Avatar f tn Was thinking of alternating my saffron with turmeric but research shows citalopram and turmeric was studied and patients had bad longterm reactions.
Avatar f tn m on so many anti depressants and anti anxiety medications, including rispedal, neurontin, clonodine, citalopram, klonopin, topamax, trazadone, and Wellbutrin. I KNOW that this is a ton of medication, but I suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks. I've had it ever since I was 21 and now I'm 43. I was wondering if I could try introducing natural herbs into the mix slowly, like valerium or camomile?
648439 tn?1225058862 Is it a process of elimination I have to go through. At the moment I am depressed and anxious, starting on Citalopram - if this is not the right AD for me, or if it is really my thyroid, if if I really need an anti anxiety as well. It seems like it could be along drawn out process but as I am not a medical expert, how do I best manage to ensure I am getting the best care and resolving issues in the shortest possible time?
Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn Medhelp please can some one help I suffer with posttraumatic stress dissorder I am suffering with bad anxiety , i have just been taken off diazapam for the anxiety and things have gotten a lot worse.I was on Prozac and Citalopram for anxiety and depression which i had to be taken off due to allergic reactions.
Avatar m tn t just target one system (valerian and kava mainly target GABA, as benzos do but with milder action and no addiction or withdrawal reported). An overall approach would combine relaxants with adrenal support with perhaps amino acids that affect serotonin. Again as to "most powerful," most would say California poppy is stronger than valerian, but makes people even drowsier, and opium, which is an herb after all, is even stronger still.
Avatar m tn I don't think cj and I mean to be following each other around the forum, but sometimes we each feel strongly about a question and want to add our two cents. What cj told you regarding discussing adding ANY herbal supplement to a prescription drug with your doctor, I can't agree with more. In the past, we have all assumed that if something is "natural" it can't hurt us.
Avatar f tn if it does not have a pungent odor then it is not any good..valerian root has a strong odor...good luck with ur journey and valerian root kicks in my books..no medcine head in the am like melatonin....altho many like melatonin..good luck to u!
Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds
Avatar m tn Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.
Avatar f tn ll alternate between the valerian and the Klonopin, and only on as as needed basis. I am trying to keep my prozac at 40 ml, as more than that does keep me awake at night. I've nearly reached menopause, so maybe my good sleep of the long-ago past will some day return! Sorry this is so lengthy, Dr. Rajput!
1961084 tn?1325279027 I have used Valerian root for anxiety and to help me sleep and I think it works quite well!
Avatar n tn I've had good results with valerian and L-theanine. But I'd be careful when combining with prescription drugs. And always choose quality herbs. There is a difference between brands. Do your research.
Avatar n tn I have genralized anxiety disorder and my doctor has upped my prozac from 20 mg daily to 30 mg daily and I also take xanax, now my doctors feels that I should not have to take the xanax any longer, ( I don't take it every day at bottle of 30 pills lastes me close to 3 months if not longer). Is valerian root safe to take with the prozac?
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.
Avatar m tn my psychiatrist gave me citalopram, after taking citalopram i started felling better, and after couple months i was 99.9% cured. depression had gone, i had high self esteem again feel confident for my self i could do anything.no more panic attacks, i realized that nothing is wrong with my heart and no more agoraphobia.i start doing things again in my life, i was not sitting all day in my room and thinking about it.all those bad thoughts had been disappeared.

Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar n tn I experienced the same thing. I gained about 30 lbs on citalopram within 18 months.I work out and eat healthy. I knew something was wrong. Well I saw a new doctor and he is weaning me off citalopram (1/2 a pill a day). He thinks it made me gain weight. I kmow take wellbutrin (twice a day). I hope this helps me lose the weight. How are you???
Avatar f tn The normal combination would be something like passionflower and hops or passionflower and valerian or kava if you have no liver problems, adaptogens to deal with the adrenals, and amino acids to affect the neurotransmitters that are thought to regulate mood. A good book to get started with is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA.
