Concerta for college

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta for college

ritalin

Avatar m tn at CAMHS(Child and adolescent mental health services) I was informed that my son will no longer be eligble to receive prescriptions for Concerta(methylphenidate). This will be due to a large backlog in the NHS and they can only offer support/receive funding for children upto the age of 16. I was told this is nothing specific against us just general policy, so I was wondering where to turn next to coninue the treatment offered?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult a few years ago, and started taking concerta to help me focus in college. I stopped taking it for a while, and about a month ago, went back on the concerta. I take 36mg of extended release in the mornings when I have class or homework to do, and it does help me focus. However, since going back on it, I've noticed that I sometimes can't grasp words. Like I know what I'm talking about/trying to say, but I can't place a word with it.
Avatar f tn He feels like the ruler of the earth and is blind to what we see. If the Concerta is not abused it works well for him, but he lacks the self-control to take it as prescribed. His doctor just writes the scripts. Never does blood test and ups the dose anytime my son asks. We took him to a neurologist and psycologist that was very careful(when he was younger). This doctor could care less. His work history *****. He just got a new job two weeks ago but is into the fourth day of his binge.
Avatar m tn This is too risky for you. You also need to find out if concerta is a good choice for you. As a stimulant medication, it is usually not for those with bipolar. I know that is hard--- but this definitely could be contributing to the issues. Can you call your parents and arrange to see someone back home?
Avatar f tn College students take them for a boost when cramming for exams or pulling all-nighters. Others abuse stimulant meds for their weight-loss properties. If your child is taking stimulants, make sure he or she isn’t sharing the pills or selling them. 1. Adderall 2. Concerta 3. Ritalin 4. Vyvanse 5. Strattera (do not use this, there is a warning on the label for suicidal thoughts) 6. focalin 7. Dexedrine Their may be other but these are the most popular ones used.
Avatar f tn I ended up putting him on Vyvanse 30mg extremely low dose and he has been doing fine. He has been taking Vyvanse for 1 year. I took concerta and ended up going off due to severe headaches. Also, just something that you may want to read is a book called The IQ Answer- Maximizing your child's potential (Family centered action plans to help children struggling with: ADD, Learning disabilities and low academic performance) by Dr.
Avatar f tn Concerta is almost identical to Ritalin.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar w/ Adderall, but my son takes concerta for ADHD. I do know you cannot stop these drugs cold turkey. You should talk to your Dr. and discuss a plan w/ him When my son goes to his dads/ every other weekend, sometimes he doesn't take his meds all wk.end and by Mon. morning he is vomiting, has bad headache, sick to his stomach and diarrhea. I just put it together about 2 wks. ago after reading this forum, that he was having wd's....
Avatar m tn I am a 19 year old male who just started college. I started taking vyvanse since the beginning of August. It has helped alot with my focus and concentration but I get jitters, I have become socially awkward, my anxiety and depression has increased, and the crash I get from it gives me horrible headaches. The crash also makes me not want to be socially active. What should I do? and are there any other good ADHD meds that I should talk to my doctor about?
Avatar n tn My son is 15 years old and for as long as I can remeber he has always been very unhappy & extremely angry. He's been in & out of therapy (counseling) since he was 4 years old. We had NEVER concidered medication until about 8 months ago. My son was tired of not being liked, feeling angry, sad and felt he needed help beyond just counseling.
1756969 tn?1332437163 wondering if anyone has tried concerta for their adhd? i was on a few meds a few years ago but stopped taking them because nothing seemed to work. i am about to try going back on concerta 36mg and see if it will help. i also have depression and am starting a new med called celexa. any info will help. thanks!! not sure what i should be looking for in healthy changes.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 36 mg of concerta for a couple months. I don't take it everyday. I take it on the days I will need it. I hadn't taken it in two weeks since last time when I was coming off the meds I got very sad and cried for five hours about my future. I took it today and felt okay. Until I started coming down. I got the chills and began sweating which isn't totally unusual. But then i became so unmotivated I couldn't leave my room.
Avatar f tn Methylphenidate may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Concerta should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Concerta?
Avatar f tn I notice u r on Concerta as well? Is that for ADHD or for fatigue from fibro? It is a stimulant and addictive..mostly causes a dopamine dump but also contributes to seratonin levels as well. I was diagnosed with fibro as well...do not accept the diagnosis as i feel it is a bit vague. they put me on vyvanse bu it caused me more muscle tightness due to it is also a stimlant. Like Concerta..it is not considered quite as abused as Ritilin, addrerall etc.
Avatar f tn m 19 years old and just got diagnosed, as one would say, with ADD/ADHD rather recently. I was given a prescription for Concerta 36mg to be taken daily. This is the third week taking it and I have been noticing some odd side effects. On days when I take it in the morning and don't eat I feel nauseous and generally off, which I was warned about prior so it doesn't worry me as much. However, I have also noticed quite a difference in my mood.
Avatar f tn Why is my 'shrink' trying to treat my Adult ADD with Bubropion HCL SR (100mg tab 2X a day)? Is this the right med for me? Good grief...it didn't even cut out my smoking. Both of my adult children are on Adderall and are doing fine. My doc keeps telling me that Concerta & Adderall are 'too addictive' ... what the heck ... I am not looking to get high or anything ... I just want to be able to have a med to make my ADD manageable.
Avatar f tn My son is 9 years old and has add. he is on concerta he has been on it for about 7 months now..he gets mad at his brother and sisters easly and he has a problem wetting the bed and pooping in his pants at night is this caused by the concerta?
Avatar f tn s eyes seem to be dialated even in bright light. He is taking Concerta for ADHD and he seems more absent minded than usual. Can the Concerta be causing the side effect of the dialation to his eyes? I mean his eyes are almost completely black with a very thin line of blue around them. I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta.
Avatar f tn Then last year the ex took him in for the headaches and started pushing the ADHD and the doctor gave him a generic concerta and sumatriptin for the headaches. the concerta helped him tremendously with his work but the headaches havent gotten better.
1031310 tn?1259857386 Honestly, I think concerta is a way safer drug for CHILDREN in general who do not have reactions to concerta (and reactions to concerta are very rare). I would not make the same statement about adults... probably both are safe for adults (and reactions are rare). But for CHILDREN, concerta is probably the safer of the two UNLESS these sudden auditory hallucinations really are a result of the concerta and not a result of something weird that happened at a new "church"...
982251 tn?1248781387 My daughter has been on concerta for 3 yrs now and she has facial tics. We took her off now and its been about 4 days, they seem to have gone away except once in away in awhile I see one but mostly 3\4 or more are gone. So I would like to know if they were becuse of the concerta and not touretts.
Avatar m tn Concerta Will Probably Be Better For You. I've Been On Med For ADD Since I Was 5 Years Old I'm 18 Now. My Dr. Put Me On Concerta Coz Of How Ritalin Can Afect Some People It Is An Addictve Drug And Can Really Mess You Up. Ask Your Dr. About What Kind Of Meds If Any You Should Take For ADD. I'm Taking The Max Dose I Can Take Cuz Of My Heart. Your Best Bet Is Go To Your Dr. Best Of Hope.
13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
