1756969 tn?1332437163 wondering if anyone has tried concerta for their adhd? i was on a few meds a few years ago but stopped taking them because nothing seemed to work. i am about to try going back on concerta 36mg and see if it will help. i also have depression and am starting a new med called celexa. any info will help. thanks!! not sure what i should be looking for in healthy changes.
Avatar f tn I know when I was on Ritalin, any form, I was mean, really mean. It was the same with Concerta. Stratara did nothing for me but there are many people that think it its the greatest thing. I have never tried this Vyvance. I have found the one drug that seems to work best so far. I think you need to keep trying until you find what works the best for you because everybody's body chemistry is different. What works well for me may not work well for you.
13415927 tn?1430701518 "Concerta or any other medications like Adderall to treat ADD/ADHD will only exacerbate your other disorders." Not necessarily true. According to Dr. Parker (New ADHD Medication Rules), if you are only treating the seratonin side (depression), you are setting up a seesaw effect that will make your ADHD worse. But, of course, if you are only treating the ADHD side, then for the same reason, you depression could get worse. So in that sense, you are correct.
5757880 tn?1395578022 //www.corepsych.com/2013/12/intuniv-for-adhd-details-updated/ He was on Vyvanse from Sept 2011 to May 2012 apparently without any problems. The Intuniv was then added. It would seem that it might have been the Intuniv that caused the problem in Sept 2013 since he had been on the Vyvanse before. Note: from the following link Concerta 36 seems to be equal to 30mg of Vyvanse, Concerta 54 would be about equal to 40 of V - http://addadhdblog.
Avatar f tn And where they giving drugs for the ADHD and ADD .Because I know there has to be many people out there that where treated for the wrong thing. And that when some one has Seizures it can look like they have ADD AND ADHD and even Bipolar. And the side effects to the drugs they use for ADD and ADHD along with Bipolar can cause Seizures ,since these drugs go straight to the brain and are like speed to young Children.
Avatar m tn Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.
Avatar f tn Did they try behavior management techniques? You can teach some ADHD children to sit down without medications - with reward systems, visual schedules, etc......
Avatar f tn MY SON HAS BEEN ON CONCERTA FOR 7YRS AND IT IS WONDERFUL HE HAS ADHD. MY DAUGHTER HAS ADHD AND ODD, CONCERTA GAVE HER TICS AND FINALLY I FOUND A GREAT DOCTOR AND SHE TOOK HER OFF STIULANTS AND THEY ARE ALL GONE SHE IS NOW ON TENEX AND IS A NEW CHILD. SOMETIME IT IS JUST TRIAL AND ERA TILL YOU FIND THE RIGHT DRUG, AS YOU COULD SEE WITH MY DAUGHTER, AND BELIEVE ME WE TRIED ABOUT 10 OR MORE TILL WE GOT IT RIGHT.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on Concerta 56mg - 72mg on and off for several years. However, recently I came across a study that showed that long term use of the med impairs brain cells so I stopped abruptly. It has been years since I have been completely off the drug and I noticed that I have lost alot of my personality. I used to be so bubbly talkative and hammy. I no longer possess any of those qualities anymore, among other issues and I feel that they may be due to the long term use of the drug.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on Concerta, multivitamins, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. A month later, the PCP scheduled a cardiology check for the Concerta meds; the pediatric cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. None of the other doctors/nurses noticed the arrhythmias on previous exams which surprised the cardiologist.
Avatar f tn Yes, my current psychiatrist had me on the vyvanse and concerta. Concerta wakes me up so if I take it late I have trouble sleeping. However, a specialist in ADHD in young adults (18-25) diagnosed me. I can't remember exactly all my symptoms and if we tried vyvanse alone too or not. But I do remember that my memory and concentration along with my mood were worse on the lower concerta and vyvanse combo than it was on a higher dose of concerta.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the responses! All I did was a google search for how long concerta stays in the system and it was the first thing they popped up. I am new to this so I do not have the experience you do and I know you can’t believe everything you read online. There is just a very delicate dance between my thyroid and taking testosterone that I am working through and I think adding these meds that I am on added gas to the fire. Bad mistake.
Avatar f tn Methylphenidate may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Concerta should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Concerta?
Avatar f tn My son is twenty nine. He lives at home and is ADHD. He is prescribed Concerta. 2X 36mg.per day. He is also perscribed 2X 5 mg. ritalin per day. He took ritalin SR. during high school, but I gave him his meds every AM so he would not forget. His dose was much lower then. Since college he binges on them when he gets the prescription filled. He then crashes and sleeps for a couple of days. He can't see a problem with his behavior.
565294 tn?1216433315 also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
9003081 tn?1401126498 I have terrible ADHD. Took Concerta for 10 years. For the last two years I have been without it. I am to begin studying for my RN in the fall. I am 20, with no insurance and without the Concerta I just know I will not make it through my classes. What are some alternatives???
Avatar f tn mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..
Avatar n tn Went to a psychiatrist for new testing and counseling and prescribed concerta. Concerta was great!...for awhile. Last year at 14 had gall bladder removed. Had adverse reactions to anesthesia (the couldn't get her asleep) after surgery was up for days with no sleep whatsoever. After that paranoid episodes - couldn't sleep, hear sounds, thought people outside. Doctor reduced dosage which DID NOT help episodes and seemed unconcerned.
Avatar f tn He has also been put on intuniv which caused a few really bad side effects and Strattera which didn't do anything at all for him. I have researched ADHD signs and symptoms and I do not believe he has this condition. I've voiced my concern to the pediatrician but he doesn't seem like he wants to listen to me. I have located another ADHD doctor and intend to get a second opinion soon.
Avatar n tn he clears his throat every 6-7 seconds!!!!! When I talked to Dr about it, my wise doctor told me: "He is not doing it while he is sleeping, so IT IS all in his head. ALL of the ADHD medication is going to do the same thing to him. All you can do is keep on talking to him." So this is what happened to us: (I mean, this was going on for a whole year! COuld you imagine?!!!) He really wanted this BMX bike, that was costing a small fortune.
Avatar m tn i have adhd and have been on concerta for 8 years and i have had many symptoms from it. while on the medication i had loss of appitite, headackes, soreness, mood swings, thoughts of suicide, couldnt fall asleep, depression, and anger. but when i try to come off of it i suddenly became very hungry all the time, weak feeling, and couldnt control myself at all. what is causeing this to happen and how can i make these symptoms stop so i can finally come off my medication?any info is appreciated.
Avatar n tn and my son is not on anything for his adhd because for 1 I would never put him back on after what we have been threw and the doctors say the medicine can mke the seizures worse then they are already. I would never want any one to go threw what we have.
Avatar n tn I am not posting here to sing the praises of Concerta. Even though I have him on it, I hate it. What vitamin combinations work for ADHD? Are there other diet options other than what we already do? I am fully aware that there are lots of negative side effects to these meds. Just because we are not experiencing them now, doesn't mean we won't ever. So I will rephrase my original question of what things did you do with your ADHD child that worked?
Avatar m tn Do let your doctor know what is going on. Finding the right dosage is many times a trial and error thing as all people are different. And yes, there are other meds out there that may work better, but all that starts with a trip to the doctor. Give it another shot and then if things still aren't working "tschock" has some very good advice. You might also want to read a new book by a UC Berkley honors student with severe ADHD about growing up with ADHD.
Avatar n tn While some physicians diagnosis on the basis of a quick interview, and some use symptom checklists, the most responsible way to determine if a child has ADHD is to refer him for psychological or neuropsychological assessment. ADHD is frequently diagnosed by the presence of symptoms, yet it is important to note that symptoms such as impulsivity or forgetfulness can also be caused by anxiety, depression, or other factors.
Avatar m tn Opps, I was wrong. concerta is a stim drug. Here is better info: classes of medication are available for treating ADHD: * Stimulant medications, such as dextroamphetamine-based drugs (Adderall, Vyvanese) and methylphenidate-based drugs (Concerta, Daytrana, Ritalin). They are also available as generics. * Nonstimulant medication, such as the antidepressant bupropion (Wellbutrin and generic) or atomoxetine (Strattera), which is not available as a generic.
