Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram and periods

Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn This question is regarding a coworker who had unprotected sex 8 weeks ago, He has been on Celexa (Citalopram) for about 5 years taking the medication only for periods of time (periods of 7-8 months every year) whenever he feels he needs it. Reading about the side effects of citalopram he says Citalopram depletes the immune system of glutathione as other SSRIs medications do.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Why do I go through periods of severe anxiety and depression? Normally I always have an underlying hint of anxiety but sometimes I will go though a period of 1-2 weeks when it is much worse. I find myself very restless and wondering what am I going to do next. I feel trapped in my life and that I have nothing to look forward to and I cry a lot. It's a very crappy feeling.
Avatar n tn Are you still taking citalopram? I suggest that you discuss your concerns with the physician who prescribed citalopram and determine if an alternative would be indicated. Also, if you are still experiencing symptoms and an MRI of the cervical spine was not performed, it may be worthwhile performing to evaluate for other possibilities such as transverse myelitis. Additional testing, such as a spinal tap, may also be recommended.
Avatar f tn ve been getting really bad headaches and feeling so weak and tired. I went to my GP around May 2013 as the headaches and fatigue seemed to be getting a lot worse at this point. I was referred for an MRI scan, which came back as my pituitary gland being slightly enlarged, but they said this was normal for my age (25). I still complained of headaches and so I had another MRI with contrast this time, I got the result of this yesterday which suggests a 'possible microadenoma'.
Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn i take 800 mg of lithuim, 60mg of citalopram for my dipolar II disorder and 125mg of levothyroxine for my underactive thyrod i seem to have problems with my sex drive i never want it could it be the meds
Avatar m tn Hi Sorry to burst your bubble but you will suffer withdrawals mine took a few weeks to kick in I came off effexor. But I know my group that Citalopram is not easy to come off you would be better going back on it and weaning off slowly follow cita's withdrawal programme my support group they are on the web.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Let me get this straight. You have a psychiatrist who took you off an antidepressant in just one week? And isn't dealing with the withdrawal problem? The minimum taper should have been six weeks from my experience. You also should research Buspar. See if you think it actually works much of the time. And if your anxiety is related to the heart problem, the beta blocker should theoretically at least have solved that problem.
1189408 tn?1264604995 I've had an abnormally heavy period for a month now. At 3 weeks, I had bloodwork done as well as a pelvic and vaginal ultrasound. I was told that my ovaries aren't working (low progesterin??) and that the lining of my uterus was 9mm thick. The only plan my doctor has given me so far is to put me on bcp. My questions are, is 9mm to thick after a 3 week heavy period? (super plus tampon needing changed every 2-3 hours) and should I get a second opinion, or is taking bcp the best option?
Avatar m tn any words of wisdom would be greatly aprpreciated oh as for medication I have been on citalopram for the last 2 months but has not had an affect at stabalising my moods, and the pshychiatrist is at the moment deciding which medication would suit me the best.
Avatar m tn In appropriate neurochemical, functional, and behavioural non-clinical experiments, escitalopram shows greater efficacy and faster onset of action than comparable doses of citalopram. The lower efficacy of citalopram in these studies is apparently due to the inhibition of the effect of the S-enantiomer by the R-enantiomer, possibly via an allosteric interaction with the serotonin transporter.
Avatar m tn my psychiatrist gave me citalopram, after taking citalopram i started felling better, and after couple months i was 99.9% cured. depression had gone, i had high self esteem again feel confident for my self i could do anything.no more panic attacks, i realized that nothing is wrong with my heart and no more agoraphobia.i start doing things again in my life, i was not sitting all day in my room and thinking about it.all those bad thoughts had been disappeared.

Avatar m tn Hi , my partner has receantly had an incident were she collapsed at the side of the road , was attended to by paramedics , was tacicardic , breathing problems and involuntary muscle twitching , unconscious and no reaction to pain test , she was put into a anesthectic state , intubation, fluids and oxygen given and air lifted to hospital , we think this may have been contributed to by her medications as she was prescribed 40mg citalopram , 400mg tramadol , zopiclone and D3 supplement , it was als
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar n tn I experienced the same thing. I gained about 30 lbs on citalopram within 18 months.I work out and eat healthy. I knew something was wrong. Well I saw a new doctor and he is weaning me off citalopram (1/2 a pill a day). He thinks it made me gain weight. I kmow take wellbutrin (twice a day). I hope this helps me lose the weight. How are you???
Avatar m tn I doubt that the Citalopram is even working for you after 3 years. Muscle twitches are not a side effect of this medication, so you should consult with your doctor regarding this new symptom. You also want to wean off the Citalopram via your doctor's instructions. I'm happy to hear that therapy is helping you and wish you continued success with it.
Avatar n tn I take atenolol 100mg daily , and also citalopram ( an SSRI) 10mg daily, no problems whatsoever. Hope you feel better soon. I'm bias with citalopram because of all SSRI it is usually less likely to interact with other drugs and also has the least side effects profile, I feel like a new person since being on it.
Avatar m tn I was just diagnosed with anxiety issues and they put me on xanax for the panic attacks that I can't control and also Citalopram for the daily use to keep me mello. They say I won't feel the full effect for a couple of weeks but I can feel like it's doing something because I don't have any attacks until about an half hour before I need to take my pill. So anyway I hope this helps, good luck.
Avatar f tn Hey I'm 20 and have been on citalopram for a year and a half, I have decided to come off it because of the fatigue it caused which is not good for student life generally, also the loss of interest in sex is not great either. I think I do need to be on antidepressants at the moment. But citalopram wasn't for me. I realise all antidepressants have side effects but I was wondering if any missed out the 2 I mentioned above.
