Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your response. May I also ask what length of time would I take the Biaxin? And is there any home treatment, Like garlic pills etc. that would help augment healing? ( since Biaxin is not considered the best treatment.) Although I'm stuck with that. And frankly, I was on the Clindamycin for weeks and that didn't get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
Avatar n tn s about time for me to have dental work done. Even if my PFO is small, do I still need antibiotics to prevent a possible bacterial infection? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Because I have an artificial joint I take 600mg of Clindamycin Prior to dental work. I han root canal done on a tooth under a permanent bridge a year ago by a General Dentist. One hour start to finish. It was infected, but I was never given any additional antibiotics. Since that time had an ongoing foul taste and odor when I used Water Flosser daily. The adjacent tooth became infected and also required a root canal. This time done by an Endadontist.
Avatar f tn To prevent bacterial endocarditis or joint infection, the dose is 600 milligrams (4 tablets of 150 milligrams each). It should be taken 30 to 60 minutes before a dental treatment likely to cause bleeding. Patients generally tolerate the one-dose regimen well. For oral infections or abscesses, the dose is 150 milligrams to 300 milligrams every 6 to 8 hours. It should be taken for at least 5 to 7 days. I am curious you say you have had cirrhosis of the liver since you were born?
Avatar m tn Usually a course of clindamycin or Amoxillicin is prescribed for an oral infection but Cipro should work fine.

Avatar n tn I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
12182312 tn?1427683956 American Heart Association no longer recommends endocarditis antibiotic prophylaxis during dental procedures for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. However, some cardiologists still recommended it especially if you have Left Ventricular Outflow Tract obstruction. You may wish to discuss this with your cardiologist.
Avatar n tn The antibiotic regimen used for prophylaxis prior to dental procedures is usually just a one time dose.

Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Avatar m tn hi and welcome.....sorry to hear abt your kitties troubles..clindamycin drops are a very good choice for dental infections...however I am concerned you've not seen improvement in 2 weeks...they are not recommended for use for more than 14 days!!! I will give you a link to this info... I think your kitty really needs to see a Vet specialist...is there a teaching Vet hospital nearby? they would have a variety of specialist to look more thoroughly into whats going on.....
Avatar f tn recommendationId=257 For infective endocarditis prophylaxis, current guidelines support premedication for only a relatively small subset of patients: history of prosthetic heart valve or past valve repair with prosthetic materials; prior infective endocarditis; unrepaired cyanotic congenital heart disease, including palliative shunts and conduits; repaired congenital heart defect with residual shunts or valvular regurgitation at the site of or adjacent to the site of a prosthetic patch or a pro
Avatar n tn The pain is in the gum around the tooth all the way into my jaw. I have been taking clindamycin four days now. I cannot feel an absess. Could this just be a tooth infection?
Avatar n tn what are some of the common dental implant problems? This discussion is related to dental implant and systemic disease.
Avatar m tn Yes, clindamycin is good for bacterial infections which is what you have and also helps with acne/pimples.
Avatar f tn I figured I would keep that medicine and take only if it flared back up while I was waiting for dental insurance to kick in at some point. Well, still looking for a job and now it's starting back up. I'm so afraid to take it because of the fear of how long it will be before I find a job. Even if I find a job I will try to at least apply for Care Credit to help pay for the treatments even if I don't necessarily have dental insurance to cover it yet at that point.
Avatar m tn Is that sufficient time in-between antibiotic courses for the amoxicillin to be effective again for dental prophylaxis? If not, what do you suggest as a good time to refrain from these antibiotics if such a situation arises again before a scheduled dental procedure? I can easily re-reschedule if you feel I should wait even longer. I tolerate amoxicilin very well so I'd like to continue using it before my bi-annual dental trips... Thanks!
Avatar m tn Hi, Last year I went to India for holiday. While I was there, I went to a dentist for cleaning my teeth. They cleaned my teeth by using the necessary dental equipment perfectly. But when they were doing it some bleeding also happened in my mouth. Everything went fine till they finished the work. After I leave chair to pay the fees, they put another patient in the chair and I felt like they are using the same equipments and other utensils for the next person. I am pretty sure about it.
1399266 tn?1280637104 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
Avatar f tn I have read that clindamycin is a commom drug prescribed to ppl before dental work to prevent endocarditis in those with heart problems, so why would they prescribe it to someone with heart problems if it is bad?? I dont take anything for my pvcs nor are they very bad. Doctor thinks they are just stress, but considering I have had them for a year and a half, Im not so sure. This being said, should I still be concerned about taking the medicine?
