Citalopram for postnatal depression

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram for postnatal depression

celexa

Avatar f tn I suffered from postnatal depression for a year after I had my daughter and it still flares up now occasionally.
Avatar n tn Why was your mother prescribed this medication? It is prescribed for many reasons, high blood pressure, anxiety, cluster headaches, and tremors. It does have a break-in period, and low energy, and sleepiness are part of the break-in period, which can take up to 6 weeks. I have never heard of it being prescribed for depression, but rather anxiety. I think she needs to return to her doctor to re-evaluate this medication.
Avatar n tn I would recommend that you try to avoid being sleep-deprived in the future, if possible, and consult a doctor on treatment for postnatal depression. Depression can cause different types of sleep disturbances by dint of it affecting important neurotransmitters in your brain. Treatment of this will likely help stabilize your sleeping patterns.

Avatar n tn Hi there, my baby is 3 weeks old and my postnatal depression symptoms had returned(had it with my first child). So i started taking st johns wort whilst the symptoms were mild hoping it'd help me recover. (been taking it for 2 weeks) and my symptoms were worsening so i went to the doctor and she prescribes me antidepressents ( the same one's that i had with my first child, which i made a full recovery using). So i stopped taking st johns wort yesterday.

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm in Australia too :) They just ask those questions to screen you for postnatal depression. You are not obliged to disclose anything you don't want to and they wont check you or your partners criminal history however if you have been subjected to domestic violence in the past (or don't want him present at the hospital) you should let them know as they believe previous trauma can increase the likelihood of postnatal depression.
Avatar f tn Thank you for giving me good info and not judging me...most people are very judgie when it come to depression, they think you can just simply "get over it" like it's a stubbed toe where it'll hurt for a minute and then go away.
Avatar f tn Hi, I take this anti depressant and it's working well for me. I've been taking it for about 2 years now. I think it works well for my depression. I take a couple of pain meds now because my pain is kind of out of control. I was diagnosed with fibro 11 years ago. I also have arthritis and degen. disc disease, so my pain isn't controlled by the Celexa. As I said though, the depression is pretty well controlled by it. Hope this helps.

Avatar f tn Anyone else suffering from this? It's driving me crazy and I don't know what to do :/ Apparently I am at risk of suffering from postnatal depression when baby arrives too. I've been to my midwife and she referred me to this place and when I went today, they said they couldn't do anything for me, so now I am being referred to a different place. I'm thankful, but I feel like have no one to turn to in the meanwhile.
1110049 tn?1409402144 i was on citalopram 10mg for 9 days will i withdrawl if the doctor stopped me cold turkey and what will i encounter
Avatar n tn Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety. Regarding the effectiveness of the two medicines, some studies have suggested that Lexapro may be more effective than Celexa for depression treatment, while others have not found significant differences between these two medications. And what works well for one may not work as well for another.
Avatar f tn Have u googled the meds? I knw citalopram is for anxiety and depression. Risperidone is for mood disorder. My daughter takes them. Not sure bout the others. Google may help. Sorry couldnt be of more help. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The problem might be depression. It can give you that foggy light headed feeling. Can you say what med you took for your anxiety? Also, did you have blood work for any vitamin deficiencies? I know you said you had blood test done but did they specifically check for this? What about thyroid testing? I'm sorry to be asking so many questions but the more we know the better we can help you.
Avatar m tn So if depression AND anxiety are an issure for you, maybe Lexapro would be the ideal drug. This might be something you can talk about with your doctor. Better to take one pill, than many. Lexapro has some of the least side effects of the SSRI class anti-depressant drugs.(SSRI-Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor.) It can cause sexual difficulties, such as lack of interest and more difficulty achieving orgasm (sorry to be so blunt, forgive me) and it can cause some increased sweating.
Avatar n tn I have to interject, I was on Trazadone for 3 yrs, and it's done nothing for Depression. It's actually used most frequently for sleep disorders now like insomnia and mid sleep awakening. I've been on a dose that could stun a horse - and I was still and do still get depressed with that drug in my system. It's great for insomnia btw, because it's not a benzo and not as addicting, so withdrawals aren't as hard.
Avatar f tn I believe it's an SSRI and is good for depression, you will have to wait and see if it works for you and if it's the right medication.Give it 4 to 6 weeks to kick in.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Citalopram (antidepressent) for years now, 40mg daily. The depressive mood comes and goes! But I wonder if I stop taking it gradually will there be withdrawal symptoms? Is there dependency on this medicine? I was thinking for instance to decrease it 5mg every two weeks or a month.
