ve been suffering from severe anxiety and panic attacks mostly ever since trying an antidepressant, Citalopram, I had not had a panic attack since July of this year and I was put under dangerous situations in which I could have had a panic attack but didn't.
I know from experience the anxious state can last for months and panic attacks can happen daily. I went through a horrible period of anxiety and panic. I have since been treated with meds and therapy and I am much better! Hopefully, you feel better soon!

I started having severe anxiety attacks two month ago, though I have suffered with anxiety my whole life. I have been on Citalopram for four days now and the side effects seems to be increasing. I am on a small dose, one quarter of a 20 mg tablet. I am suppose to go up to one half of a 20 mg tab today but am afraid to. I am jittery, have headaches, am groggy but panic when I try to sleep, have heat flashes through my upper body, my eyes feels strange...the list goes on.
Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.
I was on that same med and i started getting alot of panic attacks! When you switch they have to weeen you off the citalopram slowley and then you are stuck a week with out taking anything! I went from citalopram to effexer and i was sooooo scared to switch also. I just told myself that i have to do this otherwise its only going to get worse and i was on the pills for 6 years! When you switch it is important to NOT read any of the side effects because you are going to freak yourself out!
I suffer from Panic Disorder and Generalised Anxiety and took them for panic attacks. They completely stopped the attacks (I only took one when I felt an attack coming on) and I was only on 2mg which I believe is the lowest dose.
Anyway, I saw a different GP to the one who prescribed me Diazepam and she said that I can't have anymore. I know they're notorious for being addictive, but surely if I'm just taking them when I need them, there can't be any real risk?
so after 2 years of citalopram (40mg/day for one year and 20mg/day for another), and feeling ok with my life i disappeared to stop taking it, i asked my psychiatrist and she said ok. soo september 2012 i stopped.so till december 2012, i was felling ok and then it stared i was feeling i bit depressed in the beginning, did not want to do thing, i was feeling tired most of the time.and as the time gone by i stared feeling worse and worse.
So in April I started with my first panic attack I fought it was a one off but I was wrong a few weeks later I had 3 panic attacks day after day I got put on a mild anti depressent I haven't had panic attacks since but now my breathing is bad I do have asthma but it has never affected me I have also being feeling depressed you could say but I'm not I'm always concertrating on my breathing Im always thinking of death and if I'm going to die someday I almost feel like death is out
I'm completely freaking out. I have General Anxiety Disorder and I don't think my medication is working. I've been on Citalopram (20mg) since March but my panic attacks are becoming more frequent, I'm sweating, trembling, my heart is beating super fast, I have really bad nausea, and I'm either sleeping too much or not at all. I'm terrified I'm going to fail my exams because I've been missing so many classes due to these symptoms. Help!
I was just diagnosed with anxiety issues and they put me on xanax for the panic attacks that I can't control and also Citalopram for the daily use to keep me mello. They say I won't feel the full effect for a couple of weeks but I can feel like it's doing something because I don't have any attacks until about an half hour before I need to take my pill.

i have been on citalopram for two years and put on 50lb, which really depresses me since my eating and exercise regime has never changed. looking on the net i discovered wellburtrin, so i will ask my gp if i can swap over to this. i just want to know would i stop taking citalopram and start taking wellburtrin, or would i cut the dosage of citalopram down and take the new wellbutrin with it.
it may take the edge off the panic attacks, what dose were you on before? i was on Citalopram for only a week, it gave me side effects, but i was only on 10mg, funny thing is my anxiety started to go and i felt better mentally but i then developed side effects to it that were too much.... what a kick in the f***y eh.... Maybe the dose you were on before wasn't enough for your body. If you go back onto it maybe the dose could be increased to suit you more.
The hardes thing is I am having complete panic attacks when I sleep. Wake up at least 4 times a night having change my gown and sheets. No sleep in 6 months wears you down. Trying herbal supplements but no help. Do NOT want go back on anti depressants. Tired of feeling drugged but my anxiety is unbearable especially not being able sleep. Any advice would be appreciated. Doctors all give different advice.
