be? I'm so scared and confused !!!
Avatar f tn t anything else amiss, as headaches and nausea can be signs of more sinister conditions. That being said, the symptoms do line up with plain old concussion.
Avatar n tn When they start interacting with outside chldren, they should be forwarned that this type of behavior is totally unacceptable with other children. And they and you could get into lots of trouble. If they require an example of trouble, give them one where they can get taken away from home. Tell this to the oldest as he would understand better. I have encountered such behavior while watching a friends two boys and I just let them go and told her about it afterwards.
