Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws. However, since Combivent is unique, it may have gotten an exemption or extension.
If you are an asthma patient, the use of anticholenergics like ipatropium and Spiriva for therapy is increasing.
recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
Hi, I have just received a diagnosis of COPD with a lung function test of 60%. I am a smoker but I am only 34 years old. I am trying to quit. I have other chronic conditions such as back and neck pain, basal cell carcinoma, and mental illness. My question stems from when I had sepsis 2 years ago, I almost died from the infection. Is it possible for sepsis to cause lung damage? I also have just recently had bronchitus again and that took about five weeks to get over.
My questions are, How serious is this side effect, Should I continue using the Spiriva, Continue the Spiriva but stop the Symbicort, or Drop both and just take Combivent which I currently use as my emergency inhaler? Are there other alternative that I and my doc should consider.
I do understand as well, about your fears and deep concern about the moderate emphysema. In Oct. 07 I was diagnosed with COPD...Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. I was in the moderate stage of this lung disease. Moderate emphysema is COPD. Did your doctor just tell you that you had the emphysema? Or did the doctor run tests to prove the diagnosis of COPD? Whether this doctor just told you that you had the emphysema or if the doctor ran tests, makes all the difference in the world.
I have severe COPD. Is there a ereconstructive lung surgery that will greatly improve my breathing? I really need help so maybe I can actually go to the grocery store and/or pick up my grandchild, etc.
I have COPD ---had Lung Volume reduction in 1996 . LAtely the desease seems to be coming back but I keep asking Doc about Phlegm stuck in my throat ( thought maybe a trip to ear nose throat man may help? ) making it hard to breathe . I'm interested in knowing if this Medral Dose Pak would help ?? Is it Steroid? Right now I'm taking 20 mg of prednisone to help with breathing .
zone so she prescribed combivent 4 times a day and ventalin Inhaler for sudden attacks as she suspects COPD. I will be doing lab tests and other test next week. Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep.
COPD Fev 45-50% , have been on Flovent,/Spiriva/ Proair 10 years and am sensitive to medications. I dont smoke.
Have had increasingly reactive airways for 3 years, had first Dxed exacerbation last fall triggered by woodsmoke. No congestion and did not take antibiotics. Pulmo said airways 'sounded just like asthma' but do not have that Dx. Airways felt raspy, swollen, inflamed. Have slowly recovered on a higher dose of Flovent.
I was diagnosed with copd and low oxygenation level when walking and sleeping . I function well and do all the things I usually have done. I have occassional shortness of breath climbing stairs, hills, etc. I have started using combivent inhaler. What else should I be doing, if anything?
I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
I was using something called Combivent which made me cough every time I sprayed. My pulmonologist asked if I were using a "spacer" attached to the inhaler. Of course, neither she nor the pharmacy had offered one to me. Instead, I switched to QVAR which is much more effective and lasts longer than 4 or 6 hours. The down side is that QVAR is a steroid; however, I have yet to notice any negative side effects after about 3 years of use.
Does anyone know if an inhaler ( I use combivent) can aggravte PACS and PVCS? I had breakfast this morning and then used my inhalers and my heart started doing some weird pvcs and pacs anyone else ever have this happen?
Not sure if that is correct, but I had 1 puff (not the full dose of 3 puffs) of Combivent about 4 1/2 or 5 hours before the test. Would that make the numbers completely unreliable? Seems like it wouldn't have that much affect, but I'm hoping someone knows. Do I need to retake?
Your advice would be very much appreciated.
