But here is my question. I ended up with a respiratory infection and the Doc gave me Clarithromycin, I have to take 2X 500mg a day for ten days. I started the medication the day of the sexual encounter.
Will Clarithromycin help clear up any of the STD's that I might have caught during the act?
There is not too much info on Clarithromycin and STD's out there. I know one thing it is sure working on my respiratory infection big time.

m now freaking out thinking that the original chlam/gonn test taken back in the summer may be invalid and that I could have given my wife chlamydia and that because I was on clarithromycin up until Tuesday of this week the tests which I took on the Wednesday (the next day) could show a negative result even though I did have chlamydia a week before. The doctor did suggest this scenario.

I have read lots of your post concerning biaxin and azithromycin and whether they cure syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU. I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems.

Can you explain why I would have a normal urine dip if the bacteria are living in my uretha? wouldn't there be white blood cells in my urine to indicate infection?

I went to my doctor and he swabbed me for a test for which he has not received the results from yet. I do not have a UTI and the doctor thought it may be unlikely that I could have developed chlamydia or gonorrhea with the antibiotics I was on. I am more concerned at this point about having passed it to my wife. What are the chances I did given I was on amoxicillin at the time? Thanks.
We’ve been married 10 years now and aside from the one oral sex incident neither of us has been with any other people sexually. I went to the doctor who dismissed an STD and gave clarithromycin. Two weeks after finishing the antibiotics, I still had this drip after urinating but less discomfort so I got tested for gonorrhea and Chlamydia again—both negative.

Hi, if your concerned about chlamydia get tested 7 days post exposure and Clarithromycin is an antibiotic so it may have a positive effect on chlamydia but you would need to talk to you doctor about this as depends on dosage.
The Chest (Journal) publication Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae in Asthma surely seems compelling where it comes to an association between this bacteria and asthmatic symptoms in at least some people. The test for gonorrhea and chlamydia was meaningless because you had received clarithromycin plus the penicillin or amoxicillin. If you had been infected, the antibiotics would have cured it.
Your wife's sore throat doesn't change my opinion or advice. You never were infected with anything.
m a 21 year old male, I had sex a few times with a girl who I just found out has chlamydia, however, I began heavy antibiotic treatment for the cure of Helicobacter pylori (amoxicillin 2g a day, clarithromycin, etc), and I only had sex with her once while taking this treatment, and had 4 days left. Would this treatment have cured my chlamydia if I caught it??? What are the chances I still have it??

I took 1500mg of Clarithromycin ER, and 1875mg of Amoxicillin that night. The following morning took another 1gm of the Clarithromycin ER & 1375mg of Amoxicillin. Still on Day 2 (only 24 post exposure) took 500mg Clarithromycin ER. The next day, today took Amoxicillin 500mg & Clarithromycin ER 500mg & Ceftiaxone 1gm IV (prefer not to explain but I am in healthcare).
Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline. So that does eliminate a lot of them. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.

I am male 34 y/o who had several encounters with 29 y/o female, all unprotected. Her status unknown. The last encounter was 8 months ago. My two questions, for arguments sake lets say I was exposed to gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU, and perhaps other common bacterial STD's. I've had no symptoms other then what I suspect are mental from me thinking about it (urge to urinate, itching, things like that) and visiting sites like this one.

He had some left over clarithromycin 500 mg about 10 days worth and he began taking that. I told him he should just get tested but he dosent have insurance currently and is unemployed. He said even if I have an std clarithromycin should clear it up its a very strong anti-bacterial antibiotic. Is this true?

The results came back normal bacterial flora of mouth. Should I do a specific throat swab test for chlamydia gonorrhea herpes and syphillis? Are there any names for such tests? I am waiting for the appointment with a ENT specialist.
The Gram stain helps to make a rapid diagnosis but it is not specific for chlamydia. Some patients with chlamydia have negative gram stains and only about 40% of persons with gram stains suggestive of chalmydial infection turn out to have chlamydial infection (the others have a variety of other things).

First I thought it was chlamydia and I started taking antibiotics for it. It stopped only to come back few days after I finished taking the antibiotics.. I then decided to go for checkup last week and the doctor said Staphylococcus SPP was found in my urine sample moderately after 24hrs incubation. I was then placed on injection. I've taken the injection twice but there seems to be no improvement.

I jus found out today I am pregnant. I'm concer with the health of the unborn baby. I am worry if the any possibility of births defects and any other problem related to the medications.
She said it was not possible oral swab to be done at that clinic (just genital). She decided to start a treatment (clarithromycin and ceftriaxone) for gonorrhea (without testing and diagnosis). I hope it works if I have oral gonorrhea. Sorry to bother you. I am just worried.
Resistance rates of 50% have been reported for ureaplasma and doxycycline. M hominis is resistant to erythromycin, azithromycin, and clarithromycin. Levofloxacin, another common drug, also has been shown to have a high failure rate for M genitalium. This is why knowing which infection you have is very valuable in determining the correct treatment.
Also, being in Africa, I'd make sure you had a full battery of tests 3 months from now to look for all other STDs, especially HIV.
My mother (51 years) has been diagnosed with antral gastritis and also got a positive result for the presence of Helicobacter Pylori. She has been prescribed with Mox 250mg( Amoxycillin capsules), Maclar 250mg( Clarithromycin), omeprazole tabs. Will it be sufficient for the cure with regular dosage or please suggest any additional measure.
All three tests have come back negative for both chlamydia and gonorrhea. Yet, I still have an itching sensation that occurs randomly in spots in my urethra. I have been given medication before just in case the tests were wrong and I have had four different sets. One 1 dose pill to treat Clamydia (not sure of the name), then two pills to take for seven days (got this treatment twice), then levaquin for 10 days, then clarithromycin or something of the sort for a 14 day period.
