Common Questions and Answers about Concussion exam

concussion

Avatar m tn The third day when I was at home, I woke up, I still had a headache and was dizzy all day and just felt blah so I went to my dr. that day. He did a neuro exam and during this exam he made me walk across the room. He seen I wasn't walking straight because I was dizzy. he said he was very sure I had a concussion and so he sent me to the ER for a ct scan. After the ct scan, the NP said although It didn't show a concussion I do have one and it showed sinusitis.
Avatar f tn That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
Avatar n tn when some one suffers from concussion at what stage shold they be taken by ambulance to hospital. Does that happen if the person has a long period of unconsciousness or just with any unconscoussness? if when they wake up they have a dazed and confused look on their face and then when they try to stand up they loos there balance should they be called and ambulance and be taken to hospital. At what point should a ct scan be done?
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son, Ben, suffered a concussion in April 2008 when he was hit with a line drive hardball in his left eye while playing baseball. The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses.
Avatar f tn I was just concerned that it might be a slight concussion since he had hit hard the whole night and said that one hit made his head feel like it was vibrating :-) I told him to go to the school nurse if it didn't get better in 30 minutes. I just wasn't sure if I was overreacting or not doing enough. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Sorry, but by now you realize it was not a good idea to put those puppies on the bed. The pup can have a serious injury to it's head, neck or spine. I suggest you get it to the Vet fir an exam. There is no way to reassure you.
Avatar f tn After getting hit on the head, you can certainly have a concussion. There are multiple grading scales for concussion. The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.
Avatar f tn Last Aug (09) I had a concussion/neck injury which left me with post concussion symptoms that subsided in Nov. The neck injury has been an ongoing problem with pain. With it has been the rocking sensation that is in sync with my heart beat. Had MRIs of head and neck (shows DDD bulging discs in neck, pinched nerve), Audiology exams (clear), Neurologist exam and Steroid Injs in neck.
Avatar n tn When my husband was discharged from the ER they gave him a paper explaining about head concussion. So we assumed he had a head concussion. He did o.k. for two days and then started being confused and disoriented again. For the most part he seems fine, but today he had another episode of confussion/disorientation and dizziness. Are this symptoms normal? Thanks for any response.
Avatar f tn See your doctor to determine this. I would definitely do that and if nothing else, you have a concussion baseline exam for anything that happens in the future. Again, I don't think what you experienced was just the fall but your drunken state. But you probably did also get a good bang to your head that I'd want to make sure was okay. Let us know what they say!
Avatar m tn Just an update, I have my 7AM Monday morning with Mayo. I had an Eye exam today and had some increased blind spots, but no visible ON. My Dr says it prob in the back of the brain. I did ask him about the ringing in ears changing with eye movement, he was puzzled. I did a little research, its called Gaze-Evoked Tinnitus - and can be present with plastic neural changes. So I guess something is going on up there..
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion falling down my stairs in March of this year. I never hit my head but hit my tail bone hard. I immediately grabbed the back of my head. After a CT scan in ER they sent me home with concusssion. I have had a three hour nueropthamologist exam...didnt find a thing.
Avatar f tn No pituitary tumor. I had a concussion 8 years ago with pretty severe post concussive syndrome after hitting the right lower part of the back of my head, not sure if this could be related. Blood pressure is on the lower side. I’m really baffled. I can’t find anything online other than floaters, but this isn’t a floater. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Avatar n tn He, I’m 16 years old and at the moment I get a lot of headaches. Most of the time the pain is in my forehead and stings. Sometimes there's this pressure to on the sides of my head. I really want to get rid of it because next year will be my exam year. I’m afraid it's going to be a big problem if I'm still stuck with those headaches! I don’t have a very stressful life or something, and I don’t listen hard music or scream a lot.
Avatar f tn I would definitely go to get an exam immediately . You could have a clot form inside your head, could have a bleed inside , or a concussion. So many things. If you vomit that's also a sign of something going on . I mean it's too tricky to know but a doctor would know. My brother had a closed head injury and the day after he went into a coma from a small bleed from a blood vessel that ruptured. They fixed it with surgery but he was in coma for a month..
Avatar m tn I am a 49 yo male without health problems. In April 2009 I suffered a concussion (grade ii) caused by a stupid fall and hit to my head while doing garden work. Over the next 2 weeks after the accidents, I got black circles around my eyes. The 4th cranial nerve (trochlear) of my left eye suffered a minor palsy due to which I have had double vision; this is getting better over time. In December 2009 double vision is 90% corrected.
Avatar f tn We took her to the hospital where they did a ct scan and diagnosed her with a concussion. They told us they found nothing at all wrong with her brain. She went to pyschial therapy to recover from the concussion but her neck hurts daily since she fells and she has blurry vision so the pyschial therapist was afraid to do anything. They sent my mom to an eye doctor where they told my mom her left wide goes further outward than her other eye.
Avatar f tn So, I had a phone consult, my doctor sent me to the ER where they did a CT scan, no bleeding thank goodness, and diagnosed me with post concussion syndrome. After about a month and a half I went back to my doctor who told me he wanted me to see neurologist to make sure nothing else was going on. Throughout this time there has been a gradual, slow but steady improvement in the symptoms, but I am still having problems.
Avatar f tn Suffered a concussion 10 months ago which resulted in new floaters. Saw ophthalmologist (3 times) who performed a dilated slit lamp exam and said retina looks healthy but that I may have PVD. Discharged me and told me to go to A&E if I have symptoms of RD. I also saw 4 different optometrists in the last 2 months, all of whom were confused by the PVD diagnosis. They performed slit lamp exams and OCT scans and detected no PVD.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn My daughter will be 8 in May. about two years ago, she suffered a concussion when she fell on a playground, which knocked her unconcscious. She hit the back of her head on concrete. We went through the scans, and the doctors cleared her, but I started noticing sudden drastic behavior changes.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter has been having "episodes" of dilated pupils, lasting hours at a time, and short episodes of blurry vision, lasting only a few minutes, and also short episodes of very sharp head pain, again, lasting only a few minutes. She does not use drugs at all, and she is very active in Color Guard - so may get hit in the head occasionally - but denies a recent injury. She saw an eye doctor, all checked out ok, they said no swelling of the optic nerve.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
