Common Questions and Answers about Clonidine dosing in children

Avatar f tn Be careful not to think more is better because you will just drop your blood pressure and end up in the ER or worse. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication but is known to ease WD in very small dosages. Ok if prescribed by your doctor. I like patch better because you will not try to take more to make you feel better, Good luck..
1124967 tn?1283705847 Does anyone know the usually dosing amounts to help for severe wd or what the max allowable for clonidine? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
1335947 tn?1275685447 Its for high blood pressure, they have also used it for insomnia, and adhd in children, dosing for wd's are usually .4mgs .. I have tried it.. It will help with the chills, watery eyes, and runny nose.. It wont help with the cramps!!! Nor the lower back pain!!! It also gives you dry mouth. I could fall asleep for a lil bit, but would wake back up very uncomfortable!! I don't know how it works for others though. Read up on it!! When they gave it to me, I googled it!!!
1762497 tn?1313272219 In addition to lowering your blood pressure, in very simple terms, it helps minimize most opiate withdrawal symptoms (in the right dose). My doctor had me on a very specific and aggressive dosing schedule and it worked very well when I went off of hydrocodone. Additionally, I was instructed to check my blood pressure several times a day to make sure it did not drop too low. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Then this morning I talked to my current Dr to help me make it till this appt, to my surprise he told me just to take my clonidine .1mg which I have been taking for 3 times a day for 2 yrs already. and now I am taking another BP med on top of that which is Labetalol 50Mg a day. sorry for bitching just seems like the clonidine is not doing anything at all My legs, I sweat bad, Hot then Cold and I just F-ing hurtso bad...
Avatar f tn You may be having too much clonidine if your feeling dizzy and lightheaded. I had clonidine and valium to take together by my subutex doctor for detox. It worked wonders.
1128565 tn?1316721143 The normal dosing of clonidine are 0 .1mg as a standard beginning dose. Thats what I was given. Instruction were that I could take "up to three" at bedtime but to never exceed that amount. Partly due to see how an individual adjusts to the med once they start taking it as best I can remember from what my doctor said. I then asked if this would conflict with my regular BP (metoprolol 50mg) medicine I take once a day to which my doctor said it would not be a problem..
656243 tn?1231288052 It all makes sense but I think one thing we should be careful of here is when we use the term "doctor". Some people feel more comfortable referring to a psychiatrist as a doctor and a psychiatrist is of course a medical professional but some people don't have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable.
Avatar m tn I did take clonidine. It did help me. I do know that they use in in detox facilities, because unfortunately I have found myself in a few of them!!! But let me warn you.....do NOT over take them. Take no more than the prescription calls for. They can be very dangerous to your blood pressure as far as bottoming it out suddenly.
237152 tn?1206651036 I was on 10-15 7.5/325 hydros per day. Day 1 was rough, day 2 not great, today not great either, but tomorrow will start day 4. I'm just concerned about being in charge of 3 young children alone if it makes me really sleepy. My blood pressure was 122/84 at the Dr.'s office, so I am a little hesitant to lower it, but I will take it if it helps and doesn't cause any trouble. I only plan on a few days, tops. If at all. The cravings suck more than anything.
15695260 tn?1549593113 The research followed participants for 15 years and tested children when they were very young. They believe this will help delay or prevent diabetes in those predisposed to develop it. https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=170637 Would you test your kids to find out if they are at high risk of developing Type 1 Diabetes?
Avatar f tn I have been on methadone for 2 1/2 years and have been tapering down for about a year of that. I am on 4mg of methadone now. It got the hardest when I got to 12mg and since 6mg it has been even more difficult. I was prescribed neurotin which has def helped witb the withdrawal and also clonidine which helps when I can't sleep. I just don't want to be dependent on another drug when im done with the methadone. I was planning on dosing to 3mg then 2mg then 1mg being on each for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn But after 3 months I needed more per day because they stopped working at minimum dose. I decided to just start dosing down but that was hard also. I ended up throwing them out and just detoxing off them with clonidine. Took me a week too start feeling better. I am on week 3 and not taking anything. I crave to feel good again and pain free but I don't want to get hooked again. I have cesarean back pain. ***** mostly at work I feel tired still. No more narcotic for me. Withdraw s are awful.
Avatar f tn I have just started takeing care of my mother in law who is in stage 4 breast cancer and her dr gave her Morphine SO4 IR 15mg one tablet every 3 hours and Morphine SO4 ER 30ENDO one tablet every 12 hours and I am confused on how to give them to her, she says I can give them to her at the same time and I am worried about it causing an overdose and I am having a hard time reaching her dr for instruction on how to give it to her, do i give her one first and then wait a few hours to give the other

Avatar m tn I took Clonidine for several days during detox. It really did make a difference in helping with my withdrawl symptoms. Helped to keep me calmer and in my skin. I also had a few tranzene that I took ( I cut them in halves ) . These two things along with the Immodium and otc pain meds were a hugh help for me.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar f tn My doc sent it in to the pharmacy to help with the WDs I am now having. I am reluctant to dd in any other pills, but I need some relief. Any experience with this drug? Side effects? Does it actually do anything? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have info on Clonidine? My daughter is in Medical detox and they are giving her this during her detox. I'm just wondering if it is another addictive drug or if it is just an aid in the detoxification. I would assume they wouln't give her something addictive but you never know.
Avatar f tn Way to go day ten!!! Clonidine does help so much during detoxing. I am glad you got in to your doctor quickly. I am happy to hear your not crying as much. Your on the downside of this now. In a few days this will all be over. Have a beautiful Sunday.........
Avatar f tn I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?
