503418 tn?1231098736 Since 1955, the AHA has made recommendations for prevention of infective endocarditis with antimicrobial prophylaxis before specific dental, gastrointestinal (GI), and genitourinary (GU) procedures in patients at risk for its development. However, many authorities and societies, as well as the conclusions of published studies, have questioned the efficacy of antimicrobial prophylaxis in most situations.
Avatar n tn I have two failed implants due to infection which did not respond to Clindamycin. I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill. My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections???? Thank you.

Avatar m tn Because I have an artificial joint I take 600mg of Clindamycin Prior to dental work. I han root canal done on a tooth under a permanent bridge a year ago by a General Dentist. One hour start to finish. It was infected, but I was never given any additional antibiotics. Since that time had an ongoing foul taste and odor when I used Water Flosser daily. The adjacent tooth became infected and also required a root canal. This time done by an Endadontist.
Avatar m tn Because of a complicated dental issue, I've been on multiple antibiotics in the last few months (long story): 1. May 10: Penicillin VK 500mg tab (6 days) and Metronidazole 250mg tab (7 days) 4x per day for both 2. Jun 6: Amoxicillin 500mg; 4 tablets immediately then 1 pill 3x per day (2 weeks) 3. Jun 21: Augmentin 875mg + 125mg additives, 2x per day (3 weeks) 4. Sep 16: Clindamycin 300 mg, 3x per day (16 days) I am concerned by the number and duration of these antibiotics courses.

Avatar m tn I am a dentist who recently was advised by my RDH staff that a 6 month period always exists between a heart attack and the patient's prophylaxis. This was taught in their school. Until now, for 31 years, I have relied on the advisement, case by case, of the patient's MD and also the evaluation that we make of the patient's health and periodontal condition prior to the appointment. Sometimes we wait a few months, sometimes we have seen a patient only weeks after an event.
Avatar n tn The pain is in the gum around the tooth all the way into my jaw. I have been taking clindamycin four days now. I cannot feel an absess. Could this just be a tooth infection?

Avatar m tn Two weeks ago I went to the barber and he shaved the back of my head with a clipper, then used a blade near the hairline on the back of my neck. Most of the time, after each visit I get a mild breakout of small pimples that go away in a few days. There was one located on the left side right at the line where the hair ends. it rubbed against my shirt and/or coat collar and became infected (after I picked at it).
Avatar f tn Meanwhile I applied for the Maryland exchange program and dental services do not cover root canal treatment. Trying to see what I can do apply for Care Credit but not sure if I'll be eligible as I do not have a job at the moment. I feel a little pain radiating down my neck off and on and treat it with Tylenol. No facial swelling at least not yet. Went to one dentist and paid out of pocket who prescribed penicillin V 500mg. It took about a week and The Sensation went away.
Avatar m tn Is that sufficient time in-between antibiotic courses for the amoxicillin to be effective again for dental prophylaxis? If not, what do you suggest as a good time to refrain from these antibiotics if such a situation arises again before a scheduled dental procedure? I can easily re-reschedule if you feel I should wait even longer. I tolerate amoxicilin very well so I'd like to continue using it before my bi-annual dental trips... Thanks!
1726450 tn?1316282511 I have an abscess tooth. Badly infected. Tried Penicillin VK, infection stayed. Trying Clindamycin- not helping to well so far after 3 days. Doctors office hard to get a hold of and dentist is out of ideas. I will ask my Dr office tomorrow- but need to throw this question out: Question: Who had antibiotics for dental infection during treatment and what antibiotic worked for you?
Avatar m tn While I was there, I went to a dentist for cleaning my teeth. They cleaned my teeth by using the necessary dental equipment perfectly. But when they were doing it some bleeding also happened in my mouth. Everything went fine till they finished the work. After I leave chair to pay the fees, they put another patient in the chair and I felt like they are using the same equipments and other utensils for the next person. I am pretty sure about it.
1399266 tn?1280637104 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
Avatar m tn I just had first root canal #14 through dental crown. Endodonist said there was pus -- infection. Avatar f tn I have read that clindamycin is a commom drug prescribed to ppl before dental work to prevent endocarditis in those with heart problems, so why would they prescribe it to someone with heart problems if it is bad?? I dont take anything for my pvcs nor are they very bad. Doctor thinks they are just stress, but considering I have had them for a year and a half, Im not so sure. This being said, should I still be concerned about taking the medicine?
