Avatar f tn All I know is that the medication Rozerem which adjusts the sleep cycle in the exact same manner as melatonin is a safe and effective sleep aide but I don't know if its prescribed for children. Its complex with medications for children as the dosages and responses are very different than adults. All of the medications you mentioned are used for ADD and work but they are all activating as they are stimulants so its complex as regards sleep.
Avatar n tn He is not a case of "child outlashing". Except for the hyperactivity he was an otherwise well behaved child. As I stated before... he did not throw tanturms, was very respectful to adults and children, played well with others, etc... He is not a zombie! While on the meds, he still plays with others and participates in class. He even plays baseball after school and takes art lessons. When he was not on the medication he was chewing on stuff all the time....
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
Avatar n tn I watched a Lifetime segment about a new device, called the Quotient ADHD System, which can objectively test for ADHD by measuring motion and attention parameters in children and adults. Has anyone heard of this device? Here is a link to the video http://bit.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Concerta 27.5 mgCR which is like adderall for ADHD. My doctor also prescribed Phenteramine 37.5 mg for weight loss. I take both together in the morning. I do go to him every month and have a check up so he can check my blood pressure...it is always low anyways. But he does keep a close eye on me. Also, if I have something stressfull happen in my life, I drop the phenterimine for a couple of days to prevent an anxidy attack.
13415927 tn?1430701518 my psychiatrist was very dubious to put me on ADD medication as im an ex crystal meth addict. obvious reasons. ive been clean for 8 years now and have been on concerta for almost a year. but i am bipolar and have very bad anxiety. concerta works very well for my ADD but not for my anxiety, is there a better way to get the best of both worlds?
Avatar f tn t get a lot of adult posters with ADHD on here. They are here for awhile and then kinda of - lose interest, forget, move on, etc. Consequently we get a lot of people who need help, but unfortunately the ones who are successful, don't tend to hang around. Best Wishes!
Avatar n tn My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on the drug Concerta, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. On a routine cardiology check for the Concerta meds, the cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. The cardiologist took her off all of her meds for 10 days and did another EKG. She still had the PACs even off meds. Now my daughter is on atenolol 2 mL per day, Concerta, and cetirizine all together.
Avatar n tn But she was hypothriodism. More and More kids and adults are getting it. Lot of people with depression may have thyriod problems. Hope this helps.
4518471 tn?1355798857 ADHD has many co-existing disorders (Most of which were/are caused by the ADHD and its lack of treatment). I think its important to deal with the ADHD which most stimulant meds can do. But what is more important is to gain an understanding of ADHD and what or how it effects you. That will then enable you to more effectively deal with it. Don't know what kind of a doctor you are seeing, but if all he is doing is giving out meds and no advice - then looking for a doc.
Avatar f tn Then last year the ex took him in for the headaches and started pushing the ADHD and the doctor gave him a generic concerta and sumatriptin for the headaches. the concerta helped him tremendously with his work but the headaches havent gotten better.
Avatar f tn Methylphenidate may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Concerta should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Concerta?
565294 tn?1216433315 also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
Avatar f tn Yes, my current psychiatrist had me on the vyvanse and concerta. Concerta wakes me up so if I take it late I have trouble sleeping. However, a specialist in ADHD in young adults (18-25) diagnosed me. I can't remember exactly all my symptoms and if we tried vyvanse alone too or not. But I do remember that my memory and concentration along with my mood were worse on the lower concerta and vyvanse combo than it was on a higher dose of concerta.
5757880 tn?1395578022 So I am a little confused. Was your son diagnosed with Asperger's? If so, I question the doctor's use of ADHD meds because this maybe aggravating the Asperger's which is causing him to lash out. People with Asperger's need stability and routine and counseling to help work through their social disconnect. I say this because I have a son with Asperger's and a son with ADHD so I am familiar with the signs of both.
Avatar f tn 1) Why did the tics suddenly happen after being on Concerta for 6 months....did adding the Intuniv have something to do with? I know Intuniv should help with tics....very confused on this... 2) What is the probability that the tics will go away?...and if so...how long does it take? 3) The Dr. Mentioned starting Strattera again as a trial...I have read a lot of bad stuff about this med...what are the factual pros and cons? 4) Have read a little on Wellbutrin...
Avatar f tn mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..
Avatar f tn was diagnosed with adhd about 2 mos ago and my doctor put me on 36mgs of concerta it seems to help with the impulse control, but I am still having an issue with my mind being in a thousand different places. I also have a seven year old son who was also diagnosed with adhd about a week ago and because of his size he is also on 36mg of concerta and it is making him calmer at home, but when I talked to his teacher today she said that she is not seeing any improvement at all.
414608 tn?1221754268 I have 5 year old a child who has always had behavior problems since he was 2. He has been put out of several daycares and the behavior started out with hitting and biting other kids, then it went to not listening to adults and running and hiding from them. When he started Pre-K last year, he did fine for the 1st semester with no problems, then things went downhill from there. he would thow things in the classroom and have tantrums frequently.
Avatar m tn it as they grow older many learn to control it and cope. ADHD does not grow worse with age however. Other mental conditions, such as bipolarity, does. The fear you have may be anxirty based. Have you seen a therapist or any sort of psychological doctor? If you truly think you have issues I can't tell you haw good it is to finally know that there is a name for what you are experiencing and you are not to blame.
Avatar f tn My child is 8 years old and when he went into first grade he was diagnosed with ADHD the first year he went on Concerta i thought that he was doing well the highest dose we had him on was 36mg now about two month ago the doctor thought we should switch him to Vyvance to give him a longer affect we went from 30mg to 50 mg and then back to 30mg i have told the doctor my concernce about this medicine he has mood swings he does not seem to enjoy the thing that he usallaly does like going outside to
Avatar f tn Since Melatonin is the master hormone that controls sleep patterns, many parents find that it will induce sleep in their ADHD children and help to alleviate the insomnia and sleep disturbances that go along with ADHD and ADHD treatment. Melatonin has been shown to reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep, lengthen the time one stays asleep, and increase daytime alertness.
