Common Questions and Answers about Concerta generic alternative

concerta

5757880 tn?1395578022 After spending $186.00 for the generic form of concerta I'm about ready to cry... no, I have already cried. My insurance changed plans to a high deductible and now I must meet a $2500.00 in regards to my son's medication. I have already checked with medicad/medicare, the martketplace and there is nothing my insurance company nor employeer can do. Can anyone give me any information in how I can lower my cost or perhaps is there a cheaper alternative? Thank You!
9003081 tn?1401126498 I have terrible ADHD. Took Concerta for 10 years. For the last two years I have been without it. I am to begin studying for my RN in the fall. I am 20, with no insurance and without the Concerta I just know I will not make it through my classes. What are some alternatives???
Avatar m tn As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Of course, if you have taken your generic version of adderall after the concerta for a couple of days. That should be what shows up. But, I would think that as long as you have the prescription for the adderall, you should be ok.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Sandman, this is what I've bee told. Generic companies have to make a product that fits into a specific area of the brand name medication. Normally, the difference between generic and brand name and generic compared to another generic is nominal and goes completely unnoticed. Someone super sensitive may feel a different though. My son is now on medication for depression (been such a difficult year that I'd love to chat with you about) and I had this concern.
Avatar m tn Hey, I was prescribed generic 10mg Adderall 1x per day by my psych, but when I tried it I felt slightly dizzy with ear stuffiness (the type when you fly on airplanes) accompanied by sharp, inner ear pain (in both ears). This lasted about 1.5 months. Is there anyway to reduce this while taking adderall, and what could it be caused by?
Avatar f tn At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD. He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips. Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...
Avatar f tn diagnosed a few days ago with ADD(no hyperactivity) amongst other things and am taking concerta...36 mg 1 to 2 times a day...seems to be a life saver so far but am uninsured, just getting back on my feet after a nasty divorce and losing everything but my children (Thank God). It is SOOO expensive. I have 3 children (out of 5) also diagnosed which prompted me to get checked..Anyone take Strattera with good results...
Avatar m tn I tried provigil, stratera, wellbutrin, lexapro, celexa, Prozac, paxil adderal, and concerta. Concerta is ritalin (methylphenidate hcl) but the delivery system is different and is supposed to be more effective but it's wicked expensive. My medication doesn't make everything all better for me. I'm not able to go out and do normal things just because I take the pills. I was never able to just do normal things. The medication does make things much easier but it doesn't work magic.
Avatar n tn When it stopped being covered under brand name on our rx policy we switched to the generic. Under the generic Escitalopram0 (10 mg x 2 per day) he got headaches, dizziness, inability to focus the way he should, "fuzzy" feelings. The brand is $275 per month. If there is a natural compound or herb etc could you let us know. I always knew that certain generics would not work the same way. If the only choice is lexapro then that will have to be.
Avatar n tn Ricky had started Concerta at the end of the month of Novenber. He was on 18 mg (btw he just turned 7 and weighs 47 pounds),at the beggining we noticed a HUGE difference, the change lasted until the a week before the xmas break, then he seemed to fall back into his old pattern, attention problems, lost and playing alot with his fingers. So I had a doc appointement a uped his dose to 27 mg.I have this for 2 weeks and another prescrition for 36 mg if we don't see any difference.
Avatar n tn Is he taking 36mg plus 36 mg or 18mg plus 18mg?
Avatar f tn We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
Avatar n tn my son has be on concerta for about 8 months. Yes he focus better but his grades are know different for 2 terms now. He also has been diagnosis, actually the first diagnosis was a learning disability. He also get awards showing compassion and caring etc. on and off meds. His teachers have loved him in their class from jk. He plays travel sports and gets award again on and off meds. O and yes he is very mean on and off meds with his sisters but calms down better on the meds.
Avatar m tn My doctor thinks we may try something else to counteract the fatigue side effects of Paxil, once I concerta is out of my system. Honestly, this experience with concerta has me thinking of to phasing antidepressants altogether. I should mention that asside 50mg of Paxil I am also taking 0.5 mg of risperidon. I thank you again for your very thoughtful response.
Avatar m tn Why not Generic Effexor XR? It comes in a generic now.
Avatar n tn Has any one ever ordered generic Paxil successfully on line? I want to continue with the Paxil but it's a bit pricey.
Avatar f tn Well, see when I switched from Concerta to Adderall, I just stopped the Concerta and went to taking the Adderall XR. After a few months the XR did not seem to work very long or throughout the day. So, in 2007, I went on Adderall short acting pill form which generic form is amphetamine salts or amphetamine mix tabs. With this pill, first of all, it is extremely inexpensive. I pay $30 for 180 tabs 20 mg each. I cut each in half and take each half 4 times a day a total of 40mg.
Avatar n tn s a generic for Celexa? My son was taking Lexapro and asked his doctor for the generic version, and she put him on Citolopram, and it's working great for him as well. I've been told that there is no generic for either, but that the ingredients are almost identical.
Avatar f tn m thinking of the pronounciation right, which was then switched to the generic after my one month sample. After maybe a year of that, I went onto Yaz [the brand name not generic] and was on that for a full year hoping stronger hormones would help control cramps more, with not much hope. But now for the past two years I have been on Seasonique [brand name again] and I am pleased mostly because it allows me 4 periods of year [translates into 4 weeks of hell a year lol] instead of 12.
Avatar m tn Hi All, I posted a couple months back about how I was diagnosed with Adult ADD and my doc starting me on aderrall. I had some difficulties adjusting to being on the med which many of you shared your experiences with me which was a great help. Well I have been taking aderrall about 2 to 3 months. The feelings of paranoia, suspicion of others and rage have come back. So when i see my doc this week he will be switching me to something else.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Unfortunately, my insurance now has a high deductible and the Concerta, even generic, is no longer affordable. He is currently diagnosed with ADHD and there is a possible diagnosis of PDD in the future (further evaluation is required). I was wondering if anyone can tell me their experiences with the Plain Methylphenidate and also the whole "taking multiple doses" a day rather than one pill a day.
Avatar m tn I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. Last summer I started trying different drugs like cocaine, marijuana, pain killers, ecstasy, Valium, Xanex, and my favorite category, stimulants, Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin, Adderall and other pills that I didn't even know what they were (bad idea) After trying medicine for ADHD/ADD and comparing how I function on and off them I realized that I have ADD.
